Abstract
BACKGROUND Here we report a new selenium-based heterogeneous catalyst, which was prepared from the immobilization of diphenyl diselenide on amine-functionalized Santa Barbara Amorphous-15 (SBA-15). The catalyst characterization study has been confirmed by different analysis methods including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis. RESULTS The newly designed catalyst was successfully applied in the green dehydration reaction of oximes to corresponding nitriles in the presence of hydrogen peroxide/air. To demonstrate the role of the catalyst in this study, the model reaction was also carried out in the absence of the catalyst and a trace yield of the relevant product was achieved. CONCLUSION In this way, a series of nitrile derivatives were obtained with 72-96% yields, also, the catalyst could be separated easily and recycled for four consecutive runs with no obvious drop in catalytic activity.

Abstract:
The demand for natural product based drugs with less cost and efficient procedures has become a challenge to researchers. Benzalacetophenone is a natural product based species that is modified into numerous heterocyclic compounds including isoxazoline and isoxazole derivatives. The utility of isoxazoline and oxazole derivatives has been increased for the synthesis of the new and effective chemical entities to serve medicinal chemistry in the past few years. Isoxazoline and isoxazole are fascinating classes of heterocyclic compounds, which belong to N- and O-heterocycles, and are widely used as precursors for the development of drugs. This review highlights the recent work for the synthesis of mono and bis isoxazoline and isoxazole derivatives using stable benzalacetophenone and functionalization of isoxazoline and isoxazole, along with the prevailing biological properties.

Abstract
A simple and efficient synthetic route to the novel 3a,4-dihydro-3H,7H- and 4H,7H-pyrazolo[4′,3′:5,6]pyrano[4,3-c][1,2]oxazole ring systems from 3-(prop-2-en-1-yloxy)- or 3-(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde oximes has been developed by employing the intramolecular nitrile oxide cycloaddition (INOC) reaction as the key step. The configuration of intermediate aldoximes was unambiguously determined using NOESY experimental data and comparison of the magnitudes of 1JCH coupling constants of the iminyl moiety, which were greater by approximately 13 Hz for the predominant syn isomer. The structures of the obtained heterocyclic products were confirmed by detailed 1H, 13C and 15N NMR spectroscopic experiments and HRMS measurements.

Abstract
Selective synthesis of three different bioactive heterocycles; isoxazolines, 5-hydroxy-2-isoxazolines and isoxazoles from the same starting material using TEMPO (2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl) as a radical initiator is reported. Selectivity was achieved using different oxidants with TEMPO. The reaction goes through a 1,5-HAT (hydrogen atom transfer) process resulting in products with good yields. This strategy offers a straightforward route to three different heterocycles from oximes via radical-mediated C(sp3 )-H oxidation.

Abstract
Isoxazoline is a 5-membered heterocycle present in the active compounds of many commercial veterinary anti-ectoparasitic products. The molecular target of isoxazolines is the inhibition of GABA-gated chloride channels in insects. These facts have inspired the use of the isoxazoline scaffold in the design of novel insecticide compounds. The main strategies used for isoxazoline synthesis are either the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between a nitrile oxide and an alkene or the reaction between hydroxylamine and an α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound. This review highlights the utilization of isoxazoline as insecticide: its mode of action, its commercial preparations and its consideration in the design of novel insecticides. Similarity analyses were performed with 235 isoxazoline derivatives in three different cheminformatic approaches - chemical property correlations, similarity network and compound clustering. The cheminformatic methodologies are interesting tools to use in evaluating the similarity between commercial isoxazolines and to clarify the main features explored within their derivatives.

Abstract
Polar-terminated 3,5-diarylisoxazole liquid crystals (ILCs) were synthetized and characterized. ILCs are composed by rigid core 3,5-diarylisoxazol, alkyl chain and polar-terminated flexible spacer. Hydroxyl-, ketal- and 1,2-diol-terminated ILCs rendered smectic C and A mesophase, while bromine-terminated ILCs showed smectic A and B mesophase, for monosubstituted and linear ILCs. For branched alkyl chain monotropic SmA was detected and for disubstituted ILCs no mesophase was detected. Out-of-layer fluctuations (OLFs) are discussed based on X-ray diffraction date and textures. The OLFs are dependent on the bromine atom hardness, hydrogen bonding through collective actions and conformational effects at the interface between layers. Smectic translational order parameter (TOP) Σ was also obtained for orientated bromine- and hydroxyl-terminated ILCs and related it with OLFs. For 1,2-diol-terminated ILCs two SmC sublayers were founded, probably related to the intramolecular hydrogen bond favoring the 5-membered and 6-membered formation.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed [2 + 2 + 1] heteroannulation of alkenes with enynyl benziodoxolones and AgNO2 involving oxidative cleavage of the C≡C bond promoted by cooperative Zn(OTf)2, KOAc, and 4 Å MS for producing 3-aryl Δ2-isoxazolines is reported. Mechanistic studies indicate that AgNO2 serves as the N/O two-atom unit source, enabling the formation of three bonds through NO2 addition across the C≡C bond, NO-transfer, C≡C bond cleavage, and annulation cascades.

Abstract
A series of novel thiourea and amide liquid crystals containing 5-membered isoxazoline and isoxazole rings were synthetized and the liquid crystal properties studied. Thioureas were obtained using a condensation reaction of benzoyl chlorides, arylamines and ammonium thiocyanate. The amides, on the other hand, were the byproduct of a quantitative reaction which used potassium cyanate as the starting material. Thiourea and amide derivatives were predominantly SmA mesophase inductors. A nematic mesophase was observed only for thioureas and amides containing an isoxazole ring. Additionaly, the liquid crystal behavior was also dependent on the relative position of nitrogen and oxygen atoms on the 5-membered heterocycle.

Abstract
A series of structurally amphiphilic biscationic norbornanes have been synthesised as rigidified, low molecular weight peptidomimetics of cationic antimicrobial peptides. A variety of charged hydrophilic functionalities were attached to the norbornane scaffold including aminium, guanidinium, imidazolium and pyridinium moieties. Additionally, a range of hydrophobic groups of differing sizes were incorporated through an acetal linkage. The compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Activity was observed across the series; the most potent of which exhibited an MIC's ≤ 1 μg mL(-1) against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis and several strains of Staphylococcus aureus, including multi-resistant methicillin resistant (mMRSA), glycopeptide-intermediate (GISA) and vancomycin-intermediate (VISA) S. aureus.
