Abstract
To expand the range of donor atoms known to stabilize 4fn5d1 Ln(II) rare-earth metal (Ln) ions beyond the C, N, and O first row main group donor atoms, the Ln(III) sulfur donor terphenylthiolate iodide complexes, LnIII(SAriPr6)2I (AriPr6 = C6H3-2,6-(C6H2-2,4,6-iPr3)2, Ln = La, Nd) were reduced to form LnII(SAriPr6)2 complexes. These Ln(II) species were structurally characterized, analyzed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and compared to Tm(SAriPr6)2, which was synthesized from TmI2(DME)3.

Abstract
A series of group 1 hydrocarbon-soluble donor free aluminates [AM(t BuDHP)(TMP)Al(i Bu)2 ] (AM=Li, Na, K, Rb) have been synthesised by combining an alkali metal dihydropyridyl unit [(2-t BuC5 H5 N)AM)] containing a surrogate hydride (sp3 C-H) with [(i Bu)2 Al(TMP)]. These aluminates have been characterised by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. While the lithium aluminate forms a monomer, the heavier alkali metal aluminates exist as polymeric chains propagated by non-covalent interactions between the alkali metal cations and the alkyldihydropyridyl units. Solvates [(THF)Li(t BuDHP)(TMP)Al(i Bu)2 ] and [(TMEDA)Na(t BuDHP)(TMP)Al(i Bu)2 ] have also been crystallographically characterised. Theoretical calculations show how the dispersion forces tend to increase on moving from Li to Rb, as opposed to the electrostatic forces of stabilization, which are orders of magnitude more significant. Having unique structural features, these bimetallic compounds can be considered as starting points for exploring unique reactivity trends as alkali-metal-aluminium hydride surrog[ATES].

Abstract
Expanding knowledge of low valent aluminium chemistry, rubidium and caesium aluminyls are reported to complete the group 1 (Li-Cs) set of metal aluminyls. Both compounds crystallize as a contacted dimeric pair supported by M⋯π(arene) interactions with a pronounced twist between aluminyl units. Density functional theory calculations show symmetrical bonding between the M and Al atoms, with an Al centred lone-pair donating into vacant Rb and Cs orbitals. Interestingly, despite their structural similarity the Cs aluminyl enables C-H bond activation of benzene, but not the Rb aluminyl reflecting the importance of the alkali metal in these heterobimetallic systems.

The Li and In atoms are in distorted tetra-hedral N2O2 and C2O2 bonding environments, respectively. The Li atom is further chelated by a tmeda group, yielding a spiro-cyclic structure.

Abstract
A series of two-coordinate thiolate complexes [Cu(SAr*)L] was synthesized as possible reactants in forming analogues of the active site of Mo/Cu-containing carbon monoxide dehydrogenase. Complexes with L = PPh(3) (1), 2,6-lutidine (2), and the N-heterocyclic carbene Pr(i)(2)NHCMe(2) (3) have been prepared by the reaction of [CuCl(PPh(3))(3)] (1) or [CuBr(SMe(2))] (2, 3) with ligand L and the exceptionally sterically encumbered ligand Ar*S = 2,6-bis(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl)benzenethiolate(1-). The reaction of [CuBr(SMe(2))] with the thiolate in the absence of added L afforded trinuclear [Cu(3)(SAr*)(2)Br] (7). The carbene complex (3) undergoes Cu-C bond insertion with sulfur to form the thiourea complex [Cu(SAr*)(Pr(i)(2)Me(2)ImS)] (4). The complexes [Cu(Ar*)L] with L = tetrahydrothiophene (5) and 2,6-lutidine (6) were obtained by reaction of Ar*Li(OEt(2)) with CuBr/L. These species did not undergo clean Cu-C bond insertion with sulfur transfer agents; the disulfide Ar*SSCH(2)Ph (9) was isolated from the reaction of 6 with (PhCH(2)S)(2)S. The structures of all complexes and 9 were determined. Whereas 5 and 6 are strictly two-coordinate with linear C-Cu-L angles, 1-4 are quasi-two-coordinate because of weak 3d-C(ppi) interactions with a phenyl group, leading to nonlinear structures (S-Cu-L = 135-164 degrees).

Abstract
The syntheses and characterizations of a family of novel heteroleptic magnesium amide thiolates are presented. The compounds are synthesized by ligand redistribution chemistry involving reactions of equimolar amounts of magnesium amides and magnesium thiolates. Utilization of the smaller thiolates [Mg(SPh)2]n and [Mg(S-2,4,6-iPr3C6H2)2]n results in the isolation of dimeric species, [Mg(THF)(N(SiMe3)2)(mu-SR)]2 (R = Ph (1), 2,4,6-iPr3C6H2 (2)), with four-coordinate metal centers and bridging thiolate functions. The sterically more encumbered thiolate S-2,4,6-tBu3C6H2 induces the formation of the four-coordinate, monomeric species Mg(THF)2(N(SiMe3)2)(S-2,4,6-tBu3C6H2) (3)). Careful choice of reaction conditions allows the successful syntheses of pure heteroleptic compounds; however, it remains difficult to obtain the compounds in high yields, since a tendency toward product symmetrization and ligand redistribution under re-formation of the starting materials is prevalent. One of these symmetrized products is also included in this report: the dimeric, four-coordinate magnesium thiolate [Mg-(THF)(S-2,4,6-tBu3C6H2)(mu-S-2,4,6-tBu3C6H2)]2 (4), isolated as the product of the reaction between [Mg-(N(SiMe3)2)2]2 and Mg(THF)2(S-2,4,6-tBu3C6H2)2. All compounds were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and X-ray crystallography. Crystal data obtained with Mo K alpha (lambda = 0.710 73 A) radiation are as follows. 1: C16H31MgNOSSi2, a = 11.2100(1) A, b = 17.4512(3) A, c = 11.2999(2) A, beta = 97.952(1) degrees, V = 2189.32(6) A3, Z = 4, monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n, R1 (all data) = 0.0934. 2: C25H49MgNOSSi2, a = 11.1691(1) A, b = 11.0578(1) A, c = 26.0671(4) A, beta = 99.906(1) degrees, V = 3171.44(6) A3, Z = 4, monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c, R1 (all data) = 0.0557. 3: C36H71MgNO3SSi2, a = 42.8293(16) A, b = 10.9737(5) A, c = 16.8305(7) A, beta = 98.755(3) degrees, V = 7818.1(6) A3, Z = 8, monoclinic, space group C2/c, R1 (all data) = 0.1331. 4: C80H132Mg2O2S4, a = 18.8806(2) A, b = 19.3850(2) A, c = 27.3012(4) A, beta = 97.250(1) degrees, V = 9912.4(2) A3, Z = 4, monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n, R1 (all data) = 0.1023.
