Abstract
The development of large π-conjugated polycyclic heteroaromatic materials is of immense interest, both in the academic as well as the industrial community. Herein, we present the efficient one-pot synthesis of novel pyreno[2,1-b]furan molecules from a newly designed intermediate, which display intense green emission (505-516 nm) in solution and a large red shift emission (625-640 nm) in the solid state, because of strong π-π stacking. More interestingly, the compounds exhibit novel two-photon absorption (TPA) properties, and the TPA cross-section (δ) value was increased to 533 GM by regulating the electronic effects of the substituents of the pyreno[2,1-b]furan molecules. This study not only offers a facile strategy for constructing new pyrene-fused luminescence materials with two-photon absorption properties but also provides a new chemical intermediate that opens up a new pathway to advanced materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Benzo[b]furan derivatives are oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds consisting of fused benzene and furan rings and are present in a large number of natural and non-natural compounds. This class of compounds has a wide spectrum of biological activities, such as antiarrhythmic, anticancer, inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiviral. Furthermore, benzo[b]furan derivatives have also been applied in various areas, such as organic electroluminescence device materials and organic dyes, photosensitizing material, organic synthesis as building blocks or intermediates. Because of a broad range of applicability, the synthesis of benzo[b]furan derivative has drawn great attention of chemists and many studies on the synthesis of this class of compounds have been reported recently. This review will give an overview of benzo[b]furan preparation based on studies dating back to the year 2012. OBJECTIVE In this review, recent development in the synthesis of benzo[b]furans are discussed. There has been increasingly new methodologies for the construction of benzo[b]furans skeleton to improve efficiency or develop environmentally friendly procedures. In some studies, reaction mechanisms were also outlined. CONCLUSION Many methods for the synthesis of benzo[b]furans have been reported recently. Most of them involve cyclization or cycloisomerization processes. Unquestionably, more imaginative strategies for the construction of benzo[b]furan skeleton will be established in the near future. Application of known methods to natural products or drug synthesis, on industrial scale for the synthesis of economically or medicinally important benzo[ b]furans will probably be paid attention to.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The 2-substituted benzofuran framework has attracted enormous attention due to its presence in a range of bioactive compounds and natural products. While various methods for the synthesis of 2- substituted benzofuran derivatives are known, several of them suffer from certain drawbacks. OBJECTIVE The main objective of this work was to explore a series of 2-(het)aryl substituted benzofurans derivatives for their cytotoxic properties against cancer cell lines in vitro. METHODS In our efforts, we have developed a one-pot synthesis of this class of compounds via sequential C-C coupling followed by C-Si bond cleavage and subsequent tandem C-C/C-O bond-forming reaction under ultrasound irradiation. The methodology involved coupling of (trimethylsilyl)acetylene with iodoarenes in the presence of 10% Pd/C-CuI-PPh3-Et3N in MeOH followed by treating the reaction mixture with K2CO3 in aqueous MeOH and finally coupling with 2-iodophenol. A variety of 2-substituted benzofurans were synthesized using this methodology in good yield. All the synthesized compounds were tested in vitro against two cancer cell lines, e.g. MDAMB-231 and MCF-7 cell lines subsequently against SIRT1. RESULTS The benzofuran derivative 3m showed encouraging growth inhibition of both MDAMB-231 and MCF- 7 cell lines and significant inhibition of SIRT1. The compound 3m also showed a concentration-dependent increase in the acetylation of p53. CONCLUSION Our efforts not only accomplished a one-pot and direct access to 2-(het)aryl substituted benzofurans but also revealed that the benzofuran framework presented here could be a potential template for the identification of potent inhibitors of SIRT1.

Abstract
Disubstituted benzo[b]furans were synthesized by ortho-selective Sonogashira coupling of dichlorophenols and terminal alkynes, followed by cyclization and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling in one pot, using a palladium-dihydroxyterphenylphosphine (Cy-DHTP) catalyst. The use of substoichiometric amounts of tetrabutylammonium chloride was effective in accelerating the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling. This protocol was also successfully applied to the one-pot synthesis of disubstituted indoles from dichloroaniline derivatives.

Abstract
A catalyst composed of [Pd(η(3)-C3H5)Cl]2 and N,N,N',N'-tetra(diphenylphosphinomethyl)pyridine-2,6-diamine (L) was found to be effective for one-pot synthesis of 2-substituted benzo[b]furans from 2-halophenols and alkynes. For 2-bromo-3-hydroxypyridine, the catalyst loading could be as low as 1 ppm and the turnover number (TON) was up to 870,000.
