Abstract
INTRODUCTION Nephron-sparing surgery is the recommended surgical management of T1 renal cell carcinoma (RCC). However, non-clear cell RCC (nccRCC) is heterogeneous and included many histological types. Therefore, the present study was performed to compare radical nephrectomy (RN) versus partial nephrectomy (PN) in nccRCC. MATERIALS AND METHODS Within the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry (2000-2019), the patients with nccRCC were identified. Kaplan-Meier survival curve and the log-rank test were conducted. Univariate analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis were performed to explore the prognostic factors. RESULTS A total of 7575 patients with nccRCC were included, of which papillary RCC (n = 5219) is the major histology. Kaplan-Meier plots and log-rank tests showed that nccRCC patients who underwent RN had significantly worse overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) than those who received PN (all P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis also revealed that RN was significantly associated with poor OS and CSS in nccRCC patients. Stratified by histological types, the multivariate analysis also revealed that RN was significantly associated with poor OS in papillary and chromophobe (all P < 0.05). Besides, the multivariable analysis indicated that RN was associated with poor CSS in papillary RCC (P < 0.05). For other histology, the patients who received RN had a comparable survival to those who received PN. CONCLUSION For patients with T1 nccRCC, our findings revealed that PN was not inferior to RN in OS and CSS. PN may be also the preferred option for T1 nccRCC, but more prospective studies are required to validate this finding.

Cuproptosis-Related LncRNA-Based Prediction of the Prognosis and Immunotherapy Response in Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma. Int J Mol Sci 2023; 24:ijms24021464. Abstract
Cuproptosis, a new cell death pattern, is promising as an intervention target to treat tumors. Abnormal long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression is closely associated with the occurrence and development of papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC). However, cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLs) remain largely unknown as prognostic markers for pRCC. We aimed to forecast the prognosis of pRCC patients by constructing models according to CRLs and to examine the correlation between the signatures and the inflammatory microenvironment. From the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), RNA sequencing, genomic mutations and clinical data of TCGA-KIRP (Kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma) were analyzed. Randomly selected pRCC patients were allotted to the training and testing sets. To determine the independent prognostic impact of the training characteristic, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm was utilized, together with univariate and multivariate Cox regression models. Further validation was performed in the testing and whole cohorts. External datasets were utilized to verify the prognostic value of CRLs as well. The CRLs prognostic features in pRCC were established based on the five CRLs (AC244033.2, LINC00886, AP000866.1, MRPS9-AS1 and CKMT2-AS1). The utility of CRLs was evaluated and validated in training, testing and all sets on the basis of the Kaplan-Meier (KM) survival analysis. The risk score could be a robust prognostic factor to forecast clinical outcomes for pRCC patients by the LASSO algorithm and univariate and multivariate Cox regression. Analysis of Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) data demonstrated that differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are primarily important for immune responses and the PI3K-Akt pathway. Arachidonic acid metabolism was enriched in the high-risk set by Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA). In addition, Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) analysis suggested that there was a high risk of immune escape in the high-risk cohort. The immune functions of the low- and high-risk sets differed significantly based on immune microenvironment analysis. Finally, four drugs were screened with a higher sensitivity to the high-risk set. Taken together, a novel model according to five CRLs was set up to forecast the prognosis of pRCC patients, which provides a potential strategy to treat pRCC by a combination of cuproptosis and immunotherapy.

Abstract
In recent years, several emerging diagnostic entities have been described in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). However, our understanding of well-known and established entities has also grown. Clear cell papillary RCC is now relabeled as a tumor rather than carcinoma in view of its nonaggressive behavior. Renal tumors with a predominantly infiltrative pattern are very important for recognition, as most of these have aggressive behavior, including fumarate hydratase-deficient RCC, SMARCB1-deficient medullary carcinoma, collecting duct carcinoma, urothelial carcinoma, and metastases from other cancers.

Abstract
Cuproptosis is a novel kind of programmed cell death that has been linked to tumor development, prognosis, and responsiveness to therapy. Nevertheless, the precise function of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) remains unknown. We characterized the genetic and transcriptional changes of CRGs in papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) samples and analyzed the expression patterns in two separate cohorts. We observed that two unique cuproptosis-related subgroups and three separate gene subgroups were connected with clinicopathological, prognostic, and TME features of patients. Then, a risk score for predicting overall survival (OS) was created and validated in patients with PRCC. To make the risk score more clinically useful, we created a nomogram that was very accurate. A lower risk score, which was associated with higher tumor mutation burden, and immune activity, suggested a better prognosis for OS. Additionally, the risk score was shown to be substantially linked with the drug’s susceptibility to chemotherapeutic agents. Our extensive research of CRGs in PRCC identified possible roles for them in the TME, clinicopathological features, and overall survival. These findings may help advance our knowledge of CRGs in PRCC and pave the way for improved prognosis and the creation of more effective immunotherapy therapies.

Abstract
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) occurring in the setting of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) shows unique clinicopathological characteristics. The two most frequent types of ESRD-associated RCC are acquired cystic kidney disease-associated renal cell carcinoma (ACKD-RCC) and clear-cell papillary renal cell carcinoma (ccpRCC). Other types of RCC also occur in ESRD, albeit with different frequencies from the non-ESRD general population. The histological features of RCC do not vary in the setting of ESRD vs. non-ESRD, yet other findings, such as multifocality and multiple tumor types, are more frequent in ESRD. Studies have generated novel and important knowledge of the etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, immunophenotype, and molecular characteristics of ESRD-associated RCC. Knowledge of these data is important for both pathologists and other physicians who may encounter ESRD patients with RCC. This review presents a comprehensive summary and update of the literature on RCC in ESRD, with a focus on the two most frequent types, ACKD-RCC and ccpRCC.

Abstract
Renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) is a group of various malignant tumours of the renal cortex displaying distinct clinical, morphologic, and genetic features. Clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma (ccpRCC), belonging to this group, shares morphologic features with both clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) and therefore, more strict diagnostic criteria should be developed to avoid misdiagnosis. Despite overlapping features, ccpRCC has also distinct clinical behaviour, histologic characteristics (morphologic and immunohistochemical), and genomic features. The concepts concerning this tumour are constantly developing since its biological potential and molecular basis remains to be fully unravelled. First reports indicated the presence of ccpRCC in end-stage renal disease, and they underlined the enriched development in this group of patients; however, currently, it is known that such tumours can also occur spontaneously in the normal kidney. Numerous studies have demonstrated that clinical outcomes and prognosis of ccpRCC patients is highly favourable. Till now, no convincing evidence of metastatic ccpRCC or death caused by the disease has been found. Therefore, it is of high importance to correctly differentiate ccpRCC from other subtypes of RCC with a much worse prognosis and to introduce appropriate management.
