Evaluating the use of chiral anthracene templates to access pyroglutamic acids

Continuous-flow retro-Diels-Alder reaction: an efficient method for the preparation of pyrimidinone derivatives

The syntheses of various pyrimidinones as potentially bioactive products by means of the highly controlled continuous-flow retro-Diels-Alder reaction of condensed pyrimidinone derivatives are presented. Noteworthy, the use of this approach allowed us to rapidly screen a selection of conditions and quickly confirm the viability of preparing the desired pyrimidinones in short reaction times. Yields typically higher than those published earlier using conventional batch or microwave processes were achieved.

Substituent Effects on Regioselectivity of the Diels-Alder Reactions: Reactions of 10-Allyl-1,8-dichloroanthracene with 2-Chloroacrylonitrile, 1-Cyanovinyl Acetate and Phenyl Vinyl Sulfone

Diels-Alder reaction of 10-allyl-1,8-dichloroanthracene (3) with 2-chloroacrylonitrile (4) and 1-cyanovinyl acetate (5) gives exclusively theorthoisomer while its reaction with phenyl vinyl sulfone (10) yields a mixture of two isomeric adducts with priority toorthoisomer. The reactions proceeded under microwave condition in xylene. Configurations of these isomers have been assigned with the help of NMR spectra. The results indicated that the steric effect is dominating toward the isomer regioselectivity in the Diels-Alder reaction of the present compounds.

Evaluating hydrogen bonding control in the diastereoselective Diels-Alder reactions of 9-(2-aminoethyl)-anthracene derivatives

Several 9-(2-aminoethyl)anthracene derivatives were prepared with different nitrogen substitutents including alkyl, acetamide, trifluoroacaeamide and t-butyl carbamate. The selectivity in Diels-Alder cyclodaddition reaction with N-methyl maleimide was evaluated through single crystal X-ray analysis of the products. Models for the change in selectivity with hydrogen bond acceptor are proposed, supported by DFT level calculations.
