Abstract
The oxidative cyclodehydrogenation (often named the Scholl reaction) is still a powerful synthetic tool to construct even larger polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by multiple biaryl bond formations without the necessity of prior installation of reacting functional groups. Scholl-type reactions are usually very selective although the resulting products bear sometimes some surprises, such as the formation of five-membered instead of six-membered rings or the unexpected migration of aryl moieties. There are a few examples, where chlorinated byproducts were found when FeCl3 was used as reagent. To our knowledge, the direct functionalization of PAHs during Scholl-type cyclization by triflyloxylation has not been observed. Herein we describe the synthesis of functionalized PAHs by the formation of five-membered rings and a regioselective triflyloxylation in one step. The triflyloxylated PAHs can be used as reactants for further transformation to even larger contorted PAHs.

Abstract
Here we report a straightforward cross-coupling method for the synthesis of non-natural glycoamino acids from alkyne-bearing monosaccharides and p-iodophenylalanine. Pd/Au-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling is tolerant to both O- and S-glycosides without any epimerization. In addition, no racemization of the amino acid was observed allowing direct access to the homogeneous glyco-conjugate in a single step. Notably, this Pd/Au catalytic system presents enhanced catalytic activity than conventional Pd/Cu and Pd-only platforms, and it further enables the convergent synthesis of glycodipeptides.

Abstract
A new and efficient one-pot desilylation-gold-catalyzed cycloisomerization of alkynes containing a silyl-protected phenolic -OH and a free alcoholic -OH unit leads selectively to the formation of tetrahydrofuranobenzopyran ring system. This approach has been used for the regio- and stereoselective synthesis of xyloketal D, xyloketal G, and the related natural product alboatrin.

Abstract
Bimetallic catalysis refers to homogeneous processes in which either two transition metals (TM), or one TM and one Group 11 (G11) element (occasionally Hg also), cooperate in a synthetic process (often a C-C coupling) and their actions are connected by a transmetalation step. This is an emerging research area that differs from the isolated or tandem applications of the now classic processes (Stille, Negishi, Suzuki, Hiyama, Heck). Most of the reactions used so far combine Pd with a second metal, often Cu or Au, but syntheses involving very different TM couples (e.g., Cr/Ni in the catalyzed vinylation of aldehydes) have also been developed. Further development of the topic will soon demand a good knowledge of the mechanisms involved in bimetallic catalysis, but this knowledge is very limited for catalytic processes. However, there is much information available, dispersed in the literature, coming from basic research on exchange reactions occurring out of any catalytic cycle, in polynuclear complexes. These are essentially the same processes expected to operate in the heart of the catalytic process. This Review gathers together these two usually isolated topics in order to stimulate synergy between the bimetallic research coming from more basic organometallic studies and the more synthetic organic approaches to this chemistry.

Abstract
A Pd(II)-catalyzed homo-coupling of Au(I)-aryls is reported. The reaction is driven by a Pd(0)/Au(I) redox reaction that generates a gold mirror and Pd(II), and illustrates one of the challenges for developing dual catalytic Au-Pd systems.
