Abstract
A range of heterocycles based on quinoxalines, 1,4-benzoxazines and 1,4-benzothiazines have been accessed from styrenes by reacting them with benzene-1,2-diamine, 2-aminophenol and 2-aminothiophenol respectively in micellar medium. This reaction occurring in a less explored cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) micellar medium operates in the presence of NBS through a tandem hydrobromination-oxidation cascade, converting styrenes to phenacyl bromides. Its subsequent nucleophilic addition with aromatic 1,2-dinucleophiles and further transformations led to the formation of heterocyclic constructs. The locus of the reaction site was confirmed through NMR studies and the types of interactions between the CPB and solubilizates were established by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Catalytic activities of Mn(I) complexes derived from expensive MnBr(CO)5 salt have been explored in various dehydrogenative transformations. However, the reactivity and selectivity of inexpensive high spin Mn(II) complexes are uncommon. Herein, we have synthesized four new Mn(II) complexes and explored switchable alkenylation and alkylation of methyl heteroarenes employing a single Mn(II)catalyst. The developed protocol selectively furnishes a series of functionalized E-heteroarenes and C-alkylated heteroarenes with good to excellent yields. Various medicinally and synthetically useful compounds are successfully synthesized using our developed protocol. Various controls and kinetics experiments were executed to shed light on the mechaism, which reveals that α-C-H bond breaking of alcohol is the slowest step.

Abstract
Quinoxalines are observed in several bioactive molecules and have been widely employed in designing molecules for DSSC's, optoelectronics, and sensing applications. Therefore, developing newer synthetic routes as well as novel ways for their functionalization is apparent.

Abstract
Herein, we report a base-free malononitrile activated condensation of 3-methylquinoxaline-2(1H)-one (3MQ) 1 with aryl aldehydes 3a–3ad for synthesis of styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones (SQs) 4a–4ad with excellent yields. In this reaction, malononitrile activates the aldehyde via Knoevenagel condensation towards reaction with 3MQ 1 and gets liberated during the course of reaction to yield the desired SQs 4a–4ad. The SQs were evaluated for in vitro cholinesterase inhibition and 4n was found to display a mixed type of inhibition of AChE, which was supported by molecular modelling studies. This study has led to the discovery of a new chemotype for cholinesterase inhibition which might be useful in finding a remedy for Alzheimer's disease. SQs displaying anti-Alzheimer activity is serendipitous. Malononitrile as a handle to facilitate nucleophilic attack has been applied for the first time for the easy access of SQs.![]()
