Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted immense attention as efficient heterogeneous catalysts over other solid catalysts, however, their chemical environment instability often limits their catalytic potential. Herein, utilizing a flexible unexplored tetra-acid ligand and employing the mixed ligand approach, a 3D interpenetrated robust framework is strategically developed, IITKGP-51 (IITKGP stands for Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur), which retained its crystallinity over a wide range of pH solution (4-12). Having ample open metal sites (OMSs), IITKGP-51 is explored as a heterogeneous catalyst in one-pot Hantzsch condensation reaction, with low catalyst loading for a broad range of substrates. The synthesis of drug molecules remains one of the most significant and emergent areas of organic and medicinal chemistry. Considering such practical utility, biologically important Nemadipine B and Nifedipine drug molecules (calcium channel protein inhibitor) are synthesized for the first time by using this catalyst and fully characterized via SC-XRD and other spectroscopic methods. This report inaugurates the usage of a MOF material as a catalyst for the synthesis of drug molecules.

Abstract
Trimesic acid-functionalized chitosan (Cs/ECH-TMA) material was prepared through a simple procedure by using inexpensive and commercially available chitosan (Cs), epichlorohydrin (ECH) linker and trimesic acid (TMA). The obtained bio-based Cs/ECH-TMA material was characterized using energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The Cs/ECH-TMA material was successfully used, as a multifunctional heterogeneous and sustainable catalyst, for efficient and expeditious synthesis of medicinally important polyhydroquinoline (PHQ) and polyhydroacridinedione (PHA) scaffolds through the Hantzsch condensation in a one-pot reaction. Indeed, the heterogeneous Cs/ECH-TMA material can be considered as a synergistic multifunctional organocatalyst due to the presence of a large number of acidic active sites in its structure as well as hydrophilicity. Both PHQs and PHAs were synthesized in the presence of biodegradable heterogeneous Cs/ECH-TMA catalytic system from their corresponding substrates in EtOH under reflux conditions and high to quantitative yields. The Cs/ECH-TMA catalyst is recyclable and can be reused at least four times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Abstract
In this work, D-(-)-α-phenylglycine (APG)-functionalized magnetic nanocatalyst (Fe3O4@SiO2@PTS-APG) was designed and successfully prepared in order to implement the principles of green chemistry for the synthesis of polyhydroquinoline (PHQ) and 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) derivatives under ultrasonic irradiation in EtOH. After preparing of the nanocatalyst, its structure was confirmed by different spectroscopic methods or techniques including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The performance of Fe3O4@SiO2@PTS-APG nanomaterial, as a heterogeneous catalyst for the Hantzsch condensation, was examined under ultrasonic irradiation and various conditions. The yield of products was controlled under various conditions to reach more than 84% in just 10 min, which indicates the high performance of the nanocatalyst along with the synergistic effect of ultrasonic irradiation. The structure of the products was identified by melting point as well as FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopic methods. The Fe3O4@SiO2@PTS-APG nanocatalyst is easily prepared from commercially available, lower toxic and thermally stable precursors through a cost-effective, highly efficient and environmentally friendly procedure. The advantages of this method include simplicity of the operation, reaction under mild conditions, the use of an environmentally benign irradiation source, obtaining pure products with high efficiency in short reaction times without using a tedious path, which all of them address important green chemistry principles. Finally, a reasonable mechanism is proposed for the preparation of polyhydroquinoline (PHQ) and 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) derivatives in the presence of Fe3O4@SiO2@PTS-APG bifunctional magnetic nanocatalyst.

In Melting Points We Trust: A Review on the Misguiding Characterization of Multicomponent Reactions Adducts and Intermediates. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27217552. Abstract
We discuss herein the problems associated with using melting points to characterize multicomponent reactions’ (MCRs) products and intermediates. Although surprising, it is not rare to find articles in which these MCRs final adducts (or their intermediates) are characterized solely by comparing melting points with those available from other reports. A brief survey among specialized articles highlights serious and obvious problems with this practice since, for instance, cases are found in which as many as 25 quite contrasting melting points have been attributed to the very same MCR adduct. Indeed, it seems logical to assume that the inherent non-confirmatory nature of melting points could be vastly misleading as a protocol for structural confirmation, but still many publications (also in the Q1 and Q2 quartiles) insist on using it. This procedure contradicts best practices in organic synthesis, and articles fraught with limitations and misleading conclusions have been published in the MCRs field. The drawbacks inherent to this practice are indeed serious and have misguided MCRs advances. We therefore suggest some precautions aimed at avoiding future confusions.

Abstract
In this study, we reported the ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3) as an efficient, cost-effective, and mild catalyst for the synthesis of substituted pyridines via a one-pot pseudo four-component reaction. Furthermore, we investigated Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) synthesis and oxidation of 1,4-DHPs to their corresponding pyridines. The present approach offers a rapid methodology for accessing various pyridines with broad functional group tolerance and good yields using NH4VO3 catalyst as a green catalyst.

Abstract
In the present study, twenty-two derivatives of dihydropyridine (DHP) have been synthesized using the Boric acid catalyst in solventless conditions. The synthesis was confirmed by FTIR analysis, 1HNMR, and 13CNMR analysis. The quantitative structure-activity relationship for all the synthesized derivatives was performed using an artificial neural network with correlation coefficient (R2) 0.8611, mean standard error 0.19, and Comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) with correlation coefficient (R2) 0.713, mean standard error 0.27. The molecular docking activity of synthesized compounds was tested using "AUTODOCK VINA" against "Acetohydroxyacid synthase protein receptors (PDB code 1YHZ)" acquired from the "RCSB Protein Data Bank". Docking experiments demonstrated favorable interaction among synthesized DHP derivatives and protein receptors with significant binding energy values. These synthesized derivatives have been screened for their pre-emergence herbicidal bioassay against weed species Echinochola crus galli, and the IC50 value were calculated and activity was compared with Butachlor, significant activity was exhibited by all the derivatives. All the synthesized compounds were also screened for their post emergence herbicidal activity against Echinochola crus galli, and the activity of DHPs were compared with penoxulum. All the synthesized compounds show good to moderate activity. Thus, it is concluded that substituted DHP derivatives may be developed as potential herbicides.

Abstract
The synthesis of ester-containing heterocyclic compounds via multicomponent
reaction is one of the preferable processes in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal
chemistry. Compounds containing ester linkage have a wide range of biological applications
in the pharmaceutical field. Therefore, many methods have been developed for the synthesis
of these types of derivatives. However, some of them are carried out in the presence of toxic
solvents and catalysts, with lower yields, longer reaction times, low selectivities, and byproducts.
Thus, the development of new synthetic methods for ester synthesis is required in
medicinal chemistry. As we know, multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are a powerful tool for
the one-pot ester synthesis, so in this article, we have reviewed the recent developments in
ester synthesis. This work covers a selected explanation of methods via multicomponent reactions
to explore the methodological development in ester synthesis.

Abstract
The advent of multicomponent reactions in the synthesis of heterocycles and their ever burgeoning applications in drug development, materials chemistry, and catalysis, have attracted a great deal of current scientific interest. In particular, the metal-free multicomponent synthesis of six membered N-heterocycles has undergone intensive research over the last two decades offering an environmentally benevolent means contrary to traditional metal catalysed reactions. To the best of our knowledge, there exists no exclusive review on the metal-free multicomponent synthesis of six membered N-heterocyles, and hence the present report highlights the progress on metal-free multicomponent reactions with their advantages and mechanistic insights to access monocyclic six-membered N-heterocycles including pyridine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, triazine and their hydrogenated derivatives. The literature is covered since 2000, and the contents offer not only striking methods for divergent synthesis of six-membered N-heterocycles but also put forward some new insights into the exploration of metal-free multicomponent chemistry.

Abstract
4H-Pyrans (4H-Pys) and 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) are important classes of heterocyclic scaffolds in medicinal chemistry. Herein, an indium(III)-catalyzed one-pot domino reaction for the synthesis of highly functionalized 4H-Pys, and a model of 1,4-DHP is reported. This alternative approach to the challenging Hantzsch 4-component reaction enables the synthesis of fused-tricyclic heterocycles, and the mechanistic studies underline the importance of an intercepted-Knoevenagel adduct to achieve higher chemoselectivity towards these types of unsymmetrical heterocycles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Novel bis(1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile) derivatives linked to aliphatic or aromatic cores via amide or ester-amide linkages were prepared and their structures were confirmed by several spectral tools. METHODS The synthesis of novel N,N'-(alkanediyl)bis(2-(2-(3,5-dicyano-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridin- 4-yl)phenoxy)acetamide) by acid-catalyzed condensation of the bis-aldehydes with four equivalents of 3-aminocrotononitrile was reported. RESULTS The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by different spectral tools. The molecular docking stimulation studies indicated that the prepared compounds bind to the active site of cellular inhibitor apoptotic protein (cIAP1-BIR3). MTT assay for the novel bis(1,4-dihydropyridines) was performed on two different human cell lines (A549 and HCT116). CONCLUSION Compound 5a showed higher cytotoxic activity against A549. Compound 5d showed moderate activity against HCT116. The rest of compounds indicated lower or no activity against both cell lines.

Amine-functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets (AFGONs): an efficient bifunctional catalyst for selective formation of 1,4-dihydropyridines, acridinediones and polyhydroquinolines. Abstract
We report here selective formation of functionalized 1,4-dihydropyridines (DHP), acridinediones and polyhydroquinolines in high yields using amine-functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets (AFGONs) as the bifunctional catalyst. The method overcomes the limitations of previous protocols affording a mixture of DHP and pyridine derivatives using graphene oxide as the catalyst. The mild reaction conditions are found compatible with a wide range of functional groups. It is presumed that a cooperative effect between the acidic and basic functionalities present in AFGONs may have exerted high catalytic efficiency as well as prevented further oxidation to pyridine derivatives. A plausible mechanism is proposed on the basis of some control experiments. The reactions can be scaled up conveniently, and the catalyst can be recycled for five consecutive runs without loss of its activity.

Abstract
A new biopolymer-based magnetic nanocomposite was prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images, inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) analysis, thermogravimetric/differential thermal (TG/DT) analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM) image analysis. Then, it was applied as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in two important three- and four-component one-pot organic condensation reactions for the synthesis of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridine and polyhydroquinoline derivatives in high yields under solvent-free condition at room temperature. The first design and development of a low-leaching bionanostructure, easy separation and reusability of the nanocatalyst, simple work-up procedure, mild, green and environmentally friendly conditions are some important features and advantages of the present work.

Abstract
This paper describes the synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridine compounds (DHPs) endowed with good muscle relaxant activity and stability to light. Six new condensed DHPs were synthesized by the microwave irradiation method. A long-chain ester moiety [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] and various substituents on the phenyl ring were demonstrated to affect the muscle relaxant activity occurring in isolated rabbit gastric fundus smooth muscle strips. Forced photodegradation conditions were applied to the molecules according to the ICH rules. The degradation profile of the drugs was monitored by spectrophotometry coupled with the multivariate curve resolution technique. Formation of the oxidized pyridine derivative was observed for all the studied DHPs, except for one compound, which showed very fast degradation and formation of a second photo-product. Pharmacological tests on the molecules showed a good muscle relaxing effect, with a mechanism similar to that of nifedipine, however, proving to be more stable to light.

Abstract
This review describes the formation of six-membered heterocyclic compounds and their fused analogues under microwave activation using modern organic transformations including cyclocondensation, cycloaddition, multicomponents and other modular reactions. The review is divided according to the main heterocycle types in order of increasing complexity, starting with heterocyclic systems containing one, two and three heteroatoms and their fused analogues. Recent microwave applications are reviewed, with special focus on the chemistry of bioactive compounds. Selected examples from the 2006 to 2015 literature are discussed.
