Abstract
Heterocyclisation of tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBS) protected γ-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated ketones catalysed by para-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) to form substituted furans is reported. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions at room temperature in methanol to give a range of furan products (21 examples, up to 98% yield). Mechanistic experiments suggest the reaction proceeds via in situ deprotection followed by catalytic dehydrative heterocyclisation.

Abstract
Among the famous Daphniphyllum alkaloids family, the calyciphylline A-type subfamily has triggered particular interest from the organic synthesis community in recent years. Here, we report divergent total syntheses of three calyciphylline A-type alkaloids, namely, (-)-10-deoxydaphnipaxianine A, (+)-daphlongamine E, and (+)-calyciphylline R. Our work highlights an efficient, divergent strategy via late-stage divinyl carbinol rearrangements, including an unprecedented oxidative Nazarov electrocyclization using an unfunctionalized tertiary divinyl carbinol and an unusual allylic alcohol rearrangement. A highly efficient "donor-acceptor" platinum catalyst was used for a critical nitrile hydration step. Moreover, the power of selective amide reductions has also been showcased by novel and classic tactics.

Abstract
The kinetics and mechanism of the base-catalyzed hydrolysis (ArB(OR)2 → ArB(OH)2) and protodeboronation (ArB(OR)2 → ArH) of a series of boronic esters, encompassing eight different polyols and 10 polyfluoroaryl and heteroaryl moieties, have been investigated by in situ and stopped-flow NMR spectroscopy (19F, 1H, and 11B), pH-rate dependence, isotope entrainment, 2H KIEs, and KS-DFT computations. The study reveals the phenomenological stability of boronic esters under basic aqueous-organic conditions to be highly nuanced. In contrast to common assumption, esterification does not necessarily impart greater stability compared to the corresponding boronic acid. Moreover, hydrolysis of the ester to the boronic acid can be a dominant component of the overall protodeboronation process, augmented by self-, auto-, and oxidative (phenolic) catalysis when the pH is close to the pKa of the boronic acid/ester.

Abstract
A novel catalyst system-a combination of the readily available 2,2'-biphenol with the inexpensive, nontoxic, and eco-friendly B(OH)3-promoted the Nazarov cyclization of activated and inactivated divinyl ketones to afford the corresponding cyclopentenones up to 96% yield under, in a cis-selective manner. Compared with the conventional harsh conditions with hazardous reagents, user-friendly method was established with bench-stable and easy-to-handle reagents.

Abstract
Pioneering studies by Kuivila, published more than 50 years ago, suggested ipso protonation of the boronate as the mechanism for base-catalyzed protodeboronation of arylboronic acids. However, the study was limited to UV spectrophotometric analysis under acidic conditions, and the aqueous association constants (Ka) were estimated. By means of NMR, stopped-flow IR, and quenched-flow techniques, the kinetics of base-catalyzed protodeboronation of 30 different arylboronic acids has now been determined at pH > 13 in aqueous dioxane at 70 °C. Included in the study are all 20 isomers of C6HnF(5-n)B(OH)2 with half-lives spanning 9 orders of magnitude: <3 ms to 6.5 months. In combination with pH-rate profiles, pKa and ΔS⧧ values, kinetic isotope effects (2H, 10B, 13C), linear free-energy relationships, and density functional theory calculations, we have identified a mechanistic regime involving unimolecular heterolysis of the boronate competing with concerted ipso protonation/C-B cleavage. The relative Lewis acidities of arylboronic acids do not correlate with their protodeboronation rates, especially when ortho substituents are present. Notably, 3,5-dinitrophenylboronic acid is orders of magnitude more stable than tetra- and pentafluorophenylboronic acids but has a similar pKa.

Abstract
The first Lewis acid-catalyzed intramolecular interrupted Nazarov cyclization of 1,4-pentadien-3-ols is described. Using FeBr3 as the catalyst, a series of new substituted cyclopenta[b]indoles was prepared-through a sequence of Nazarov cyclization, nucleophilic amination, and isomerization-with good yields and high diastereo- and regioselectivities. A similar catalytic process was also developed for the synthesis of structurally interesting spiro[indene-1,4'-quinoline]s.

Abstract
Diphenylamino(divinyl)borane (1a) adds two molar equivalents of Piers' borane [HB(C6F5)2] to give the expected double hydroboration product. In contrast diisopropylamino(divinyl)borane (1b) reacts cleanly already with one molar equivalent of HB(C6F5)2 to give the α-borylated tetrahydroborole derivative 10 in good yield. Subsequent treatment of 10 with benzaldehyde proceeded by retro-hydroboration to give the hydroboration product of the aldehyde plus the dihydroborole 3b. We were able to achieve the divinylborane to dihydroborole isomerization (1b to 3b) catalytically: treatment of diisopropylamino(divinyl)borane (1b) with 15 mol% of Piers' borane at elevated temperature gave (diisopropylamino)dihydroborole 3b in good yield.
