Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the impact of thermal ablation (TA) for the treatment of cervical dysplasia on fertility and pregnancy outcomes among women screened for cervical cancer in Cameroon. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Dschang health district, Cameroon. POPULATION Participants aged 30-45 years from two screening trials conducted between 2015 and 2020 in Dschang District Hospital. METHODS Participants were primarily screened for human papillomavirus infection, triaged by visual inspection and treated by TA if needed. Between October 2021 and March 2022, interviews on subsequent fertility were conducted with participants treated by TA and a control group of untreated women. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Pregnancy and miscarriage after screening/treatment. RESULTS A total of 760 participants (219 treated and 541 untreated) completed the survey, with a mean follow-up time of 1297 days. Sixty-two women (28.3%) treated by TA reported a pregnancy postscreening versus 165 (30.5%) in the control group (p = 0.550). Adjusted for potential confounders, the hazard ratio of pregnancy for treated compared with untreated women was 0.82 (0.54-1.24, p = 0.350). Among women reporting pregnancies with a known outcome and which were not voluntarily terminated, 18 (35.3%) treated participants had a miscarriage versus 31 (21.4%) in the control group (p = 0.048). In the adjusted model, no association remained between TA and miscarriage (1.04, 0.39-2.78, p = 0.935). CONCLUSIONS In our study population, TA did not significantly impact fertility nor miscarriage risk. Our results support the widespread use of TA as a treatment of choice for precancerous cervical lesions in low-income settings.

Abstract
In mammals, the placenta is a connection between a mother and a new developing organism. This tissue has a protective function against some microorganisms, transports nutrients, and exchanges gases and excretory substances between the mother and the fetus. Placental tissue is mainly composed of chorionic villi functional units called trophoblasts (cytotrophoblasts, the syncytiotrophoblast, and extravillous trophoblasts). However, some viruses have developed mechanisms that help them invade the placenta, causing various conditions such as necrosis, poor perfusion, and membrane rupture which, in turn, can impact the development of the fetus and put the mother's health at risk. In this study, we collected the most relevant information about viral infection during pregnancy which can affect both the mother and the fetus, leading to an increase in the probability of vertical transmission. Knowing these mechanisms could be relevant for new research in the maternal-fetal context and may provide options for new therapeutic targets and biomarkers in fetal prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis claiming an association between human papilloma virus (HPV) sperm infection and idiopathic recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). DESIGN Multicenter retrospective case-control study. SETTING Three university hospitals. PATIENT(S) Cases included men belonging to couples affected by first trimester idiopathic RPL. Controls included men belonging to couples with proven fertility and no history of pregnancy loss; RPL was defined as the previous loss of 2 or more pregnancies. Couples were defined as "fertile" if they achieved a full-term pregnancy within the year before enrollment in the study. All participants conceived without assistance. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) The association between HPV DNA sperm infection, as identified using polymerase chain reaction, and RPL. RESULTS The HPV DNA sperm infection was detected in 23 of 117 cases (20%; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 13%, 28%) and in 3 of 84 controls (4%; 95% CI; 1%, 10%) (P<.001). A comparison across baseline characteristics and multiple regression analysis did not identify any potentially confounding factors. Multivariate regression models showed a significant association between HPV DNA sperm infection and RPL (adjusted odds ratio, 7.44; 95% CI: 2.08, 26.58; P=.002 [Model 1]; adjusted odds ratio, 8.96; 95% CI: 2.41, 33.44; P=.001 [Model 2]). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of HPV sperm infection was significantly higher in couples affected by RPL than in their fertile counterparts. Notably, the semen sample was infected by HPV in approximately 1 out of 5 patients.

Abstract
Background: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) represents the most prevalent genital infection in young women of reproductive age. Objective: This systematic review aims to estimate the effect of HPV infection during pregnancy and assess the correlation between HPV and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Materials and methods: The search strategy has been developed based on the PICOS framework: Population (pregnant women infected with HPV), Intervention (HPV infection confirmed by molecular tests), Comparator (pregnant women without HPV infection), Outcomes (adverse pregnancy outcomes) and Study design (observational studies). We searched PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases on 8 January 2022 by using the following keywords: “HPV”, “prematurity”, “preterm birth”, “miscarriage”, “premature rupture of membranes”, “adverse pregnancy outcome”, “low birth weight”, “fetal growth restriction”, “pregnancy-induced hypertensive disorders”, “preeclampsia”. Selection criteria were HPV infection confirmed within maximum 2 years before pregnancy with a molecular test and adverse pregnancy outcomes. (Results: Although numerous studies are conducted on this topic, data are still controversial regarding identifying maternal HPV infection as a risk factor for adverse pregnancy outcomes. More prospective large cohort studies are needed to prove a causative relationship.
