Abstract
α-Ketoamides are privileged chemical entities featuring a carbonyl group bonded to an amide. Bearing two pronucleophilic and two proelectrophilic sites, this structural scaffold exhibits distinct chemical properties and unparalleled biological activity. Owing to its wide application in medicinal, agricultural, and synthetic chemistry, methods for assembling this distinct moiety are ever-growing in demand. With the increasing focus on green synthesis, traditional routes to α-ketoamides have faded in recent years giving rise to the development of photocatalytic, electrosynthetic, and microwave-assisted catalytic protocols. We hereby provide a comprehensive and critical summary of all the catalytic advancements witnessed in this field from 2016 to the present.

Abstract
By development of ProPhenol/Ti(IV) catalysts, a catalytic enantioselective hydroxylative dearomatization of naphthols is achieved by using TBHP as a simple oxidative reagent. The side coordinative chain equipped on the C1-position of β-naphthols plays an important role for initiating this asymmetric hydroxylative reaction, which might be a result of the proper cocoordination effects to the titanium center in the catalyst. A reasonable catalytic cycle is proposed, the catalytic system is applied to a reasonable range of this type of phenolic compound, and related concise transformations are carried out.

Abstract
Aliphatic esters are essential constituents of biologically active compounds and versatile chemical intermediates for the synthesis of drugs. However, their preparation from readily available olefins remains challenging. Here, we report a strategy to access aliphatic esters from olefins through a photocatalyzed alkoxycarbonylation reaction. Alkyloxalyl chlorides, generated in situ from the corresponding alcohols and oxalyl chloride, are engaged as alkoxycarbonyl radical fragments under photoredox catalysis. This transformation tolerates a broad scope of electron-rich and electron-deficient olefins and provides the corresponding β-chloro esters in good yields. Additionally, a formal β-selective alkene alkoxycarbonylation is developed. Moreover, a variety of oxindole-3-acetates and furoindolines are prepared in good to excellent yields. A more concise formal synthesis of (±)-physovenine is accomplished as well. With these strategies, a wide range of natural-product-derived olefins and alkyloxalyl chlorides are also successfully employed. Aliphatic esters are essential constituents of biologically active compounds but their preparation from readily available olefins remains challenging. Here the authors show a strategy to access aliphatic esters from olefins through a unique photocatalyzed alkoxycarbonylation reaction.

Abstract
The total synthesis of seven members of the lapidilectine and grandilodine family of alkaloids has been accomplished in racemic and enantiopure form without protection/deprotection of functional groups. The two key steps, an 8- endo-dig hydroarylation and a 6- exo-trig photoredox cyclization, were catalyzed using gold. A rationale for the formation of the cyclopropane ring of the lundurines is also provided.

Abstract
The intramolecular 1,5-H transfer reaction of the aryl radicals generated from unactivated aryl iodides by photocatalysis is described. The features of this transformation are operational simplicity, excellent yields, mild reaction conditions, and good functional group tolerance. With this approach, a more concise formal synthesis of (±)-coerulescine and (±)-physovenine is accomplished.

Abstract
A general and practical CAN-mediated oxidative radical α-coupling reaction of various imine surrogates with allylsilanes has been described. This multicomponent process affords β-allylated α-carbamido ethers as stable imine precursors in respectable yields under mild conditions.

Abstract
The first tertiary amine catalyzed enantioselective Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) reaction of isatins with acrylates has been demonstrated, allowing asymmetric synthesis of biologically significant 3-substituted-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles in good yields and with excellent enantioselectivities. The C6'-OH group of β-isocupreidine (β-ICD) is believed to facilitate the key proton transfer step in the MBH reaction, via an intramolecular proton relay process.

Abstract
A convergent method to access the fused indoline ring system present in a multitude of bioactive molecules has been developed. The strategy involves the condensation of hydrazines with latent aldehydes to ultimately deliver indoline-containing products by way of an interrupted Fischer indolization sequence. The method is convergent, mild, operationally simple, broad in scope, and can be used to access enantioenriched products. In addition, our approach is amenable to the synthesis of furoindoline and pyrrolidinoindoline natural products as demonstrated by the concise formal total syntheses of physovenine and debromoflustramine B. The strategy will likely enable the synthesis of more complex targets such as the communesin alkaloids.
