Abstract
Neuropathic pain (NPP) is a common syndrome associated with most forms of disease, which poses a serious threat to human health. NPP may persist even after the nociceptive stimulation is eliminated, and treatment is extremely challenging in such cases. Schwann cells (SCs) form the myelin sheaths around neuronal axons and play a crucial role in neural information transmission. SCs can secrete trophic factors to nourish and protect axons, and can further secrete pain-related factors to induce pain. SCs may be activated by peripheral nerve injury, triggering the transformation of myelinated and non-myelinated SCs into cell phenotypes that specifically promote repair. These differentiated SCs provide necessary signals and spatial clues for survival, axonal regeneration, and nerve regeneration of damaged neurons. They can further change the microenvironment around the regions of nerve injury, and relieve the pain by repairing the injured nerve. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview of the biological characteristics of SCs, discuss the relationship between SCs and nerve injury, and explore the potential mechanism of SCs and the occurrence of NPP. Moreover, we summarize the feasible strategies of SCs in the treatment of NPP, and attempt to elucidate the deficiencies and defects of SCs in the treatment of NPP.

Abstract
Background: Cervical interlaminar epidural steroid injection (CIESI) is increasingly used as an interventional treatment for pain originating from the cervical spine. However, serious neurological complications may occur during CIESI because of direct nerve damage following inappropriate needle placement. Case report: A 35-year-old woman presented with posterior neck pain radiating to the left upper arm. Cervical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed left C6 nerve impingement. CIESI under fluoroscopic guidance was performed at another hospital using the left C5/6 interlaminar approach. Immediately after the procedure, the patient experienced dizziness, decreased blood pressure, motor weakness in the left upper arm, and sensory loss. She visited our emergency department with postdural puncture headache (PDPH) that worsened after the procedure. Post-admission cervical MRI revealed intramedullary T2 high signal intensity and cord swelling from the C4/5 to C6/7 levels; thus, a diagnosis of spinal cord injury was made. The patient’s PDPH spontaneously improved after 48 h. However, despite conservative treatment with steroids, the decrease in abduction of the left fifth finger and loss of sensation in the dorsum of the left hand persisted for up to 6 months after the procedure. As noticed in the follow-up MRI performed 6 months post-procedure, the T2 high signal intensity in the left intramedullary region had decreased compared to that observed previously; however, cord swelling persisted. Furthermore, left C7/8 radiculopathy with acute denervation was confirmed by electromyography performed 6 months after the procedure. Conclusions: Fluoroscopy does not guarantee the prevention of spinal cord penetration during CIESI. Moreover, persistent neurological deficits may occur, particularly due to intrathecal perforation or drug administration during CIESI. Therefore, in accordance with the recommendations of the Multisociety Pain Workgroup, we recommend performing CIESI at the C6/7 or C7/T1 levels, where the epidural space is relatively large, rather than at the C5/6 level or higher.

Global Research on Neuropathic Pain Rehabilitation over the Last 20 Years. Neural Plast 2021; 2021:5594512. Abstract
Background Neuropathic pain has long been a very popular and productive field of clinical research. Neuropathic pain is difficult to cure radically because of its complicated etiology and uncertain pathogenesis. As pain worsens and persists, pain recovery techniques become more important, and medication alone is insufficient. No summary of bibliometric studies on neuropathic pain rehabilitation is yet available. The purpose of the present study is to analyze in a systematic manner the trends of neuropathic pain rehabilitation research over the period of 2000–2019. Methods Studies related to neuropathic pain rehabilitation and published between January 2000 and December 2019 were obtained from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of Web of Science. No restrictions on language, literature type, or species were established. CiteSpace V and Microsoft Excel were used to capture basic information and highlights in the field. Results Linear regression analysis showed that the number of publications on neuropathic pain rehabilitation significantly increased over time (P < 0.001). The United States showed absolute strength in terms of number of papers published, influence, and cooperation with other countries. Based on the subject categories of the Web of Science, “Rehabilitation” had the highest number of published papers (446), the highest number of citations (10,954), and the highest number of open-access papers (151); moreover, this category and “Clinical Neurology” had the same H-index (i.e., 52). “Randomized Controlled Trials” revealed the largest cluster in the cocitation map of references. The latest burst keywords included “Exercise” (2014–2019), “Functional Recovery” (2015–2019), and “Questionnaire” (2015–2019). Conclusion This study provides valuable information for neuropathic pain rehabilitation researchers seeking fresh viewpoints related to collaborators, cooperative institutions, and popular topics in this field. Some new research trends are also highlighted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) play important roles in the regulation of neuropathic pain (NP) development. LncRNAs dysregulations are related to the development of NP. However, a comprehensive meta-analysis has never been conducted to assess the relationship between LncRNAs and NP. To combine the results of dysregulated LncRNAs in individual NP studies and to identify potential LncRNAs biomarkers. METHODS LncRNAs profiling studies of NP were extracted from Pubmed, Web of science, Embase, Google Scholar, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database if they met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis was conducted using a random effects model to identify the effect of each multiple-reported LncRNAs. We also performed subgroup analysis according to LncRNAs detecting methods and sample type. Sensitivity analysis was performed on the sample size. Bioinformatic analysis was performed to identify the potential biomatic functions. All results were represented as log10 odds ratios. RESULTS This review will be disseminated in print by peer-review. CONCLUSION The identified LncRNAs may be closely linked with NP and may act as potentially useful biomarkers. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The private information from individuals will not publish. This systematic review also will not involve endangering participant rights. Ethical approval is not available. Abstract
Venlafaxine is the third most frequently prescribed antidepressant in France the last decade, with about 400,000 daily doses. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of this medication, by measuring the active moiety venlafaxine (V) and O-desmethylvenlafaxine (ODV), is recommended (level of recommendation 2). However, this antidepressant seems to be the one for which clinicians most often use TDM, much more frequently than escitalopram, which is more prescribed and for which TDM is also recommended. The main goal of this review is to provide an update on the TDM of venlafaxine: its therapeutic interval, its level of recommendation and the origin of its "success". From the literature does not enable to define a therapeutic interval for the active moiety V+ODV, that is to say a steady-state trough concentration allowing a clinical response without toxicity. Nevertheless, a target concentration from 100 to 400μg/L is certainly relevant for the majority of patients without any pharmacodynamic resistance ; though a greater concentration could result in an earlier response or could be required for a clinical response in a minority of patients. A patient with no clinical response despite a concentration greater than 1000μg/L should be proposed another antidepressant. Measurement of the ODV/V ratio is also a useful tool, values below 0.3 usually reflecting a slow metabolizer phenotype for cytochrome P-450 2D6, which is more at risk of adverse effects. Research for this phenotype probably explains many prescriptions for TDM.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a major dose-limiting side effect induced by a variety of chemotherapeutic agents. Symptoms are mainly sensory: pain, tingling, numbness, and temperature sensitivity. They may require the tapering of chemotherapy regimens or even their cessation; thus, the prevention/treatment of CIPN is critical to increase effectiveness of cancer treatment. However, CIPN management is mainly based on conventional neuropathic pain treatments, with poor clinical efficacy. Therefore, significant effort is made to identify new pharmacological targets to prevent/treat CIPN. Animal modeling is a key component in predicting human response to drugs and in understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying CIPN. In fact, studies performed in rodents highlighted several pharmacological targets to treat/prevent CIPN. This review provides updated information about ongoing clinical trials testing drugs for the management of CIPN and presents some of their proof-of-concept studies conducted in rodent models. The presented drugs target oxidative stress, renin-angiotensin system, glutamatergic neurotransmission, sphingolipid metabolism, neuronal uptake transporters, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide metabolism, endocannabinoid system, transient receptor potential channels, and serotoninergic receptors. As some clinical trials focus on the effect of the drugs on pain, others evaluate their efficacy by assessing general neuropathy. Moreover, based on studies conducted in rodent models, it remains unclear if some of the tested drugs act in an antinociceptive fashion or have neuroprotective properties. Thus, further investigations are needed to understand their mechanism of action, as well as a global standardization of the methods used to assess efficacy of new therapeutic strategies in the treatment of CIPN.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) with or without neuropathic pain is a frequent complication of diabetes. This work aimed to determine the prevalence of diabetic polyneuropathy, to describe its epidemiological aspects, and to analyze the therapeutic itinerary of patients with DPN. METHODS This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study performed synchronously over six months at two major follow-up sites for patients with diabetes in Mali. DPN was diagnosed based on the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI). The neuropathic nature of the pain and the quality of life of patients were evaluated by the DN4 and the ED-5D scale, respectively. We used three (3) different questionnaires to collect data from patients (one at inclusion and another during the follow-up consultation) and from the caregivers of patients with DPN. RESULTS We included 252 patients with diabetes, and DPN was found to have a healthcare facility-based prevalence of 69.8% (176/252). The sex ratio was approximately three females for every male patient. The patients were mostly 31 to 60 years of age, 83% had type 2 diabetes, and 86.9% had neuropathic pain Approximately half of the patients (48.3%) had autonomic neuropathy and they reported moderate to intense pain, which was mainly described as a burning sensation. The patients exhibited impaired exteroceptive and proprioceptive sensations in 51.7% of cases. The patients smoked tobacco in 3.4% of cases, while 36.6% of the patients were obese and had dyslipidemia. The caregivers clearly indicated that appropriate medications were not readily accessible or available for their patients with DPN. CONCLUSION The healthcare facility-based prevalence of DPN with or without neuropathic pain was high in our cohort. These inexpensive and easy-to-use tools (MNSI, DN4) can be used to adequately diagnose DPN in the African context. In Mali, screening and early treatment of patients at risk of DPN should allow for a reduction of the burden of the disease, while caregivers need to be adequately trained to manage DPN.
