Abstract
OBJECTIVE Craniopharyngiomas (CP) are rare brain tumors that often result in visual impairment due to their proximity to the optic pathway. The optimal management approach to preserve visual function in these patients remains controversial. We sought to investigate visual outcomes of children with craniopharyngiomas based on treatment modality. METHODS A systematic review was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched in December 2022 for relevant articles. Articles were screened by title/abstract for relevance, then by full-text. Relevant demographic, intervention, and outcome data were extracted from included studies. RESULTS A total of 59 studies were included, representing 2655 patients. The overall visual status (OVS) of patients receiving surgery alone was improved in 27.6% of reported outcomes, unchanged in 50.3%, and deteriorated in 22.1%. The OVS for patients receiving radiation alone was improved in 21.1%, unchanged in 42.1%, and deteriorated in 36.8%. Patients receiving surgery plus adjuvant radiotherapy had OVS improvement in 27.4%, unchanged in 63.2%, and deteriorated in 9.4%. Of those receiving intracystic bleomycin, 23.1% had improvement in OVS, 46.2% remained unchanged, and 30.8% deteriorated. Of patients receiving interferon-α, 34.8% improved, 54.5% remained unchanged, and 10.6% deteriorated. CONCLUSION OVS most frequently remained unchanged regardless of intervention. The greatest improvement in OVS was seen in those receiving interferon-α or surgery alone. The greatest OVS deterioration was noted with radiation alone. Future standardized, randomized, large-scale studies with focused assessment of ophthalmologic findings are key to further understanding the impact different interventions have on visual outcomes in these children.

Abstract
Quality of life (QoL) is a critical component of aftercare in survivors of childhood-onset craniopharyngioma (CP). Visual impairment adversely affects QoL after CP. This study assessed the frequency of visual impairment in patients with CP and its association with QoL. This study analyzed vision-related QoL in patients recruited 2000-2019 in the prospective cohort studies KRANIOPHARYNGEOM 2000/2007. Ophthalmologic examinations were performed at diagnosis, three, 12, and 36 months, respectively after the diagnosis. The QoL (PEDQOL) scores, were also evaluated at three, 12, and 36 months, respectively after the CP diagnosis. Multivariable logistic regression was used to analyze factors associated with visual impairment during follow-up. One-hundred twenty patients were included in this study. On ophthalmological examination, visual impairment was observed in the majority of the patients (n = 84, 70%) at CP diagnosis. After surgery, vision was restored in 27 patients (32%) with visual impairment at diagnosis. In the first (p = 0.017) and third (p = 0.011) year after diagnosis, parents of patients with visual impairment reported lower social functioning (family). Reduced autonomy was found three years after diagnosis in self- (p = 0.029) and parental (p = 0.048) assessments. Next to visual impairment at diagnosis, no additional risk factors for visual impairment during follow-up could be identified. Visual impairment has a clinically relevant impact on QoL after CP. The visual status at CP diagnosis determines the visual outcome during follow-up. Early detection of visual impairment, regular QoL assessments, and risk-appropriate aftercare are recommended.Clinical Trial Registration KRANIOPHARYNGEOM 2000 (Clinical trial registration number: NCT00258453) and KRANIOPHARYNGEOM 2007 (Clinical trial registration number: NCT01272622).

Abstract
PURPOSE Pediatric patients with craniopharyngioma risk cognitive deficits when treated with radiation therapy. We investigated cognitive outcomes after conformal photon radiation therapy (CRT) and the effect of visual deficits and hormone deficiencies. METHODS AND MATERIALS One hundred one pediatric patients were enrolled on a single institutional protocol beginning in 1998 (n = 76) or followed a similar nonprotocol treatment plan (n = 25). CRT (54 Gy) was administered using a 1.0- or 0.5-cm clinical target volume margin. Median age at CRT was 9.50 years (range, 3.20-17.63 years). Patients were followed for 10 years with assessment of hearing, vision, hormone deficiencies, and cognitive performance. RESULTS Intellectual functioning (intelligence quotient) was significantly lower in children treated at a younger age and those who received higher doses to temporal lobes and hippocampi. Black race (-17.77 points, P = .002) and cerebrospinal fluid shunting (-11.52 points, P = .0068) were associated with lower baseline intelligence quotient. Reading scores were lower over time in models incorporating age, shunt, and dose to specific brain structures. Patients treated for growth hormone deficiency within 12 months of CRT had better intelligence and attention outcomes. Among patients with normal baseline vision, the 10-year cumulative incidence of change in visual acuity was 4.00% ± 2.82% and in visual field 10.42% ± 4.48%. Reading scores decreased after treatment (0.7873 points/y, P = .0451) in those with impaired baseline vision. CONCLUSIONS Cognitive outcomes are selectively affected by dose to brain subvolumes, comorbidities of visual deficits, and treatment of endocrinopathy in pediatric craniopharyngioma. Improved treatment selection, normal tissue sparing methods of irradiation, and posttreatment management of endocrinopathy should be considered.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Craniopharyngiomas and ameloblastomas are tumors of epithelial origin, mostly characterized by a benign course, slow growth and for being locally invasive. Some studies highlight the similarity of these neoplasms, especially regarding histopathological aspects. In this context, the aim of the present study was to carry out a systematic literature review correlating the clinical, radiographic, and histopathological aspects of these two tumors. METHODS Searches were conducted at the Pubmed, Periódicos Capes, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science and Scielo databases, according to the following inclusion criteria: publications in English or Spanish, from the 2000s and 2021, comprising case report studies, case series and literature reviews. RESULTS Considering clinical and radiographic aspects, it is evident that craniopharyngiomas and ameloblastomas exhibit few similarities. Histopathologically, however, adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas are the type of tumor that most resembles ameloblastomas, both concerning the formation of palisade epithelial cords and epithelial formations. Regarding to recurrences in cases of craniopharyngioma, it appears that a more radical surgical resection is more related to a lower recurrence rate for both craniopharyngiomas and ameloblastomas. As for the outcome, it was observed that craniopharyngiomas have a greater relationship with possible systemic disorders. CONCLUSIONS This histopathological similarity is related to their origin, since both craniopharyngiomas and ameloblastomas share a relationship with the oral cavity, either partially, as in the case of craniopharyngiomas, or totally, as in ameloblastomas, not comprising the same lesion in different locations. It is important to note that the differential morphogenetic evidence observed herein between these lesions opens up a new field of study aiming at better treatment alternatives in the future.

Abstract
Craniopharyngioma is a congenital brain tumor with clinical characteristics of hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction, increased intracranial pressure, and visual field disorder, among other injuries. Its clinical diagnosis mainly depends on radiological examinations (such as Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging). However, assessing numerous radiological images manually is a challenging task, and the experience of doctors has a great influence on the diagnosis result. The development of artificial intelligence has brought about a great transformation in the clinical diagnosis of craniopharyngioma. This study reviewed the application of artificial intelligence technology in the clinical diagnosis of craniopharyngioma from the aspects of differential classification, prediction of tissue invasion and gene mutation, prognosis prediction, and so on. Based on the reviews, the technical route of intelligent diagnosis based on the traditional machine learning model and deep learning model were further proposed. Additionally, in terms of the limitations and possibilities of the development of artificial intelligence in craniopharyngioma diagnosis, this study discussed the attentions required in future research, including few-shot learning, imbalanced data set, semi-supervised models, and multi-omics fusion.
