Abstract
Perfluorocompound (PFC) gases play vital roles in microelectronics processing. Requirements for ultra-high purities traditionally necessitate use of virgin sources and thereby hinder the capture, purification, and reuse of these costly gases. Most importantly, gaseous PFCs are incredibly potent greenhouse gases with atmospheric lifetimes on the order of 103-104 years, and thus any environmental emissions have an outsized and prolonged impact on our climate. The development of sorbents that can capture PFC gases from industrial waste streams has lagged substantially behind the progress made over the last decade in capturing CO2 from both point emission sources and directly from air. Herein, we show that the metal-organic framework Zn(fba) (fba2- = 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)bis-benzoate) displays an equilibrium selectivity for CF4 adsorption over N2 that surpasses those of all water-stable sorbents that have been reported for this separation. Selective adsorption of both CHF3 and CH4 over N2 is also evident, demonstrating a general preference for tetrahedral C1 gases. This selectivity is enabled by adsorption within narrow corrugated channels lined with ligand-based aryl rings, a site within this material that has not previously been realized as being accessible to guests. Analyses of adsorption kinetics and X-ray diffraction data are used to characterize sorption and diffusion of small adsorbates within these channels and strongly implicate rotation of the linker aryl rings as a gate that modulates transport of the C1 gases through a crystallite. Multi-component breakthrough measurements demonstrate that Zn(fba) is able to resolve mixtures of CF4 and N2 under flow-through conditions. Taken together, this work illuminates the dynamic structure of Zn(fba), and also points toward general design principles that can enable large CF4 selectivities in sorbents with more favorable kinetic profiles.

Abstract
Imbuing superwetting functions to organic-inorganic hybrid networks displaying chemical resistance, self-cleaning ability, and selective permeation of liquids has received increasing attention in recent years. Here we report superhydrophobic ZIF-7 and ZIF-11 on multilayer fluorinated graphene (FG) nanosheets with long-lasting water-repellent features. By exploring the solution processing of these chemically resistant dispersions, superoleophilic FG-ZIF-7 stainless steel mesh (FG-ZIF-7-SSM) and FG-ZIF-11 over cotton cloth (FG-ZIF-11-CC) possessing superior adhesion were fabricated. These permselective oil-liking prototypes were explored toward mesitylene and crude oil pickup from chemically harsh marine conditions such as seawater, acidic water, and alkaline water, with a separation efficiency of 96-94% up to 10 cycles. Furthermore, using an FG-ZIF-11-CC-wrapped glass pipet, upward diffusion of chloroform from sea, acidic, and alkaline water in 45 s was demonstrated with a separation efficacy of 94% up to 20 cycles. In addition to the chemical resistance and reusability, the mechanical stability of FG-ZIF-7-SSM and FG-ZIF-11-CC was investigated through folding, tape peeling, and dragging through sandpaper up to 250 cycles, showing no signs of changes in the hydrophobic responses. This research sheds light on the application of physiochemically resistant percolation coatings based on fluorinated graphene multilayers supporting ZIF-7 and ZIF-11 toward oil/water separation.

Abstract
The susceptibility to moisture of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is a critical bottleneck for their wider practical application. Constructing core-shell composites has been postulated as an effective strategy for enhancing moisture resistance, but for fragile MOFs this has rarely been accomplished. We report herein, for the first time, the construction of a customized hydrophobic porous shell, NTU-COF, on the particularly fragile MOF-5 by a "Plug-Socket Anchoring" strategy. Notably, the pore structure of MOF-5 was well maintained, and it could still achieve complete CO2/N2 separation under humid conditions. The homogeneous interface between MOF-5 and NTU-COF has been inspected at atomic resolution by a combination of cryogenic focused ion beam (cryo-FIB) and ultralow-dose (scanning) transmission electron microscope giving profound insight into the mechanism of assembly of the core-shell structure. This work presents a facile strategy for the fabrication of a hydrophobic porous shell for labile MOFs, and provides a general approach for solving the problem of moisture instability of porous materials for practical applications.

Abstract
Superhydrophobic metal-organic framework (MOF)-based sponges have received increasing attention in terms of treating oil-water mixtures. However, highly fluorinated substances, commonly used as modifiers to improve the hydrophobicity of MOFs, have aroused much environmental concern. Developing a green hydrophobic modification is crucial in order to prepare superhydrophobic MOF-sponge composites. Herein, we report the preparation of a porous composite sponge via a polydopamine (PDA)-assisted growth of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-90) and eco-friendly hydrophobic short-chain fluorinated substances (trifluoroethylamine) on a melamine formaldehyde (MF) sponge. The composite sponge (F-ZIF-90@PDA-MF) exhibited superhydrophobicity (water contact angle, 153°) and superoleophilicity (oil contact angle, 0°), which is likely due to the combination of the low surface energy brought on by the grafted CF3 groups, as well as the rough surface structures that were derived from the in situ growth of ZIF-90 nanoparticles. F-ZIF-90@PDA-MF showed an excellent adsorption capacity of 39.4-130.4 g g-1 for the different organic compounds. The adsorbed organic compounds were easily recovered by physical squeezing. Continuous and selective separation for the different oil-water mixtures was realized by employing the composite sponge as an absorbent or a filter. The separation efficiency and flux reached above 99.5% and went up to 7.1 ×105 L m-2 h-1, respectively. The results illustrate that the superhydrophobic and superoleophilic F-ZIF-90@PDA-MF sponge has potential in the field of water-oil separation, especially for the purposes of large-scale oil recovery in a water environment.

Abstract
Hybrid materials based on polystyrene (PS) and green metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated as potential sorbents in dispersive micro-solid-phase extraction (µ-dSPE). Among the resulting materials, the hybrid PS/DUT-67(Zr) was selected as the adequate extraction material for the monitoring of six personal care products in micellar cosmetic samples, combining the µ-dSPE method with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to ultraviolet/visible detection (UV/Vis). Univariate studies and a factorial design were performed in the optimization of the microextraction procedure. The compromise optimum extraction conditions included 20 mg of PS/DUT-67(Zr) for 10 mL of sample, 2 min of extraction time, and two desorption steps using 100 µL of acetonitrile and 5 min assisted by vortex in each one. The validated μ-dSPE-UHPLC-UV/Vis method presented limits of detection and quantification down to 3.00 and 10.0 μg·L−1, respectively. The inter-day precision values were lower than 23.5 and 21.2% for concentration levels of 75 μg·L−1 and 650 μg·L−1, respectively. The hydrophobicity of the resulting PS/DUT-67(Zr) material was crucial for the improvement of its extraction capacity in comparison with its unitary components, showing the advantages of combining MOFs with other materials, getting new sorbents with interesting properties.
