Abstract
A novel π-electron rich fluoranthene embellished with a phenyl spacer and coupled with terpyridine (TS1) was developed through Diels-Alder reaction. Single crystal X-ray structure evidences the variations in dihedral angles between the fluoranthene and the phenyl unit responsible for development of non-coplanar interactions and stabilized by a wave-like molecular packing in the crystal lattice with weak π-π interaction of 4.125 Å. The peripheral terpyridine of TS1 endows an efficient binding with multiple metal ions by colorimetric and fluorometric methods. TS1 exhibits a ratiometric fluorescence response from sky blue to yellow colour upon the addition of Zn2+ ions with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.05 ppm. The other metal ions such as Cu2+, Co2+ and Fe2+ demonstrate fluorescence quenching behaviour with LODs of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.7 ppm, respectively. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) shows the variation in TS1 emission behaviour upon metal ions interaction and quantitatively discriminates the metal ion concentrations. TS1 conferred a visual colorimetric change from colourless to magenta, enabling naked-eye detection of Fe2+ and showing clear discrimination between Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions for the real-time water samples. Furthermore, we have investigated the effect of TS1 in Zebrafish larvae/embryos and cytotoxicity in human urinary tract transitional cell carcinoma cells (UM-UC-3).

Abstract
Herein, we report an efficient multicomponent reaction for the synthesis of trisubstituted thiazoles involving a one-pot C-C, C-N, and C-S bond-forming process from the readily available starting materials. The reaction of arylglyoxal, indole, and aryl thioamides in the acetic acid medium under sealed heating conditions provided 3-(2,4-diarylthiazol-5-yl)-1H-indoles (4) in good to excellent yields. Using a similar reaction strategy, the reaction of arylglyoxal, aryl thioamide, and 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone provided structurally interesting bis-thiazoles having dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone linker (9). All of the products were fully characterized by spectroscopic techniques. We also recorded single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) of compounds 4b and 9a for unambiguous structure determination. Indole-linked trisubstituted thiazoles (4) exhibit prominent fluorescence properties. The relative fluorescence quantum yields of all of the thiazole-linked indoles were measured in the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) medium with respect to quinine sulfate in 0.1 M H2SO4 as reference. The scope of this reaction was further explored by preparing novel polymers 11a and 11b using naphthalene/benzene-1,4-bis(carbothioamide) in multicomponent polymerization.

Abstract
A series of novel 1,3-thiazole derivatives (5a-i) with a modified phenothiazine moiety were synthesized and tested against cancer cell line MCF-7 for their cytotoxicity. Most of them (5a-i) were less cytotoxic or had no activity against MCF-7 cancer cell line. MATERIAL AND METHODS The IC50 value of compound (4) was 33.84 μM. The compounds (5a-i) were also evaluated for antimicrobial activities, but no significant activity was observed. The antioxidant activity was conducted for target compounds (5a-i). The IC50 value of compound (5b) was 0.151mM. RESULTS The total amount of energy, ACE (atomic contact energy), energy of receptor (PDB: 5G5J), and ligand interaction of structure (4) were found to be 22.448 Kcal.mol-1 , -247.68, and -91.91 Kcal.mol-1, respectively. The structure (4) is well binded with the receptor because the values of binding energy, steric energy, and the number of hydrogen bondings are -91.91, 22.448 kcal.mol-1, and 2, respectively. It shows that structure (4) has good cytotoxicity with MCF-7 in vitro. CONCLUSION The increasing of docking ability of structures (5a-i) with the receptor is presented in increasing order as (5f)>(5e)>(5g)>(5a)>(5b)>(5d)>(5c)>(5i)>(5h). The structure bearing substitution as thiosemicarbazone (4), nitrogen heterocyclic (5f), halogen (5e), and azide (5g) showed good cytotoxicity activity in vitro.

Abstract
2-(2'-Hydroxyphenyl) thiazole-4-carboxaldeyde (aldehyde 1) and hemiacetal 2 were selected to study the mechanism of excited-state intramolecular proton transfer and the detecting of Al3+ ion in methanol by using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) methods. Our theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental values. The intramolecular H-bond is enhanced in the first excited-state based on the analyses of structural parameters, frontier molecular orbitals and electronic spectra. The stronger intramolecular H-bond is more favorable for ESIPT process. In order to further demonstrate the proton transfer process, we constructed the potential energy curves of probe 1 and 2 in both ground- and excited-states, and concluded that proton transfer processes in probe 1 and 2 are apt to happen in the S1 state. In addition, the Mayer bond order, energy gap and absorption and fluorescence spectra were applied to interpret the process of detection of Al3+ ion.

Abstract
In this study, a facile water-soluble fluorescence sensor 2-((2-hydroxybenzylidene)-amino)-2-(hydroxymethyl)propane-1,3-diol (ST) was synthesized via one-step reaction, and its fluorescence sensing performance for Al3+ both in aqueous solution and on paper substrate was evaluated. The results showed that ST exhibited an specific fluorescence "turn-on" response to Al3+ over other cations in aqueous solution as well as on the test paper. The limit of detection was found to be 3.2×10-7M, which revealed that the obtained Schiff-base based fluorescence chemosensor ST possessed a great potential for the rapid, quantitative and qualitative detection of Al3+.

Abstract
A new, highly selective turn-on fluorescent chemosensor based on 2-(2'-tosylamidophenyl)thiazole (1) for the detection of zinc and phosphate ions in ethanol was synthesized and characterized. Sensor 1 showed a high selectivity for zinc compared to other cations and sequentially detected hydrogen pyrophosphate and hydrogen phosphate. The fluorescence mechanism can be explained by two different mechanisms: (i) the inhibition of excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) and (ii) chelation-induced enhanced fluorescence by binding with Zn(2+). The sequential detection of phosphate anions was achieved by the quenching and subsequent revival of ESIPT.

Abstract
N-Imidazolylpropyl dansylamide 1 was synthesized for the sensing of metal ions and found to be selective and sensitive toward Hg(2+) ions in a PBS-EtOH (1:4, pH=7.4) solution. The sensing ability of probe 1 was examined by UV-Vis, fluorescence, and (1)H NMR spectroscopy. The sensing of Hg(2+) exhibited a quenching of emission band at λmax=515 nm of probe 1, which was associated with quenching of green fluorescence emission under 365 nm illumination. Probe 1 showed a good association constant with Hg(2+) (Ka=6.48×10(4) M(-1)) with a stoichiometry of 1:1 in PBS-EtOH (1:4, pH=7.4) having the lowest detection limit of 1 μM for Hg(2+); on the other hand, probe 2, which has no imidazole moiety, was not able to detect any metal ion. In the case of probe 1, electrons on the imidazole nitrogen are available for electron transfer (ET), which was responsible for its green emission band that was quenched on addition of Hg(2+); this clearly indicates that these electrons were used for the formation of a coordinate bond with Hg(2+) and that ET was switched off.
