Abstract
Lead is a particularly toxic heavy metal that is present above acceptable levels in the water of many countries. This article describes a quick detection method of lead(II) ions using a polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-based ion-selective membrane electrode containing an acridono-crown ether ionophore by potentiometry. The electrochemical cell exhibits a Nernstian response for lead(II) ions between the concentration range of 10−4 to 10−2 M, and can be used in the pH range of 4⁻7. The applicability of this sensor was verified by measuring a multicomponent aqueous sample. Under the given conditions, this electrode is suitable for the selective quantitative analysis of lead(II) ions in the presence of many additional metal ions.

Abstract
A novel approach to prepare homogeneous PbS nanoparticles by phase-transfer method was developed. The preparatory conditions were studied in detail, and the nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-vis spectroscopy. Then a novel lead ion-selective electrode of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane based on these lead sulfide nanoparticles was prepared, and the optimum ratio of components in the membrane was determined. The results indicated that the sensor exhibited a wide concentration range of 1.0×10−5 to 1.0×10−2 mol.L−1. The response time of the electrode was about 10 s, and the optimal pH in which the electrode could be used was from 3.0 to 7.0. Selectivity coefficients indicated that the electrode was selective to the primary ion over the interfering ion. The electrode can be used for at least 3 months without any divergence in potential. It was successfully applied to directly determine lead ions in solution and used as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of lead ions with EDTA.

Abstract
A Sn2+ ion-selective electrode which was prepared with a polymeric membrane based on 6-(4-nitrophenyl)-2,4-diphenyl-3,5-diaza-bicyclo[3.1.0]hex-2-ene (NDDBH) as a ionophore. Effects of experimental parameters such as membrane composition, nature and amount of plasticizer, the amount of additive and concentration of internal solution on the potential response of Sn2+ sensor were investigated. The electrode exhibited a Nernstian slope of 28.8+/-1.1 mV/decade of Sn2+ over a concentration range of 1.0 x 10(-5) to 1.0 x 10(-1) M of Sn2+ in an acidic solution (pH 1). The limit of detection was 4.0 x 10(-6) M. The results show that this electrode can be used in ethanol media until 20% (v/v) concentration without interference. It can be used for more than 6 weeks without any considerable divergence in the potentials. The proposed membrane electrode revealed very good selectivity for Sn(II) ions over a wide variety of other cations and could be used in acidic media. The standard electrode potentials were determined at different temperatures and used to calculate the isothermal coefficient of the electrode. The stability constant (log K(s)) of the Sn(II)-ionophore complex was determined at 25 degrees C by potentiometric titration in mixed aqueous solution. It was used as indicator electrode in potentiometric determination of Sn(II) ion in real samples.

Abstract
Three new tetraoxa-diaza derivatives of 1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclo-octadecane (R-1, R-2 and R-3) and three commercially available crown ethers, 18-crown-6 (18C6), (+)-18-crown-6-tetracarboxilic acid (18C6H4) and 1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclo-octadecane, were investigated to separate the positional isomers of aminophenol, aminobenzoic acid and aminocresol. The running electrolyte, in which the crown ethers were dissolved, was a 50 mM Tris solution adjusted to pH 2.0 with hydrochloric acid. Using 50 mM H3PO4 buffer, whose pH was adjusted to 2.0 with Tris, or only hydrochloric acid solution with the same pH, did not allow good separations for the tested components. The effect of the crown ether concentration on the separation of the 11 positional isomers was studied in the concentration range of 10-50 mM. The best separations were achieved using the 18C6 and the 18C6H4 crown ethers: 9 isomers out of 11 could be separated within one run. The m- and p-aminophenol isomers could not be separated under the investigated experimental conditions. The newly synthesized tetraoxa-diaza crown ether derivatives were only found suitable for the separation of aminobenzoic acid positional isomers. The macrocyclic ring of the tetraoxa-diaza crown ethers was not able to form a stable inclusion complex with the tested positional isomers. Consequently, the aminophenol and aminocresol isomers were not separated, the isomers migrated with the same or very similar velocities.

Abstract
This paper presents experimental and theoretical data regarding the design, characterization and analytical applications of a non-expensive, liquid-membrane ion-selective electrode for Pb2+ ions. The membrane is a solution of the active complex formed by Pb2+ ions with dibenzo-18-crown-6-ionophore (DB-[18]-C-6) extracted in propylene carbonate (PC). The successful application of the developed electrode for the determination of Pb2+ ions in aqueos solution samples by direct potentiometry and potentiometric titration is presented. For the presented analytical results, there are insignificant systematic errors between the direct potentiometric method with the developed ion-selective electrode and atomic absorption spectrometry. .

Abstract
Dithiodibenzoic (DTB) acid and mercaptobenzoic (MB) acid were studied to characterize their abilities as modifier agents for lead(II) sensors. For both sensors, the best results were obtained with modified carbon paste electrodes with 24.1% of ligand. The pH influence on the potentiometric response was studied. The selectivity coefficients for both modified electrodes were tabulated. A potentiometric sensor based on DTB acid exhibited a more sensitive and selective response to lead ions than an MB electrode. The limits of detection for the DTB and MB electrodes were very similar, 5.01 x 10(-8) M and 3.98 x 10(-8) M, respectively, for lead(II) activity. The DTB sensor was applied to lead(II) ion determination in real samples and as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titrations. Natural and commercial humic acids were titrated using the DTB electrode to estimate the stability constant between these organic compounds and the lead(II) ions with successful results.
