Abstract
The favorable redox properties of ferrocene have led to the extensive development of ferrocene-based systems for several electrochemical applications but have scarcely been explored for electrochromism. Here, we report the synthesis and electrochromic properties of novel π-conjugated ferrocene-dicyanovinylene systems (M1-M5 and D1-D3). Monosubstituted (M1-M5) and disubstituted (D1-D3) compounds have been developed via Knoevenagel condensation of methyl-dicyanovinyl ferrocenes (4 or 5) with various aromatic aldehydes. The compounds' optical (λmax = 320-515 nm) and electronic properties (band gap = 2.6-3.1 eV) have been tuned by the appropriate choice of the aryl substituents. The strong D-A interactions between ferrocene and dicyanovinylene moieties rendered intense colors in the solution and thin-film state and demonstrated high-contrast electrochromism. The electrochromic behavior of these compounds is highly reversible (>48 cycles) and fast (0.98-1.06 s) in both solution and thin-film states. These are the first examples of stand-alone ferrocene systems explored for electrochromism.

Abstract
Various push-pull chromophores can be synthesized in a single and atom-economical step through [2 + 2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization (CA-RE) reactions involving diverse electron-rich alkynes and electron-deficient alkenes. In this review, a comprehensive investigation of the recent and noteworthy advancements in the research on push-pull chromophores prepared via the [2 + 2] CA-RE reaction is conducted. In particular, an overview of the physicochemical properties of the family of these compounds that have been investigated is provided to clarify their potential for future applications.

Abstract
This review describes the design strategies used for the synthesis of various tetracyanobutadiene bridged donor-acceptor molecular architectures by a click type [2+2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization (CA-RE) reaction sequence. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of the tetracyanobutadiene bridged molecular architectures based on various moieties including diketopyrrolopyrrole, isoindigo, benzothiadiazole, pyrene, pyrazabole, truxene, boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY), phenothiazine, triphenylamine, thiazole and bisthiazole are summarized. Further, we discuss some important applications of the tetracyanobutadiene bridged derivatives in dye sensitized solar cells, bulk heterojunction solar cells and photothermal cancer therapy.

Abstract
Three new Y-shaped styryl dyes were designed and synthesized from thiazole carbaldehyde with different active methylene compounds as acceptor moieties. All the dyes were characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS/LCMS/HRMS. Spectroscopic properties and non-linear optical properties styryl derivatives were analyzed and the effect of change in solvent polarity on their absorption and emissive properties has been investigated. The dye with (1-phenylethylidene) propanedinitrile unit shows red shift absorption/emission profile among all the dyes. Density Functional Theory and Time Dependent-Density Functional Theory computations have been used for comparative study with the experimental data and also to understand the structural, molecular, electronic and photophysical parameters of the styryl dyes. The computational method was also employed to investigate the nonlinear optical properties of the styryl dyes in different organic solvent. The unsubstituted benzimidazolyl thiazole styryl dyes possess good non-linear optical properties.
