Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to investigate the microsurgical anatomy of the superficial temporal artery (STA), explore the relationship between STA length and lumen diameter, and develop a reliable radiologic method for selecting STA segments for bypass surgery. METHODS This study used 10 cadaveric dissections (20 STAs, both sides) and 20 retrospective radiological examinations (40 STAs, both sides), employing curved multiplanar reformation and flow color lookup table (CLUT) DICOM processing. Measurements included vessel lumen diameters and luminal cross-sectional thicknesses 3 mm proximal to the STA bifurcation, 3 mm distal to the frontal branch, 5 cm distal to the frontal branch, 3 mm distal to the parietal branch, and 5 cm distal to the parietal branch. The distance between the STA bifurcation and the superior zygomatic border (SZB) was also measured. In our analysis, descriptive statistics encompassed mean, standard deviation (SD), standard error, minimum and maximum values, and distributions. Comparative statistics were performed using Student's t-test, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. RESULTS There were no statistically significant differences between STA measurements of bifurcation distances (p = 0.88) and lumen diameters (p = 0.46) between cadavers and radiological measures. However, lumen thicknesses were larger in frontal branches than parietal branches at the seventh and eighth centimeter (p = 0.012, p = 0.039). Branches became thinner distally from the zygoma in both cadavers and radiological image measurements. CONCLUSION The CLUT DICOM processing radiological measures provided the high-precision required to enable pre-surgical vessel selection for extracranial-intracranial bypass. The results show that STA vessel luminal diameters are sufficient (> 1 mm) for bypass surgery in the first 9 cm but gradually decrease after that. Also shown is that the choice of frontal versus parietal branches depends on individual anatomical features; therefore, careful preoperative radiological examination is critical.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Blood blister-like aneurysm (BBA) is a special type of intracranial aneurysm with relatively low morbidity and high mortality. Various microsurgical techniques and endovascular approaches have been reported, but the optimal management remains controversial. For a better understanding of the treatment of BBA patients, a network meta-analysis that comprehensively compares the effects of different therapies is necessary. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This protocol has been reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols. Related studies in the following databases will be searched until November 2022: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP and Wanfang. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomised studies comparing at least two different interventions in BBA patients will be included. Quality assessment will be conducted using Cochrane Collaboration's tool or Newcastle-Ottawa Scale based on their study designs. The primary outcome is the composite of the incidences of intraoperative bleeding, postoperative bleeding and postoperative recurrence. The secondary outcome is an unfavourable functional outcome. Pairwise and network meta-analyses will be conducted using STATA V.14 (StataCorp, College Station, Texas, USA). Mean ranks and the surface under the cumulative ranking curve will be used to evaluate every intervention. Statistical inconsistency assessment, subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis and publication bias assessment will be performed. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethics approval is not necessary because this study will be based on publications. The results of this study will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. Abstract
Background Blood blister aneurysm (BBA) is a complex and rare aneurysm that presents significant treatment challenges. The application of pipeline embolization device (PED)-assisted coiling in the treatment of ruptured BBA remains controversial. This study aimed to report on our experience and assess the safety and efficacy of this strategy. Methods Between February 2019 and February 2021, 12 patients with ruptured BBAs underwent PED-assisted coil embolization. We collected detailed data about each patient, including demographic information, aneurysmal data, technical details, antiplatelet strategy, operation-related complications, and follow-up outcomes. Results A total of 12 BBA patients were treated with single PED-assisted coil embolization. One patient experienced intraoperative rupture that was controlled by rapid coiling without clinical consequences. All the patients demonstrated complete occlusion on postoperative angiography. A total of three patients had postoperative complications: left hemiparesis, Broca's aphasia, and right hemiplegia due to vasospasm, and transient hemiparesis. Follow-up angiography revealed that all BBAs were completely occluded, except one with neck residue. All patients had favorable outcomes at discharge and the most recent clinical follow-up (mRS score ≤ 2). Conclusion Endovascular treatment of BBAs of the internal carotid artery using PED-assisted coil embolization is a safe and effective strategy. This has contributed to the understanding of BBA therapy and provides a potentially optimal treatment option for this intractable lesion.

Abstract
Objective Blood blister-like aneurysms (BBAs) of the internal carotid artery are highly challenging to treat due to their variable morphology and tendency for rupture and regrowth. Here, we report a single-institution experience of endovascular therapy (EVT) for BBA treatment. Methods We retrospectively reviewed patients with ruptured BBA from 2006 to 2019. All patients in whom BBA was treated with EVT were included. Patients' aneurysmal characteristics, progression status, aneurysm occlusion on follow-up angiography, and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score were recorded. Results A total of 11 patients (5 women and 6 men) with the mean age of 46 ± 10 years were included in this study. As initial treatment, 9 patients were treated with stent-assisted coiling (SAC). Immediate angiographic results showed that 2 cases were body filling, 4 were neck remnant, and 3 were complete obliteration. Perioperative ischemic complications were not observed. On postoperative day 1, 2 patients suffered from rerupture, and their prognoses were poor. Retreatments were performed in 5 patients. Parent artery occlusion (PAO) was performed in 6 patients including 2 initial treatments and 4 retreatments. Symptomatic infarction developed in 2 patients. In 3 patients, bypass in combination with PAO was performed. Clinical data revealed discharge mRS scores of 0-2 and 3-6 in 4 and 7 patients, respectively. Conclusion SAC is effective for the management of BBA. Careful follow-up and response are necessary after treatment with SAC.

Abstract
Presurgical discrimination of blood blister-like aneurysms (BBAs) can assist neurosurgeons in clinical decision-making. The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics of BBAs and construct a useful tool to distinguish BBAs. This study reviewed patients with small/median, hemispherical, and wide-necked aneurysms of the internal carotid artery in our institution. BBAs were identified via their intraoperative findings. A hemodynamic analysis was performed using a patient-specific model. The independent risk factors of BBAs were investigated using a logistic analysis. A scoring system was then established to discriminate BBAs, in which its predicting value was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. A total of 67 aneurysms comprising 21 BBAs were enrolled. Comparing features between BBAs and non-BBAs, statistical significances were found in the aspect ratio (AR), height-to-width ratio, aneurysm angle (AA), wall shear stress gradient (WSSG), and normalized wall shear stress average. A multivariate logistic analysis identified AR (OR = 0.29, p = 0.021), WSSG (OR = 1.54, p = 0.017) and AA (OR = 2.49, p = 0.039) as independent risk factors for BBAs. A scoring system was constructed using these parameters, effectively distinguishing BBAs (AUC = 0.931, p < 0.01). Our multidimensional scoring system may effectively assist in the discrimination of BBAs from wide-necked non-BBAs.
