Abstract
A skeletal rearrangement of a series of 6,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-4-ols has been developed using SOCl2 in the presence of pyridine. An oxygen migration from C5 to C4 was observed when the C4 alcohols were treated with SOCl2/pyridine, giving a 2-chloro-3,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring-system via the chlorosulfite intermediate. Analogous allylic alcohols with endocyclic and exocyclic unsaturations underwent chlorination without rearrangement due to formation of allylic cations. The rearrangement was also demonstrated using Appel conditions, which gave similar results via the alkoxytriphenylphosphonium intermediate. Several reactions of the products were investigated to show the utility of the rearrangement.

Abstract
Modern organic chemistry requires easily obtainable chiral building blocks that
show high chemical versatility for their application in the synthesis of
enantiopure compounds. Biomass has been demonstrated to be a widely available
raw material that represents the only abundant source of renewable organic
carbon. Through the pyrolitic conversion of cellulose or cellulose-containing
materials it is possible to produce levoglucosenone, a highly functionalized
chiral structure. This compound has been innovatively used as a template for the
synthesis of key intermediates of biologically active products and for the
preparation of chiral auxiliaries, catalysts, and organocatalysts for their
application in asymmetric synthesis.

Abstract
The cycloaddition reactions of 9-substituted anthracenes and levoglucosenone were investigated under microwave irradiation and conventional heating conditions. Considering time, yields, and regioselectivity, microwave technology has proven to be an ideal tool to achieve this chemical transformation. [reaction: see text].

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A new chiral auxiliary derived from levoglucosenone is reported. The compound is obtained by a cycloaddition reaction with 9-methoxy methylanthracene followed by a diastereoselective reduction of the C-2 keto function. The auxiliary has been used as a chiral template in an asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction of the corresponding acrylic ester derivative with cyclopentadiene. The results showed excellent diastereomeric excess even at room temperature when the reaction was promoted by Et(2)AlCl as the Lewis acid.
