Case report: Magnetic resonance imaging in primary cervical lymphoma: the role in diagnosis and follow-up

Sonographic findings of uterine cervical lymphoma manifesting as multinodular lesions

Uterine cervical lymphoma, a very rare condition, has rarely been reported in sonographic findings in the English medical literature. We describe a case of uterine cervical lymphoma which was detected initially and depicted on sonography as a multinodular smoothly lobulated heterogeneous mass with some posterior enhancements.

FDG-PET Is Useful in Staging and Follow-up of Primary Uterine Cervical Lymphoma

A 35-year old woman presented with vaginal bleeding. She had a normal gynecologic examination and Papanicolaou test. A CT scan of the pelvis showed a cervical mass, which on biopsy proved to be B-cell lymphoma. PET before preoperative staging demonstrated a large area of increased FDG uptake in the pelvis, corresponding to the mass seen on the CT scan. There were no other abnormal F-18 FDG avid sites. The patient received chemotherapy followed by total abdominal hysterectomy. Histopathology was consistent with large B-cell lymphoma of the uterine cervix. Posttherapy CT scan and PET scan showed no evidence of active and or residual disease.

Case report: appearance of uterine cervical lymphoma on MRI: a case report and review of the literature

We present the appearances on CT and MRI of a case of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) of uterine cervix. A 41-year-old woman presented with a short history of urinary symptoms and menorrhagia. Previous cervical smears were normal. Clinically, the cervix was replaced by a huge ulcerating mass. Biopsy showed malignant high grade B-cell NHL. T(2) weighted MRI of the pelvis showed a 12 cm intermediate signal mass replacing the cervix, with infiltration of the vagina and left parametrium, and bilateral internal iliac lymphadenopathy. Whole body CT imaging showed lymphoma in the kidneys and pancreas, the latter associated with biliary obstruction. The patient is in complete remission 7 months post chemotherapy, radiotherapy and stenting of biliary stricture. The success of the cervical cancer screening programme has lead to a reduction in the number of cases of advanced cervical carcinoma and the presence of an unusually large homogeneous cervical tumour, with relatively scant necrosis should prompt suspicion of a less common histology such as NHL.

MR imaging of the uterine cervix: imaging-pathologic correlation

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is useful not only for preoperative staging of gynecologic malignancies but also for prediction of the histopathologic features of a variety of intrapelvic tumors. Familiarity with the specific imaging findings that have been reported for the uterine cervix is a goal of radiologists. The typical MR imaging findings of uterine cervical lesions correspond to the histopathologic features. These lesions can be categorized as epithelial neoplasms, nonepithelial neoplasms, and nonneoplastic diseases. Cervical carcinoma accounts for most cases of malignant lesions and is staged by using the classification system established by the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. MR imaging allows differentiation between endophytic and exophytic growth and between normal and abnormal findings after hysterectomy and irradiation. Other epithelial neoplasms of the uterine cervix include adenoma malignum, which is a special type of cervical adenocarcinoma, as well as carcinoid tumor and malignant melanoma. Nonepithelial neoplasms of the uterine cervix include malignant lymphoma and leiomyoma. Nonneoplastic diseases of the uterine cervix include cervical pregnancy, cervicitis, nabothian cysts, polyps, and endometriosis.

A case of uterine cervix lymphoma with selective embolization after angiography is described. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were carried out and surgery was avoided.
