Abstract
Treatment of aryl-fused bicyclo[4.2.0]octanols with an oxidant such as phenyliodine diacetate (PIDA) or hypochlorous acid gave dihydrofuran-containing polycyclic aromatic compounds by selective β-cleavage of the cyclobutanol moiety. Mechanistic studies suggest that the oxygen atom of the hydrofuran ring is incorporated from the hydroxy group of the substrate via intramolecular addition. The oxidative transformation should serve as a new method to prepare functionalized polycyclic aromatic compounds.

Abstract
Ketones with remote fluorination are an important motif in the synthesis of bioactive molecules. Here we demonstrate that ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) is able to produce this functionality under incredibly mild conditions and short reaction times (30 min) while eliminating the need for precious metals in previous methods. Importantly, this method allows the efficient synthesis of a wide variety of γ-fluoroketones and is highly scalable. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest this reaction proceeds through a radical pathway.

Abstract
A two-step protocol is presented for the preparation of 5-(pyridin-2-ylamino)dihydrofuran-2(3H)-ones from 2-hydroxycyclobutanone and some 2-aminopyridines via a catalyst-free synthesis of 2,2-bis(pyridin-2-ylamino)cyclobutanols followed by Dess-Martin periodinane mediated ring expansion.

Abstract
The highly regio- and chemoselective oxidation of activated C-H bonds has been observed via copper-catalyzed reactions of oxaziridines. The oxidation proceeded with a variety of substrates, primarily comprising allylic and benzylic examples, as well as one example of an otherwise unactivated tertiary C-H bond. The mechanism of the reaction is proposed to involve single-electron transfer to the oxaziridines to generate a copper-bound radical anion, followed by hydrogen atom abstraction and collapse to products, with regeneration of the catalyst by a final single-electron transfer event. The involvement of allylic radical intermediates was supported by a radical-trapping experiment with TEMPO.

Abstract
A novel way to synthesise 2-aryl-4H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazin-4-ones has been developed by the cyclisation of Schiff bases with (diacetoxyiodo)benzene. The salient features of this new protocol which starts from an anthranilic acid and an aromatic aldehyde, are short reaction time, mild reaction conditions and good yields.
