Abstract
We disclose the results of an investigation designed to generate insight regarding the differences in the electronic and steric attributes of C-F, C-Cl, and C-Br bonds. Mechanistic insight has been gleaned by analysis of variations in enantioselectivity, regarding the ability of electrostatic contact between a halomethyl moiety and a catalyst's ammonium group as opposed to factors lowering steric repulsion and/or dipole minimization. In the process, catalytic and enantioselective methods have been developed for transforming a wide range of trihalomethyl (halogen = Cl or Br), dihalomethyl, or monohalomethyl (halogen = F, Cl, or Br) ketones to the corresponding tertiary homoallylic alcohols. By exploiting electrostatic attraction between a halomethyl moiety and the catalyst's ammonium moiety and steric factors, high enantioselectivity was attained in many instances. Reactions can be performed with 0.5-5.0 mol % of an in situ generated boryl-ammonium catalyst, affording products in 42-99% yield and up to >99:1 enantiomeric ratio. Not only are there no existing protocols for accessing the great majority of the resulting products enantioselectively but also in some cases there are hardly any instances of a catalytic enantioselective addition of a carbon-based nucleophile (e.g., one enzyme-catalyzed aldol addition involving trichloromethyl ketones, and none with dichloromethyl, tribromomethyl, or dibromomethyl ketones). The approach is scalable and offers an expeditious route to the enantioselective synthesis of versatile and otherwise difficult to access aldehydes that bear an α-halo-substituted quaternary carbon stereogenic center as well as an assortment of 2,2-disubstituted epoxides that contain an easily modifiable alkene. Tertiary homoallylic alcohols containing a triazole and a halomethyl moiety, structural units relevant to drug development, may also be accessed efficiently with exceptional enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine(III) reagents are well known for the mild and highly selective oxidative chemical transformations, specifically in synthesis of a variety of heterocycles, in a facile and environmentally friendly manner. In past decades, triazole derivatives have gained much attention of the scientific community as some of the products containing triazole moiety contribute towards the development of effective chemotherapeutics. (Diacetoxyiodo)benzene, a hypervalent iodine(III) reagent has proven its significant role in synthesis of 1,2,4-triazoles, in particular, fused derivatives. This review highlights the (Diacetoxyiodo)benzene mediated developments made for the synthesis of fused 1,2,4-triazole derivatives till date. In addition, medicinal perspective of these heterocycles has also been summarized.

Abstract
(S)-4-Isopropyl-5,5-diphenyloxazolidin-2-one has been synthesized for the first time by the enantiospecific oxidative carbonylation of commercially available (S)-2-amino-3-methyl-1,1-diphenylbutan-1-ol. The cyclocarbonylation reaction was carried out at 100 °C in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) as the solvent for 15 h, under 20 atm of a 4:1 mixture of CO–air and in the presence of the catalytic system PdI2/KI (substrate:KI:PdI2 molar ratio = 100:10:1), to give the oxazolidinone derivative in 81% isolated yield.

Abstract
2-[6-(Morpholin-4-yl)pyridin-3-ylamino]acetohydrazide (4) was obtained starting from 6-morpholin-4-ylpyridin-3-amine (2) via the formation of ester (3) and then converted to the corresponding Schiff bases (5, 6) with the reaction with aromatic aldehydes. The carbothioamide (9), obtained from the reaction of hydrazide with phenylisothiocyanate, was converted to the corresponding 1,2,4-triazole (11) and 1,3,4-thiadiazole (12) derivatives by the treatment with NaOH or H2SO4, respectively. The cyclocondenzation of 9 with 4-chlorophenacyl bromide or ethyl bromoacetate produced the corresponding 1,3-thiazole (10) or 1,3-thiazolidine derivatives (13), respectively. Antimicrobial and antiurease activities of newly synthesized compounds were investigated. Some of them were found to be active on M. smegmatis, and they displayed activity toward C. albicans and S. cerevisiae in high concentration. Compound 10 proved to be the most potent showing an enzyme inhibition activity with an IC50 = 2.37 ± 0.19 μM.

Abstract
Some novel 4,5-disubstituted-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (3, 6, 8, 9) derivatives and or 3-(4-methylphenyl)[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3]benzoxazole (5) were synthesized from the reaction of various ester ethoxycarbonylhydrazones (1a-e) with several primary amines. The synthesis of 4-amino-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-[(5-mercapto-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)methyl]-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (13) was performed starting from 4-Amino-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (2) by four steps; then 13 was converted to the corresponding Schiff base (14) by using 4-methoxybenzaldehyde. Finally, two Mannich base derivatives of 14 were obtained by using morpholine or methyl piperazine as amine component. All newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities and some of which were found to possess good or moderate activities against the test microorganisms.
