Abstract
Trityl ethers are chemoselectively deprotected to the corresponding alcohols in high yields by a catalytic amount of indium tribromide in aqueous acetonitrile. The method is compatible with various functional groups such as acetonides, acetates, benzoates, olefins, carbamates, esters and ethers present in the substrate.

Abstract
Convergent synthesis of two trisaccharides related to the cytotoxic triterpenoid saponin isolated from Pithecellobium lucidum is reported. The trisaccharides are synthesized in the form of their propargyl glycosides to leave the scope for further glycoconjugate formation through various multi-component reactions. A simple protecting group manipulation is followed using commercially available monosaccharides, D-glucose, D-xylose, D-fucose and L-rhamnose. H(2)SO(4) immobilized on silica is used as the Brönsted acid source for the N-iodosuccinimide-mediated thioglycoside activation for stereoselective glycosylations and proved to be a better choice over traditional Lewis acid catalysts such as TMSOTf and TfOH.

Abstract
A series of 2 ',3 '-isopropylidene and 5 '-trityl-protected alpha-indole and alpha/beta-benzimidazole and imidazole ribonucleosides were deprotected with different acids. Selectivity was achieved for 5 '-versus 2 ',3 '- deprotection by using formic acid in the alpha-indole ribonucleoside series. Treatment of alpha-indole ribonucleosides with a mixture of formic acid and ether at room temperature afforded 2 ',3 '-deprotected alpha-ribonucleosides, whereas treatment of the alpha-benzimidazole ribonucleosides with the same acid afforded the 5 '-deprotected ribonucleoside without any 2 ', 3 '-deprotected products. The structures of these ribonucleosides were elucidated with 2D (NOESY, COSY, and HMQC) NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract
A solid-phase extraction (SPE)/gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) method was developed for analysing residual succinic acid in nucleoside derivatives to be used in oligonucleotide synthesis. Use of a SPE protocol, enabled most of the derivatives to be trapped, thereby creating eluates enriched in succinic acid. GC-MS was used to quantify the amount of residual succinic acid in four different nucleoside preparations, with succinate concentrations varying from 0.18 to 0.24% (w/w). The within-day repeatability of the method was found to be 1.25% RSD. A linear relationship was observed between the amount of succinic acid in the sample and the GC-MS peak area, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9997 in the concentration interval 0.05-2.5% (w/w). Recoveries were measured by the addition of internal standards to working solutions and varied between 99.8 and 102.6%.

Abstract
Terminal isopropylidene acetals are selectively cleaved to the corresponding 1,2-diols in good to excellent yields in 6-24 h at room temperature by using the 'HClO4.SiO2' reagent system. Likewise, trityl ethers are readily cleaved to the corresponding alcohols in good to excellent yields within 2-3 h at room temperature. Work-up involves merely filtration of the reagent followed by purification of the crude product.

Abstract
The binding modes of a series of molecules, containing the glucosamine (1-->6) myo-inositol structural motif, into the ATP binding site of the catalytic subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) have been analysed using molecular docking. These calculations predict that the presence of a phosphate group at the non-reducing end in pseudodisaccharide and pseudotrisaccharide structures properly orientate the molecule into the binding site and that pseudotrisaccharide structures present the best shape complementarity. Therefore, pseudodisaccharides and pseudotrisaccharides have been synthesised from common intermediates using effective synthetic strategies. On the basis of this synthetic chemistry, the feasibility of constructing small pseudotrisaccharide libraries on solid-phase using the same intermediates has been explored. The results from the biological evaluation of these molecules provide additional support to an insulin-mediated signalling system which involves the intermediacy of inositolphosphoglycans as putative insulin mediators.

Abstract
Amylose was selectively alkylated in the 2,3-O position of each anhydroglucose unit after trityl protection of the 6-OH groups. Alkyl iodides of varying chain length (C(2), C(5), C(8)) were coupled to amylose, and degrees of substitution (DSs) were varied between 0.3 and 1.8, as assessed by NMR analysis. Increasing amounts of methyl groups per anhydroglucose unit increased solubility in nonaqueous media, while at the same time reducing the ability of modified amylose to form a complex with iodine. The tendency to form inclusion complexes with the surfactant N-dodecyl pyridinium bromide decreased in the order beta-cyclodextrin >> amylose approximately solubilized starch, indicating that the frozen macrocycle of beta-cyclodextrin was the most efficient inclusion host. Introduction of the bulky trityl group abolished the helical amylose conformation, which is not readily reassumed in the presence of hydrophobic substitution of the C2 and C3 positions. These results indicated that a polar outer surface is necessary but not sufficient for the formation of a stable amylose helix.

Abstract
Silica gel-supported ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN-SiO2) was found effective for rapid and selective cleavage of trityl (Tr), monomethoxytrityl (MMTr), and dimethoxytrityl (DMTr) groups from protected nucleosides and nucleotides under mild conditions. Efficiency of deprotections depended upon the stability of the resultant carbocationic species: DMTr+ > MMTr+ > Tr+. Use of a catalytic amount of this solid-supported reagent can also efficiently and selectively remove the tert-butyldimethylsilyl or the triisopropylsilyl group from a primary hydroxyl functionality in di- or trisilyl ethers of ribonucleosides. A comparative study of deprotection reactions by utilization of CAN alone or CAN-SiO2 indicates a remarkable increase in the rate of the reactions involving a solid support. The mechanism of electron-transfer processes is proposed for the use of CAN-SiO2 in the removal of these protective groups from organic molecules.
