Abstract
A variety of N-containing heteroarenes were site-selectively introduced at the C31-position of a chlorophyll-a derivative possessing a 3-vinyl group through a C-N+ bond via oxidative reactions using iodine in the presence of a silver(i) salt. Electron-rich N-heteroarenes were effectively substituted, while electron-withdrawing or bulky nitrogen-neighboring substituents suppressed the reactivities. The cationic products formed were characterized by 1D/2D NMR, and their optical properties were also investigated.

Abstract
Controlling the function of chlorophylls depends in part on their 3D conformation. The NSD program presents a powerful tool to identify the distortion modes in phytochlorins.

Abstract
The enhancement of the light absorption ability of synthetic chlorophyll derivatives is demonstrated. Chlorophyll derivatives directly conjugated with a difluoroboron 1,3-diketonate group at the C3 position were synthesized from methyl pyropheophorbide-d through Barbier acylmethylation of the C3-formyl moiety, oxidation of the C3-carbinol, and difluoroboron complexation of the diketonate. Electronic absorption spectra in a diluted solution showed that the synthetic conjugates gave an absorption band at λ=400-500 nm, with a Qy band shifted to a longer wavelength of λ≈700 nm. DFT calculations demonstrated that the absorption bands and redshifts were ascribable to the coupling of the LUMO of chlorin with that of the difluoroboron diketonate moiety. The introduction of a pyrenyl group at the C3(3) -position of the conjugate afforded an additional charge-transfer band over λ=500 nm, producing a pigment that bridged the green gap in standard chlorophylls.

Abstract
Cyanobacteria have established dominant aquatic populations around the world, generally in aggressive environments and under severe stress conditions, e.g., intense solar radiation. Several marine strains make use of compounds such as the polyenic molecules for their damage protection justifying the range of colours observed for these species. The peridinin/chlorophyll-a/protein complex is an excellent example of essential structures used for self-prevention; their systems allow to them surviving under aggressive environments. In our simulations, few protective dyes are required to the initial specimen defense; this is an important data concern the synthetic priority in order to supply adequate damage protection. Raman measurements obtained with 1064 and 514.5 nm excitations for Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii and Microcystis aeruginosa strains shows bands assignable to the carotenoid peridinin. It was characterized by bands at 1940, 1650, 1515, 1449, 1185, 1155 and 1000 cm(-1) assigned to ν(C=C=C) (allenic vibration), ν(C=C/CO), ν(C=C), δ(C-H, C-18/19), δ(C-H), ν(C-C), and ρ(C-CH3), respectively. Recognition by Raman spectroscopy proved to be an important tool for preliminaries detections and characterization of polyene molecules in several algae, besides initiate an interesting discussion about their synthetic priority.

Abstract
The terminal trifluoroacetyl moiety in a β-diketonate group at the 3 position of a synthetic chlorophyll derivative was reacted with butylamine in dichloromethane to give the hemiaminal-type adduct. Electronic absorption spectra showed the keto carbonyl group at the 3 position of the adduct was converted into the enol type under the basic conditions.
