Abstract
AbstractThe features of molecular and electronic structures of complex compounds derived from azopyrazolone derivatives are reviewed. Despite the wide use of metal-containing azopyrazolone dyes for more than 1.5 centuries, little information on their molecular structure is found. Our recent researches allowed the introduction of new coordination modes of azopyrazolone derivatives at complexation with metals. Together with traditional bi- and tridentate coordination, the possibility of an N pyrazolone atom to be involved in coordination was also found. As a result, polymeric or polynuclear complexes were isolated and described by X-ray analysis, NMR, EPR, IR, and UV spectroscopy. The analysis of the interatomic distances in the organic anions indicated that azopyrazolone derivatives do not undergo significant azo-hydrazo tautomeric transformations at ionization and complexation despite strong shifts of the absorption bands in their IR and UV-VIS spectra.

Abstract
A naked-eye colored chemodosimeteric probes 4a-f, based on Schiff-azo dye conjugates were synthesized and characterized. All compounds 4a-f exhibited excellent selectivity and high sensitivity in absorbance toward detection of Fe3+ in alcoholic solutions under neutral pH conditions. The detection limit of the probe was shown to be up to 0.05 ppm. A simple paper test strip system for the rapid monitoring of Fe3+ was developed, indicating their convenient use in environmental samples. Electrochemical analysis of metal free conjugates and iron chelated probes confirmed the chelation of ligands. Graphical Abstract.

Abstract
5-(2,3-Dimethyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5-one azo)-2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone (HL) and its metal complexes with copper(II) (1), cobalt(II) (2) and nickel(II) (3) are synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. The thermal properties of the ligand (HL) and its metal complexes (1-3) are discussed. The thermal activation energies of decomposition (Ea) of HL and its metal complexes with Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) are found to be 48.76, 36.83, 30.59 and 40.45 kJ/mol, respectively. The frequency and temperature dependence of ac conductivity, dielectric constants for HL and its complexes (1-3) are investigated in the temperature range 300-356 K and frequency range 0.1-100 kHz. Both of the ac conductivity and the values of the thermal activation energy for conduction, as well as the dielectric properties of the complexes of HL are found to depend on the nature of the metallic ions. The values of the thermal activation energies of electrical conductivity decrease with increasing the value of test frequency. The small polarons tunneling (SPT) is the dominant conduction mechanism for the ligand (HL), while for complex (2) the overlapping large tunneling model (OLPT) is the dominant conduction mechanism. The correlated barrier hopping (CBH) is the dominant conduction mechanism for both of the complexes (1) and (3).

Abstract
In the crystal of the title compound, C15H11ClN2O, the molecules are linked by C—H⋯O and weak C—H⋯π interactions. The chlorophenyl and phenyl rings are twisted with respect to the central pyrazolone ring, making dihedral angles of 18.23 (8) and 8.35 (8)°, respectively. The N—N and C=O bond lengths are comparable to those reported for pyrazolone compounds.

Abstract
A highly La(III) ion-selective PVC membrane sensor based on N'-(1-pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-2-furohydrazide (NPYFH) as an excellent sensing material was successfully developed. The electrode shows a good selectivity for La(III) ion with respect to most common cations including alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. The proposed sensor exhibits a wide linear response with slope of 19.2 +/- 0.6 mV per decade over the concentration range of 1.0 x 10(-6) - 1.0 x 10(-1) M, and a detection limit of 7.0 x 10(-7) M of La(III) ions. The sensor response is independent of pH in the range of 3.5-10.0. The proposed electrode was applied as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of La(III) ion with EDTA.

Abstract
In this work, a novel La(III) membrane sensor based on 8-amino-N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)naphthylamine (AIP) is presented. This electrode reveals good selectivity for La(3+) over a wide variety of lanthanides metal ions. Theoretical calculations and conductance study of AIP to lanthanum and some other metal ions were carried out and confirmed selectivity toward La(III) ions. The electrode comprises 7% AIP, 30% PVC, 61% NPOE and 2% KTpClPB. The sensor displays a linear dynamic range between 1.0 x 10(-7) and 1.0 x 10(-1) M, with a nice Nernstian slope of 20.3+/-0.3 mV per decade and a detection limit of 8.0 x 10(-8) M. The potentiometric response is independent of pH in the range of 4.0-9.0. The proposed sensor posses the advantage of short response time, and especially, very good selectivity towards a large number of cations, such as Sm(III), Ce(III, Pr(III), Yb(III) and Hg(II), low detection limit and wide linear dynamic range in comparison with former ones. The electrode can be used for at least seven weeks without any considerable divergence in the potentials. It was used as an indicator electrode in the potentiometric titration of La(III) ions with EDTA. The sensor was applied to the determination of La(III) ions concentration in binary mixtures. It was also applied for the determination of fluoride ions in mouth wash preparations.

Abstract
We have developed a highly La(III)-selective PVC membrane electrode based on a hexaaza macrocycle, 8,16-dimethyl-6,14-diphenyl-2,3,4:10,11,12-dipyridine-1,3,5,9,11,13-hexaazacyclohexadeca-3,5,8,11,13,16-hexaene [Bzo2Me2Pyo2(16)-hexaeneN6] (I) as membrane carrier, dibutylbutyl phosphonate (DBBP) as solvent mediator and sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB) as lipophilic additive. The best performance was given by the membrane of macrocycle I having a composition 10:260:5:120 (I:DBBP:NaTPB:PVC). The electrode exhibits a Nernstian response to La(III) ion in the concentration range 1.0x10(-1)-7.94x10(-7) M with a slope of 19.8+/-0.2 mV/decade of concentration and a detection limit of 5.62x10(-7) M. The response time of the sensor is 12 s and it can be used over a period of 4 months with good reproducibility. The electrode works well over a pH range of 2.5-10.0 and in partially non-aqueous medium with up to 30% organic content. The sensor was also used as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of La(III) ions with EDTA and for determining La(III) concentration in real samples.
