Convenient method for the preparation of secondary α-ketoamides via aminocarbonylation of acid chlorides with carbamoylsilane

1O2 Mediated Conversion of β-Enaminonitriles to α-Keto Amides Photosensitized by Recyclable H2TPP in Visible Light

We report a one-step approach for the conversion of β-enaminonitriles to synthetically versatile α-keto amides in moderate to high yields under visible light irradiation photosensitized by porphyrins. The method is mild, cost-effective, and sustainable and requires air as the sole reagent/oxidant. The reaction is believed to proceed via an ene-type pathway initiated by 1O2, followed by dehydration, imine hydrolysis, and subsequent nucleophilic substitution of the cyanide group by amine. The method offers a broad substrate scope and has also been extended for synthesis of α-keto esters with aliphatic alcohols as nucleophiles. The porphyrin recovered after the reaction can be reused multiple times.

Ultra-stable fully-aromatic microporous polyamide membrane for molecular sieving of nitrogen over volatile organic compound

Microporous polymer membranes are promising candidates for industrial membrane-based gas separation because of their high separation performance. However, their relatively low stability due to the local rearrangement of polymer chains during usage remains a problem. Hence, we propose the construction of a fully aromatic polymer structure in a microporous polymer membrane to enhance membrane stability. Four triptycene-based microporous polyamides were synthesized via the polymerization of 2,6,14-triaminotriptycene with aromatic acyl chloride and/or aliphatic acyl chlorides. Their properties were characterized and compared by using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analyses. The synthesized polyamides were fabricated into composite membranes by employing a solution process; their stability was evaluated for the molecular sieving of nitrogen over volatile organic compounds such as cyclohexane. Low-field NMR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to investigate the differences in the properties of membranes with different structures at different times. The results showed that the fully aromatic polyamide membrane made from 2,6,14-triaminotriptycene and aromatic acyl chloride displayed constant rejection (99 %) and nitrogen permeability (approximately 50 Barrer) for the molecular sieving of nitrogen over cyclohexane during 100-d experiments, indicating good stability. This approach paves the way for the industrialization of microporous polymer membranes from a theoretical perspective.

Generation of (amino)(boryloxy)carbenes from carbamoylboranes and their coupling reaction with aldehydes

Carbamoylboranes were found to react with various aldehydes under heating conditions to give α-hydroxycarboxamides in good yields. A DFT study supports the mechanism, which involves thermally generated (amino)(boryloxy)carbene intermediates. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the generation of (amino)(boryloxy)carbene intermediates from carbamoylboranes and its application to carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions.

Flexible and Chemoselective Oxidation of Amides to α-Keto Amides and α-Hydroxy Amides

A suite of flexible and chemoselective methods for the transition-metal-free oxidation of amides to α-keto amides and α-hydroxy amides is presented. These highly valuable motifs are accessed in good to excellent yields and stereoselectivities with high functional group tolerance. The utility of the method is showcased by the formal synthesis of a potent histone deacetylase inhibitor.

Nickel-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of aryl halides using carbamoylsilane as an amide source

The nickel-catalyzed aminocarbonylation reaction of aryl halides using carbamoylsilanes as an amide source in toluene is developed leading to the formation of some tertiary or secondary aryl amides in good yields.
