Nickel-Catalyzed Arylative Cyclizations of Alkyne- and Allene-Tethered Electrophiles using Arylboron Reagents

The use of arylboron reagents in metal‐catalyzed domino addition–cyclization reactions is a well‐established strategy for the preparation of diverse, highly functionalized carbo‐ and heterocyclic products. Although rhodium‐ and palladium‐based catalysts have been commonly used for these reactions, more recent work has demonstrated nickel catalysis is also highly effective, in many cases offering unique reactivity and access to products that might otherwise not be readily available. This review gives an overview of nickel‐catalyzed arylative cyclizations of alkyne‐ and allene‐tethered electrophiles using arylboron reagents. The scope of the reactions is discussed in detail, and general mechanistic concepts underpinning the processes are described.

Asymmetric Synthesis of 3-Methyleneindolines via Rhodium(I)-Catalyzed Alkynylative Cyclization of N-(o-Alkynylaryl)imines

The first asymmetric synthesis of 3-methyleneindolines from alkynyl imines has been developed via a rhodium-catalyzed tandem process: regioselective alkynylation of the internal alkynes and subsequent intramolecular addition to the imines. The reaction proceeded with unconventional chemoselectivity and provided 3-methyleneindolines with good yields (up to 82% yield) and high enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee). Moreover, this transformation also features mild reaction conditions, perfect atom economy, and a broad substrate scope.

The Attractiveness of the Ternary Rh-Pd-Pt Alloys for CO Oxidation Process

Ternary alloys of platinum group metals attract a growing interest due to their unique catalytic properties. The present research is aimed to synthesize a series of Rh-Pd-Pt alloys with varied ratios of metals using a single-source precursor approach. Rhodium and palladium are partly miscible metals, while each of these metals is unlimitedly miscible with platinum. Thermolysis of complex salts used as a precursor results in the formation of metastable systems. The 3D nanostructure alloys are being formed after the complete decomposition of the single-source precursor. High-resolution transmission electron microscopic studies have shown that the nanoalloys are composed of interconnected polycrystalline ligaments with a mean diameter of 50 nm. The single-phase composition is confirmed by an X-ray diffraction analysis. The ratio of metals plays an important role in determining the catalytic activity of alumina-supported alloys and their thermal stability. According to UV-vis spectroscopy data, the higher palladium portion corresponds to worse dispersion of initially prepared, fresh catalysts. Treatment of the catalysts under prompt thermal aging conditions (up to 800 °C) causes redispersion of palladium-rich alloyed nanoparticles, thus leading to improved catalytic activity and thermal stability.

Copper-catalyzed tandem cis-carbometallation/cyclization of imine-ynamides with arylboronic acids

An efficient copper-catalyzed tandem regioselective cis-carbometallation/cyclization of imine-ynamides with arylboronic acids has been developed. This method leads to a facile and practical synthesis of valuable 2,3-disubstituted indolines in moderate to excellent yields and features a broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance. Other significant features of this protocol include the use of readily available starting materials, high flexibility, simple procedure and mild reaction conditions.

A nickel-catalyzed anti-carbometallative cyclization of alkyne–azides with organoboronic acids: synthesis of 2,3-diarylquinolines

An anti-carbonickelative cyclization via reversible alkenylnickel E/Z isomerization of 2-azido phenyl propargyl alcohols with aryl boronic acids is achieved using Ni(acac)₂ as the catalyst to access 2,3-diaryl quinolines.
