Abstract
Infrared spectra of completely size-selected protonated water clusters H+(H2O)n are reported for clusters ranging from n=15 to 100. The behavior of the dangling OH stretch bands shows that the hydrogen bond structure in H+(H2O)n is uniquely different to that of (H2O)n up to the size of n=100, at least. This finding indicates that the presence of an excess proton creates a characteristic morphology in the hydrogen bond network architecture of more than 100 surrounding water molecules.

Abstract
The photodissociation dynamics of amorphous solid water (ASW) films and polycrystalline ice (PCI) films at a substrate temperature of 100 K have been investigated by analyzing the time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectra of photofragment hydrogen atoms at 157 and 193 nm. For PCI films, the TOF spectrum recorded at 157 nm could be characterized by a combination of three different (fast, medium, and slow) Maxwell-Boltzmann energy distributions, while that measured at 193 nm can be fitted in terms of solely a fast component. For ASW films, the TOF spectra measured at 157 and 193 nm were both dominated by the slow component, indicating that the photofragment H atoms are accommodated to the substrate temperature by collisions. H atom formation at 193 nm is attributed to the photodissociation of water species on the ice surface, while at 157 nm it is ascribable to a mixture of surface and bulk photodissociations. Atmospheric implications in the high latitude mesopause region of the Earth are discussed.

Abstract
Beginning in the mid-1980s, a number of innovative experimental studies on ionic clusters emerged from the laboratory of Yuan T. Lee combining infrared laser spectroscopy and tandem mass spectrometry. Coupled with modern electronic structure calculations, this research explored many facets of ionic clusters including solvation, structure, and dynamics. These efforts spawned a resurgence in gas-phase cluster spectroscopy. This paper will focus on the major areas of research initiated by the Lee group and how these studies stimulated and influenced others in what is currently a vibrant and growing field.

Abstract
This paper describes a systematic study on the clathrate structure of (H+)(H2O)21 using tandem mass spectrometry, vibrational predissociation spectroscopy, Monte Carlo simulations, and density functional theory calculations. We produced (H+)(H2O)n from a continuous corona-discharged supersonic expansion and observed three anomalies simultaneously at the cluster temperature near 150 K, including (1) the peak at n=21 is more intense than its neighboring ions in the mass spectrum, (2) the size-dependent dissociation fractions show a distinct drop for the 21-mer, and (3) the infrared spectrum of (H+)(H2O)21 exhibits only a single feature at 3699 cm(-1), corresponding to the free-OH stretching of three-coordinated water molecules. Interestingly, the anomalies appear or disappear together with cluster temperature, indicating close correlation of these three observations. The observations, together with Monte Carlo simulations and density functional theory calculations, corroborate the notion for the formation of a distorted pentagonal dodecahedral (5(12)) cage with a H2O molecule in the cage and a H3O+ ion on the surface for this "magic number" water cluster ion. The dodecahedral cage melts at higher temperatures, as evidenced by the emergence of a free-OH stretching feature at 3717 cm(-1) for the two-coordinated water in (H+)(H2O)21 produced in a warmer molecular beam. Extension of this study to larger clusters strongly suggests that the experimentally observed isomer of (H+)(H2O)28 is most likely to consist of a distorted protonated pentakaidecahedral (5(12)6(3)) cage enclosing two neutral water molecules.

Abstract
Size-dependent development of the hydrogen bond network structure in large sized clusters of protonated water, H+(H2O)n (n = 4 to 27), was probed by infrared spectroscopy of OH stretches. Spectral changes with cluster size demonstrate that the chain structures at small sizes (n less, similar 10) develop into two-dimensional net structures (approximately 10 < n < 21), and then into nanometer-scaled cages (n >/= 21).

Abstract
Computational studies have been used to examine the structural and energetic effects of adding small numbers of water molecules to ammonia, methylamine, dimethylamine, and trimethylamine, and their respective ammoniums ions using the effective fragment potential method. Distinct structural effects with only a few fragment water molecules are revealed. The complexity of structures increases with the number of water fragments with the water fragments forming complex networks. Structural and energetic effects are used to probe the so-called anomalous basicity effect of ammonia and the methylamines on going from the gas phase to aqueous solution.
