Abstract
A facile and user-friendly protocol for the synthesis of trifluoroethoxy/aryloxy cinnolines, cinnolinones and indazoles from o-alkynylaniline in good-to-excellent yields has been developed using a metal-free diazotization reagent (a combination of BF3·OEt2 and TBN). The methodology has been further extended to construct bis-cinnolinones and for the chemoselective synthesis of N-propargylated cinnolinones.

Abstract
Crinnolines can serve as unique and versatile class of heterocycles especially in fields related
to synthetic and pharmaceutical chemistry owing to their potent biological activities. They possess diversity
of pharmaceutical activities as anticancer, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic as well
as anti-hypertensive activities. Since the first synthesis of cinnoline by Richter (1883) numerous protocols
for their synthesis have been developed utilizing arenediazonium salts, aryl hydrazines and arylhydhydrazones
precursors. Recently metal catalyzed C-C and C-N bond formation reactions have
emerged as efficient tools for synthesis of cinnoline derivatives. This review aims to focus on the recent
synthetic routes used for the synthesis of cinnoline derivatives. An effort has been carried out to provide
an overview of practical methods for preparing cinnolines. Furthermore the reaction mechanisms have
been described in brief.

Abstract
Many existing irrigation, industrial and chemical storage sites are currently introducing hazardous anions into groundwater, making the monitoring of such sites a high priority. Detecting and quantifying anions in water samples typically requires complex instrumentation, adding cost and delaying analysis. Here we address these challenges by development of an optical molecular method to detect and discriminate a broad range of anionic contaminants with DNA-based fluorescent sensors. A library of 1296 tetrameric-length oligodeoxyfluorosides (ODFs) composed of metal ligand and fluorescence modulating monomers was constructed with a DNA synthesizer on PEG-polystyrene microbeads. These oligomers on beads were incubated with YIII or ZnII ions to provide affinity and responsiveness to anions. Seventeen anions were screened with the library under an epifluorescence microscope, ultimately yielding eight chemosensors that could discriminate 250 μM solutions of all 17 anions in buffered water using their patterns of response. This sensor set was able to identify two unknown anion samples from ten closely-responding anions and could also function quantitatively, determining unknown concentrations of anions such as cyanide (as low as 1 mM) and selenate (as low as 50 μM). Further studies with calibration curves established detection limits of selected anions including thiocyanate (detection limit ~300 μM) and arsenate (~800 μM). The results demonstrate DNA-like fluorescent chemosensors as versatile tools for optically analyzing environmentally hazardous anions in aqueous environments.

Abstract
Two closely related dual-channel chemodosimeters for nitrite in buffered aqueous acetonitrile were developed using [(pq)(2)IrCl](2) (1) and [(ppy)(2)IrCl](2) (2). In the UV-vis channel, the addition of nitrite caused visibly distinct color changes with both probes as a result of sizable absorption intensity enhancements. In the photoluminescence channel, the probes behaved oppositely upon the addition of nitrite. The emission was increased with 1, while it was quenched with 2. NMR and X-ray studies indicated that structurally very different η(1)-nitrito-N and η(2)-nitrito-O,O' complexes were formed. Linear relationships for the quantification were obtained in both channels, allowing one to analyze for NO(2)(-) in a range from 5 × 10(-5) to 2 × 10(-2) M.
