Abstract
The title compound, C16H17N3O3, is racemic as it crystallizes in a centrosymmetric space group (P ), although the trans disposition of substituents about the central C-C bond is established. The five- and six-membered rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 75.88 (8)°. In the crystal, N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds form chains of mol-ecules extending along the c-axis direction that are connected by inversion-related pairs of O-H⋯N into ribbons. The ribbons are linked by C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions, forming layers parallel to the ab plane. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (45.9%), H⋯N/N⋯H (23.3%), H⋯C/C⋯H (16.2%) and H⋯O/O⋯H (12.3%) inter-actions. Hydrogen bonding and van der Waals inter-actions are the dominant inter-actions in the crystal packing. The volume of the crystal voids and the percentage of free space were calculated to be 100.94 Å3 and 13.20%, showing that there is no large cavity in the crystal packing. Evaluation of the electrostatic, dispersion and total energy frameworks indicates that the stabilization is dominated by the electrostatic energy contributions in the title compound. Moreover, the DFT-optimized structure at the B3LYP/6-311 G(d,p) level is compared with the experimentally determined mol-ecular structure in the solid state. The HOMO-LUMO behaviour was elucidated to determine the energy gap.

Abstract
A small library of 3-hydroxyisoindolin-1-ones has been prepared from 3-alkylidenephtalides under ultrasonic irradiation. This practical synthesis is featured by group tolerance, high efficiency and yields. The reaction can also be performed in multigram scale and be further extended to access other motifs of isoindolin-1-ones in a one-pot fashion. Functionalized isoindolin-1-ones have been prepared in short reaction time and excellent yields from 3-alkylidenephtalides and primary amines under ultrasonic irradiation.![]()

Abstract
The present work describes convenient synthesis of the novel Schiff bases 5a and b by reacting phthalazinones 4a and b with 4-methoxybenzaldehyde Reaction of the Schiff bases with phenylisothiocyanate afforded diazetidine derivatives 7a and b. Also, compounds 4a and b reacted with 2-bromoglucoside tetraacetate giving peracetylated N-glycosides 6a and b, which were deacetylated to afford N-glycosylated phthalazinones 8a and b. On the other hand, when compound 3 was treated with POCl3/PCl5 and/or ethyl chloroacetate, chlorophthalazine and ethyl acetate derivatives 9 and 10 were obtained, respectively. Hydrazinolysis of compounds 9 and 10 produced the hydrazino and hydrazide derivatives 11 and 12, respectively. When compound 11 reacted with 2-furanaldehyde, acetic anhydride, and/or carbon disulphide, it gave compounds 13-15, respectively. Treatment of the hydrazide 12 with aromatic aldehydes, acetic anhydride, ethyl acetoacetate, acetyl acetone, ammonium thiocyanate, and/or phthalic anhydride furnished compounds 17-21. Meanwhile, reacting Schiff base 22 with the chlorophthalazine derivative 9 produced compound 23, which on treatment with furoyl chloride produced compound 24. The structures of the novel compounds were confirmed by IR, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR, MS, and elemental analysis. The newly synthesized compounds were tested against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive bacteria, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aurignosa as Gram-negative bacteria, and Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger as fungi strains. Compounds 5a and b, 23, and 24 showed greater antimicrobial activity than the stranded compounds, suggesting that they could be considered as promising antimicrobial agents.

Abstract
A convenient protocol for the library synthesis of biologically important 1-aryl-2',6-spiro(1',3'-indanedione)-1H-indeno[1,2-b]quinoline-5,7-diones has been developed. In this one-pot reaction protocol a tetrone is condensed with various N-aryl/alkylenamines of 1,3-cyclohexadiones on the surface of a solid-supported acid catalyst silica sulfuric acid under solvent-free condition. The significant advantages of this methodology are the use of solvent-free reaction conditions, operational simplicity of the reaction, good yield of the products with high atom economy, and employment of a recyclable catalyst. All these favorable factors make the present method convenient, economic, and 'benign by design'.

Abstract
A convenient and efficient methodology for the synthesis of densely substituted pyrrole-fused isocoumarins, which employs solid-supported silica sulfuric acid (SSA) as catalyst, has been developed. When the mixture of ninhydrin adducts of acetylacetone/ethyl acetoacetate and primary amines was heated on the solid surface of SSA under solvent-free conditions, the pyrrole-fused isocoumarins were formed in good yields. This synthetic method has several advantages such as the employment of solvent-free reaction conditions without the use of any toxic reagents and metal catalysts, the ease of product isolation, the use of a recyclable catalyst, the low cost, the easy availability of the starting materials, and the excellent yields of products.
