Abstract
A classical, safe and efficient red-shift strategy contributing to NIR arylacetylene-containing rhodamines has been developed via the desulfitative Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction of thiopyronin for the first time, exhibiting a broad substrate scope with good yields. In addition, compound 3m shows great potential for application as a singlet oxygen probe, demonstrating the practicality of the method.

Abstract
The recent expansion of photoredox catalysis into chemical biology has underscored the importance of photochemistry, attracting the attention of many researchers. On the other hand, as conventional photoredox catalysts were developed for organic synthesis, there is a necessity to develop biocompatible photoredox catalysts. Here, we show a water-soluble and water-compatible near-infrared (NIR) photoredox catalyst, coerulein B (CB). CB is a water-soluble molecule with a slightly twisted molecular structure, and its anionic species (CB-) exhibits NIR absorption and emission. We demonstrated that CB works as a water-compatible photoredox catalyst in the coupling reaction of pyridine hydrochloride and aryldiazonium salt. These results indicate that CB is one of the promising candidates for photocatalysts used in biological reactions.

Abstract
V-shaped xanthene dyes capable of predicting absorption and emission wavelengths are described. These dyes were synthesized by bridging a xanthene ring and an aryl moiety of fluorescein through ether covalent bonds. These dyes showed longer absorption and emission wavelengths than those of the parent fluorescein. Furthermore, substituents introduced on the aryl moiety mainly affected the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy level of the molecule. Therefore, the Hammett substituent constants could be used to predict the absorption and emission wavelengths of the compound.

Abstract
In this work, new derivatives (substituted 9-methyl-9-arylxanthenes) of xanthene compounds (5a-l) of possible biological significance were synthesized by developing a new synthesis method. In order to obtain xanthene derivatives, the original alkene compounds to be used as the starting materials were synthesized in four steps using appropriate reactions. A cyclization reaction by intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation was carried out in order to synthesize the desired xanthene derivatives using the alkenes as starting compounds. The intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction was catalyzed by trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and provided some novel substituted 9-methyl-9-arylxanthenes with good yields at room temperature within 6-24 hours. As a result, an alkene compound was used for activation with TFA in the synthesis of xanthene through intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation for the first time.
