Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the Intensity of Collaboration between the intensive care professionals of a third level hospital. METHOD Descriptive cross-sectional study with an analytical approach. SETTING 6 intensive care units of a third level hospital. SAMPLE nurses and doctors. Consecutive type non-probabilistic sampling. DATA COLLECTION sociodemographic, economic, motivation and professional satisfaction variables, and the intensity of collaboration using the "Scale of Intensity of Interprofessional Collaboration in Health." RESULTS A total of 102 health professionals (91 nurses and 11 doctors) were included. The mean overall Intensity of Collaboration (IoC) was moderate. Men showed higher scores in all factors (p<.05). The IoC global score was higher in the group of professionals with ≤10 years of experience (p=.043) and those who were highly satisfied with the profession (p=.037). Physicians presented higher scores in the global IdC (p=.037) and in the Collaboration mean (p=.020) independently in the multivariate models. A negative linear relationship (rho: -0,202, p=.042) was observed between age and the overall IoC score. Professionals aged ≤30years reported a higher perception of Shared Activities (p=.031). Negative linear relationships were observed between years of experience and total IoC score (rho: -0,202, p=.042) and patients' Perception score (rho: -0.241, p=0.015). The research activity also showed to be a variable related to a greater degree of Collaboration at a global level and in some of the factors (p<.05). The scale of IoC obtained a Cronbach's α of 0,9. CONCLUSIONS The intensity of interprofessional collaboration in ICUs is moderate. Professionals with experience of ≤10 years, a higher level of satisfaction and participation in research activities show a greater intensity of collaboration. Doctors perceive collaboration more intensely than nurses. All factors contribute equally to the internal consistency of the questionnaire.

Abstract
Collaboration between physicians and nurses is essential to healthcare delivery and is associated with high-quality patient care, greater patient satisfaction, and better health outcomes. Hence, it is imperative that doctors and nurses have a particular set of interprofessional collaboration skills. This descriptive cross-sectional study assessed how medical students in the pre-clinical and clinical years perceived attitudes toward collaboration between physicians and nurses in a hospital setting. The Jefferson Scale of Attitude toward Physician-nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC) was reverse-translated into Arabic for the current study. The results showed a total JSAPNC mean score of 46.55, lower than other medical students in other universities. In general, the results of the study showed no significant difference in the total JSAPNC score among medical students when analyzed according to age, clinical exposure, and year level, except in the two factors of JSAPNC: shared education and teamwork (p = 0.038) and caring as opposed to curing (p = 0.043). The findings of this study suggest the necessity of integrating interprofessional education (IPE) across the medical school curriculum because, as future physicians, medical students would be well equipped to treat their patients in partnership with their nursing colleagues.

Abstract
To investigate interdisciplinary cooperation and communication among doctors and nurses along with its role in improving the quality of their professional life, a cross-sectional survey was designed. The study was carried out from February to April 2021 through the application of an anonymous, structured, self-completed, closed-ended questionnaire in a convenience sample consisting of 110 healthcare professionals currently working in the intensive care units (ICUs) of three distinct hospitals (response rate: 76.4%). It was observed that medical personnel manifested a more positive stance toward interdisciplinary collaboration than nursing while women seemed to believe more than men that nurses' administrative skills are not valued enough by doctors. Nurses with limited work experience reported that doctors show scarce respect to nurses in the presence of patients' parents and companions while male nurses acknowledged more the provision of multidimensional care given to patients. Occupational stress, professional satisfaction, and burnout levels were mainly moderate across study participants.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the related factors associated with medical students' attitudes toward team collaboration. METHODS This cross-sectional study targeted medical students, residents, and doctors. A survey was conducted from 2016 to 2017 using the Japanese version of the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Interprofessional Collaboration (JeffSATIC-J), which evaluated "working relationship" and "accountability." We analyzed 2409 questionnaire responses with JeffSATIC-J items and the gender item. Analysis of variance was used for factors associated with the JeffSATIC-J score and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient for the relationship between educational intervention and the JeffSATIC-J score. RESULTS First-year students' scores were the highest (F(2, 2045) = 13.42 to 18.87, p < .001), and female students' scores were significantly higher than those of male students (F(1, 2045) = 21.16 to 31.10, p < .001). For residents' scores, the institution was not a significant variable. Female "accountability" scores were significantly higher than those of males (F (1,108) = 4.95, p = .03). Gender was not a significant variable for doctors' scores. Sixth-year students' scores were significantly correlated with the length of clinical clerkship (r(5)=.78 to .96, p<.05), with the exception of females' "working relationship" scores. The medical school with the highest JeffSATIC-J scores had the longest clinical clerkship in the community. CONCLUSIONS These results indicate that long-term clinical clerkship in the community at higher grades is important in improving medical students' attitudes toward team collaboration. A qualitative study is required to confirm our findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Collaboration between physicians and nurses has been shown to lead to better patient outcomes. However, studies have shown differing physicians' and nurses' responses to survey questions about physician-nurse collaboration. We surveyed physicians and nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic for their attitudes toward collaboration. METHODS In August 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, we surveyed physicians and nurses throughout an urban, academic teaching hospital over a consecutive twenty-day period using the validated Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. Anonymous surveys were obtained from nurses and physicians on duty at the hospital. Demographic data from each survey included gender, age, profession of nurse or physician, degree, and specialization. RESULTS Four hundred and fifteen (415) unique paper surveys were collected from 308 nurses and 107 physicians over the twenty-day period. Five nurses and two physicians declined to complete the survey (1.6%). Using the Independent t-test of Means, total score and sub-scores were analyzed. Physicians and nurses scored the paper surveys in a similar manner. No statistically significant differences between the scores of physicians and nurses were found for any of the fifteen Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration questions, except for the youngest age group (20-29-year-old) having a significantly more positive response to doctors being the dominant authority on all health matters (p-value=0.011). Gender and nursing degree did not make a significant difference. Surgical Specialties (167), Medical Specialties (196), Intensive Care Unit (21), and the Emergency Department (43) survey responses did not differ significantly from each other. CONCLUSION One and a half years into the Covid-19 pandemic, physicians and nurses at an urban, academic teaching hospital were in agreement with their responses on the validated Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. Our data may reflect a catalytic and positive effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on physician and nurse attitudes toward collaboration.

Abstract
Clinical pathways can improve the quality of health services. The effectiveness and impact of implementing clinical pathways are controversial. The preparation of clinical pathways not only enacts therapeutic guidelines but requires mutual agreement in accordance with the roles, duties, and contributions of each profession in the team. This study aimed to investigate the perception of interprofessional collaboration practices and the impact of clinical pathway implementation on collaborative and Defined Daily Dose (DDD) prophylactic antibiotics per 100 bed-days in orthopedic surgery. The Collaborative Practice Assessment Tool (CPAT) questionnaire was used as a tool to measure healthcare’ perceptions of collaborative practice. The clinical pathway (CP) in this study was adapted from existing CPs published by the Indonesian Orthopaedic Association (Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Orthopaedi dan Traumatologi Indonesia, PABOI) and was commended by local domestic surgeons and orthopedic bodies. We then compared post-implementation results with pre-implementation clinical pathway data using ANCOVA to explore our categorical data and its influence towards CPAT response. ANOVA was then employed for aggregated DDD per 100 bed-days to compare pre and post intervention. The results showed that the relationships among members were associated with the working length. Six to ten years of working had a significantly better relationship among members than those who have worked one to five years. Interestingly, pharmacists’ leadership score was significantly lower than other professions. The clinical pathway implementation reduced barriers in team collaboration, improved team coordination and organization, and reduced third-generation cephalosporin use for prophylaxis in surgery (pre: 59 DDD per 100 bed-days; post: 28 DDD per 100 bed-days). This shows that the clinical pathway could benefit antibiotic stewardship in improving antibiotic prescription, therefore reducing the incidence of resistant bacteria.

Abstract
Empathy and lifelong learning are two professional competencies that depend on the four principles of professionalism: humanism, altruism, excellence, and accountability. In occupational health, there is evidence that empathy prevents work distress. However, in the case of lifelong learning, the evidence is still scarce. In addition, recent studies suggest that the development of lifelong learning varies in physicians and nurses and that it is sensitive to the influence of cultural stereotypes associated with professional roles. This study was performed with the purpose of determining the specific role that empathy and lifelong learning play in the reduction in occupational stress. This study included a sample composed by 40 physicians and 40 nurses with high dedication to clinical work in ambulatory consultations from a public healthcare institution in Paraguay. Somatization, exhaustion, and work alienation, described as indicators of occupational stress, were used as dependent variables, whereas empathy, lifelong learning, gender, discipline, professional experience, civil status, and family burden were used as potential predictors. Three multiple regression models explained 32% of the variability of somatization based on a linear relationship with empathy, lifelong learning, and civil status; 73% of the variability of exhaustion based on a linear relationship with empathy, somatization, work alienation, and discipline; and 62% of the variability of work alienation based on a linear relationship with lifelong learning, exhaustion, and discipline. These findings indicate that empathy and lifelong learning play important roles in the prevention of work distress in physicians and nurses. However, this role varies by discipline.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As the main force in the development of healthcare, nurses have the longest contact time with patients in clinical practice, their perception of the hospital ethical climates affecting nurses' attitudes and related ethical issues. hospital ethical climates have become an essential environmental factor for nurses to make and implement ethical decisions. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the current status of nurses' perception of the hospital ethical climates and the nurses' organizational citizenship behavior, exploring the impact of the nurse's perception of the hospital ethical climates on the nurses' organizational citizenship behavior. METHODS A cross-sectional survey adopted, random sampling and cluster sampling were used to select 624 nurses from August 2019 to February 2020. The hospital ethical climate scale and organizational citizenship behavior scale were used as the questionnaire. The data was analyzed by SPSS 21.0 software. On-the-job clinical nurses who had been employed in the hospital for more than 1 year were eligible. Nurses who were administratively punished by the hospital or health administrative authorities were excluded. RESULTS The average scores of hospital ethical climates were 4.30 (standard deviation: 0.44), with organizational citizenship behavior 4.42 (standard deviation: 0.42). The correlation coefficient between nurses' perception of hospital ethical climates and organizational citizenship behavior was 0.359 (P < .01). Nurses' perception of the relationship between managers, patients and nurses could explain 23.1% of altruistic toward colleagues; Nurses' perception of the relationship between nurses, hospital, doctors could explain 21.2% of organizational identification. Nurses' perception of the relationship between hospital, nurses and doctors could explain 12.3% of conscientiousness; Nurses' perception of the relationship between managers, doctors could explain 7.6% of interpersonal harmony. Nurses' perception of the relationship between managers, nurses and doctors could explain 6.6% of protection company resources. CONCLUSION There is a correlation between nurses' perceptions of hospital ethical climate and organizational citizenship behavior, nurses' perceptions of hospital ethical climate influencing nurses' organizational citizenship behavior in different ways. Managers should focus on the changes of nurses' perception of hospital ethical climates, to promote the nurse to make more beneficial behavior to the organization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Failures in teamwork are a common reason for adverse medical events. The goals of this study are to evaluate attitudes toward teamwork among an interprofessional group of health professionals and to analyze the effectiveness of an educational intervention with high-fidelity clinical simulation to improve these attitudes. METHOD An educational intervention was developed that used a 6-hour session that included three simulated clinical cases. The Attitudes Toward Health Care Teams Scale was used for assessment. Mean difference before and after the intervention was calculated with the Wilcoxon test. RESULTS Positive attitude toward teamwork after completion of the training activities was measured. The health care professionals who showed the most positive attitude toward teamwork were physicians (93.92, SD = 6.58) and resident physicians (95.01, SD = 6.33). The greatest increase was observed among orderlies (p < .001) and nursing assistants (p < .001). CONCLUSION The use of clinical simulation for interprofessional training of health care professionals showed a positive effect on attitudes toward teamwork. Abstract
Learning process evaluation of Interprofessional Education (IPE) was crucial to determine the implementation process’s success. The evaluation can be done by researching student attitudes in IPE activities. Research on students' attitudes in medical education and pharmacy study programs is expected to be a guideline for the IPE curriculum drafting team at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung, Semarang, to develop future IPE learning activities. The study design was observational analytic with a cross-sectional method involving all medical and pharmacy students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung who had participated in a Small Group Discussion with TB management and met the inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out in August 2020 using an online google form questionnaire. Data obtained through the Scale of Attitudes Toward Psychic-Pharmacist Collaboration questionnaire contains 16 questions tested for validity and reliability. Questions were answered using a 4-point Likert Scale. The statistical test analysis results on the total score of the collaboration attitude scale using the Mann Whitney Test was a p-value of 0.000. The median total score of medical and pharmacy students was 47.00 and 56.00, respectively. The p-value indicates a significant difference between the total scores of medical and pharmacy students. Based on the analysis results, the study shows significant differences in collaboration attitudes. Medical education students fall into the "moderate" category and pharmacy students in the "high" category. The pharmacy students have a more positive collaboration attitude than medical education students toward future collaborative relationships.

Abstract
Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is crucial to efficient patient management in the modern healthcare setting. We sought to determine the attitudes of physicians and nurses working in different hospitals in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region of Pakistan. We employed the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC), a 15-item questionnaire that quantifies these attitudes in a meaningful way. Higher scores indicate a more positive attitude toward IPC. Four domains (shared education and teamwork, caring vs. curing, nurses' autonomy, and physicians' dominance) represent the intricate factors that influence IPC in a hospital setting. A total of 374 healthcare professionals responded. Nurses had significantly better opinions about IPC compared to physicians (mean: 50.81 vs. 47.48, p<.01). Nurses also outscored physicians in all four domains of the JSAPNC (education and collaboration 24.87 vs. 23.72 p<.001, caring vs. curing 10.88 vs. 9.42 p<.001, nurse's autonomy 10.89 vs. 10.51 p=.004, and physician's authority 4.17 vs. 3.82 p=.044). The results show that nurses in Pakistan value IPC more than their physician colleagues. Inculcating the importance of IPC through educational methods might help improve these attitudes.

Abstract
Introduction: In Peru, recently graduated physicians and nurses who are willing to start working in the public healthcare system, first have to work in their newly acquired profession in the programme denominated "Servicio Rural Urbano y Marginal de Salud" (SERUMS). The SERUMS programme is a 1-year contract in rural areas of the country. The aim of this study was to confirm the following hypothesis: the development of abilities associated to professionalism has a positive effect on the perception of global well-being in the professionals beginning SERUMS. Material and methods: In the study two cohorts of medical and nursing professionals that started SERUMS in 2017 and 2019 were included. The perception of global well-being and general health condition were measured with the Scale of Life Satisfaction (SWLS) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), respectively. Professionalism was measured using Jefferson's scales of empathy (JSE), teamwork (JSAPNC), and lifelong learning (JeffSPLL). An analysis in phases using the R language was applied to develop a multiple regression model that would explain the lineal relationship between the global perception of well-being and the studied variables. Results: The study sample included 303 professionals (108 men and 195 women) with a mean age of 26 years, ranging from 22 to 39 years (SD = 4). Based on their profession, 230 were medical doctors and 67 were nurses. The multiple regression model evidenced that age (p < 0.001), social dysfunction (p < 0.001), severe depression (p < 0.001), and inter-professional collaborative work abilities (p < 0.001) explain 38% of the variability in the global perception of well-being. Moreover, a second model explained 44% of the variability in the inter-professional collaborative work abilities based on a lineal relationship with empathy (p < 0.001), lifelong learning (p < 0.001), and future professional orientation (p = 0.01). Both models complied with the necessary conditions for statistic inference and showed large effect sizes. Conclusions: These findings confirm that professionalism has an important role in improving the global well-being of the professionals initiating SERUMS. This influence is direct in the case of inter-professional collaborative work, whereas it is indirect in the case of empathy and lifelong learning.

Abstract
CONTEXT Family offers an important source of social support where individuals acquire social abilities that are necessary to create positive human relationships. This influence has been discussed by different sociological and psychological theories along the life span of individuals. In medicine, empathy, teamwork, and lifelong learning have been described as specific elements of professionalism that have special importance in the interaction with patients and in physicians' well-being at the workplace. This study was performed with the aim of demonstrating the following hypothesis: In the absence of specific training in empathy and teamwork and lifelong learning abilities, their development in medical students is associated with the students' perception of loneliness from their family environment. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed in the only two medical schools of Cusco (Peru), one private and the other public. Jefferson Scales of Empathy, Teamwork, and Lifelong Learning were used as the main measures. Mother-son and father-son relationships and family loneliness were measured to characterize the family environment. In addition, information related to sex, medical school, academic achievements, and place of origin were collected to control possible biases. Comparative, correlation, and multiple regression analyses were performed among the variables studied. RESULTS In a sample of 818 medical students, differences by school appeared in empathy, teamwork, lifelong learning, and family loneliness. In addition, family loneliness showed an inverse correlation with empathy, teamwork, and learning measures. While having a positive relationship with the mother was associated with a greater development of empathy and learning abilities in the entire sample, a similar effect was observed in father-son relationships, but only in the private medical school group. Finally, in the public medical group, a multiple regression model explained 43% of the variability of empathy based on a lineal relationship with teamwork (p < 0.001), lifelong learning (p < 0.001), and family loneliness (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION These findings confirm how family loneliness is detrimental to the development of medical professionalism. Also, they support the important role that the family, and especially parents, plays in the development of empathy, teamwork, and abilities in medical students. Finally, these findings highlighted important differences among students enrolled in public and private medical schools.

Abstract
BACKGROUND During interprofessional clinical practice, compared to understanding of one's own professional role and function, it might be more difficult to clarify the roles and contributions of the other health-care team members because of the inter-professional barrier. In order to provide students the opportunity for real experience with other professions in team environments and enhance their perceptions of other professions' roles, this study developed a comprehensive and multi-dimension extracurricular interprofessional education (IPE) model through designing and integrating a profession-role exchange component, that was medical students as pharmacists or nurses, pharmacy students as physicians or nurses, and nursing students as physicians or pharmacists in the interprofessional health-care student team, into the service learning experience in a real community setting. METHODS In this pre/post-intervention study, the effect of integrated profession-role exchange experiences on the students' attitudes towards interprofessional collaboration and their role clarification was evaluated among 60 student volunteers (20 medical students, 20 pharmacy students and 20 nursing students). All involved students were divided into the profession-role exchange intervention group and the control group. Subjects in the control group did not participate the profession-role exchange experiences, the other IPE procedures were the same for both groups. Three survey instruments for attitudes toward interprofessional clinical collaboration were respectively used to measure the students' attitudes toward physician-pharmacist, physician-nurse and nurse-pharmacist collaborations. "Roles and responsibilities" subscale of Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale was used to evaluate the overall role clarification during IPE. RESULTS Compared to the control IPE activity, the addition of profession-role exchange component resulted in the significant increase in students' positive attitudes towards interprofessional collaboration, and the enhancement of students' role awareness. CONCLUSIONS The profession-role exchange might be more effective and better initiate students to the practice of interprofessional collaboration, and could be used as an effective IPE tool for improving the role awareness of health-care students.

Abstract
Interprofessional working relationships can influence the quality of collaborative practices, with consequences for patient safety outcomes. This article reports findings of an adapted relationship scale comprising six different relationship types, ranging from hostile to collegial, between seven health-care professions: physicians, nurses, dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and psychologists. Survey data were gathered within amixed-method study aiming to explore the current status quo of interprofessional collaboration in aHealth Trust, located in Northern Italy. An online questionnaire was completed by 2,238 health professionals achieving aresponse rate of 44%. The working relationship element was answered by 1,897 respondents. The results of the survey are used as abasis for recommending strategies for advancing interprofessional collaboration in the Trust. Descriptive statistics were used to examine relationship-types, with frequency of occurrence considered. The non-parametric Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to explore relationship differences among groups defined by sociodemographic variables. Participants reported overall positive relationships with other health professions. We noted variability in the occurrence of different relationship-types amongst the health professions. In particular, the six professions viewed their relationships with doctors more negatively than physicians who reported amore positive perception of their relationships with the six professions.

Abstract
Objectives Undergraduate nursing and first-year medical students participated in a brief, scenario-based, interprofessional event. The experimental group only was provided an innovative, rapid e-learning instructional module focused on interprofessional roles/responsibilities and communication prior to the event. Methods Pre-post attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration were surveyed, and collaborative behaviors were observed during the event. Results For the experimental group, a statistically significant (p<0.05) attitude improvement was found between pre-post e-learning module scores as well as pre-e-learning module and post-simulation event scores. For the control group, a statistically significant (p=0.001) attitude improvement was found between pre-post simulation event scores. No statistically significant differences in team collaborative behaviors were observed between experimental and control. Conclusions The combination of module and simulation event was not a more effective option than the event alone. As both interventions present unique challenges in regards to technology and facility requirements, having multiple effective intervention options will be of benefit to educational institutions.

Abstract
Introduction For physicians and nurses, teamwork involves a set of communication and social skills, and specific training in interdisciplinary work in order to be able to work together cooperatively, sharing responsibilities, solving problems, and making decisions to carry out actions centered on patients' care. Recent studies demonstrate that in the absence of targeted interdisciplinary educational programs, the development of teamwork abilities is sensitive to the influence of the dominant work environment. The purpose of this study was to characterize the role that environmental and individual factors play in the development of teamwork in environments with a dominant hierarchical work model. Methods Questionnaires were distributed to 1,880 undergraduate students (980 medicine students and 900 nursing students) from three universities of Cusco city (Peru). The Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration was used as the main variable. The Jefferson Scales of Empathy and Lifelong Learning, the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults, the Scale of Life Satisfaction, sex, discipline, age, and academic semester were used as explanatory variables. After calculating internal reliability and normality of the main measures, descriptive, comparative, and correlation analyses were performed to determine variables influencing the teamwork score. Results A total of 1,518 (81%) surveys were returned fully completed. Adequate reliability was confirmed in all instruments. In the sample, nursing students showed greater inter-professional collaborative abilities than medicine students (p < 0.001). This attitudinal gap was higher in advanced semesters. A three-way ANOVA indicated differences in teamwork were associated with discipline (p < 0.001), sex (p < 0.01), and university (p < 0.001). However, main effects were associated only with discipline (η p2 = 0.14). Teamwork showed an inverse correlation with loneliness (ρ = -0.28; p < 0.001) and a positive correlation with empathy (ρ = + 0.49; p < 0.001) and lifelong learning (ρ = + 0.48; p < 0.001). Teamwork positively correlated with life satisfaction only in the medicine student group (ρ = + 0.15; p < 0.001). Conclusion These findings bring new evidence to support the main effect that social environments, in the absence of targeted interdisciplinary educational programs, play in the development of teamwork.

Abstract
PurposeA physician–nurse relationship is a complex, professional and shared-decision-making process, which is an important predictor of high-quality patient care. The purpose of this paper is to explore the attitude of the physician–nurse relationship in Southern Lebanon hospitals.Design/methodology/approachA descriptive institutional cross-sectional study was conducted among different departments of three hospitals in Southern Lebanon using a validated Jefferson Scale of Attitude.FindingsIn sum, 89 physicians and 245 nurses accepted to participate. The nurses’ mean age was 32 and the physicians’ was 44. The mean score was found to be 46 for all participants, with significantly higher scores noted among nurses compared to physicians (48 vs 43, respectively) and higher scores among females compared to males (48 vs 46, respectively). However, the study scored no significant difference in relation to the degrees attained by nurses and the participants’ years of experience. The majority had agreed that the shortage in the nurses’ staff affects proper patient care delivery. One fourth of the physicians disagreed that nurses should be considered as a collaborator and colleague. Therefore, more work is required to improve this collaboration.Research limitations/implicationsThere is a complex relationship normally displayed by physicians and nurses, which cannot be easily interpreted and analyzed. Physicians and nurses may have given socially desirable responses while filling the questionnaire. Even more, this study was conducted in Hospitals in Southern Lebanon, and it would be nice to extend this study to include further hospitals in other regions in Lebanon as well.Practical implicationsNurses had higher scores toward collaboration, with females scoring higher than males. However, overall scores are considered to be lower compared to other countries. Thus, more efforts should be done on improving this communication among nurses and physicians, through promoting inter-professional undergraduate and postgraduate education training toward more effective communication.Social implicationsQuality of patient care would be improved if more work is done on improving the collaboration between physicians and nurses, and this was shown to be required as per study results.Originality/valueThere is a gap in literature assessing this important topic which is the collaboration and attitude of nurses and physicians toward their relationship in Lebanon. It is extremely important that efforts should be taken in order to determine the type of nurse–physician relationship in every local context as this relationship affects quality of patients’ care.

Abstract
The Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSATPNC) is an established tool to assess attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration. The aim of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the JSATPNC for use in Greece and test its psychometric properties. The final study sample included 621 physicians and nurses working in two general hospitals of Northern Greece during 2017. The study sample was randomly split into two halves; separate exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted. A regression analysis including sociodemographic variables was performed to predict the JSATPNC total score. The Cronbach's alpha was .74. A four-scale model (a) interprofessional collaboration, (b) involvement in decision-making, (c) expertise, (d) physician's dominance was extracted from the exploratory factor analysis. The confirmatory factor analysis indicated an acceptable model fit (RMSEA = .069, SRMR = .083, TLI = .875, CFI = .903). There was adequate evidence for both convergent and discriminant validity, apart from the "physician's dominance" scale; the exclusion of items 9 and 12 from this scale resulted in an alternative model with the improved model fit (RMSEA = .062, SRMR = .078, TLI = .902, CFI = .916). The test-retest intraclass correlation coefficients were all above .7. Age and profession of the respondents emerged as important predictors of the total scale score. The Greek version of the JSATPNC shows promise as a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating collaboration between physicians and nurses.

Abstract
While interprofessional collaboration is a critical aspect of optimal patient care, practicing physicians often have sub-optimal attitudes regarding the importance of collaboration with their nursing colleagues. The impact of clinical training on medical students' and residents' attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration has not been investigated. The primary goal of our study was to examine if learners at different stages in their medical training had more or less favorable attitudes regarding interprofessional collaboration (IPC). A secondary goal was to compare residents in procedural versus non-procedural specialties to determine if attitudes toward IPC varied by specialty type. Third-year medical students and residents at a large public university completed the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. Student (n = 129) and resident (n = 292) scores were compared using Student's t-tests. Resident responses were further analyzed by specialty type. Students' perceptions of the physician-nurse relationship were significantly more favorable than the views of residents, particularly in the "Authority" and "Responsibility" domains. Residents in procedural specialties had less favorable attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration than those in non-procedural specialties. Our findings highlight the importance of developing effective interventions for improving interprofessional collaboration during medical training.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Effective relationship and collaboration between doctors and nurses is considered the main factor in achieving positive medical results, which is the most important goal of the healthcare system. This study aims to compare attitude of doctors and nurses toward factors associated with doctor-nurse collaboration, including shared education and teamwork, caring as opposed to curing, physician's dominance, and nurses’ autonomy. Methods: In this cross sectional, descriptive-comparative study, the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration was used to assess doctor–nurse collaboration in four domains, including shared education and teamwork, caring as opposed to curing, physician's dominance, and nurses’ autonomy. To this end, descriptive (mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics including independent t test, Chi-square, and variance analysis were used. Results: According to the results obtained, compared to doctors, nurses showed a more positive attitude toward shared education and teamwork, caring as opposed to curing, and physicians’ dominance, but there was no significant difference between the two groups in nurses’ autonomy. Conclusion: With regard to doctor-nurse collaboration, it is essential that doctors and nurses be acculturated in the course of their academic education. Moreover, policies to change pattern of professional relationships from hierarchical to complementary can be effective in enhancing professional autonomy of nurses and reducing impaired professional interactions.

Abstract
AIMS The aims of the study were (a) to assess whether the proportion of female nurses and female physicians in a given unit influences the attitude of collaboration between nurses and physicians as reported by nurses, and (b) to examine how these two dimensions interact to influence attitudes towards cooperation. BACKGROUND Available studies have documented that gender influences the collaboration between physicians and nurses, but no have explored the influence of specific combinations-such as a high proportion of female nurses and a high proportion of female physicians. METHODS A cross-sectional study involving 700 nurses working in 36 hospital units in Italy. The validated Italian version of the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration was used. A three stages hierarchical linear regression was performed by entering: (a) the control variables at the individual and at the unit levels, (b) the proportion of female nurses and physicians and (c) the two-way interaction. RESULTS A total of 430 nurses participated; the average Jefferson Scale of Attitudes towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration total score was 48.64 ± 5.27. At the second and third stages of the hierarchical linear regression model (explaining 12.8% and 14.1% of the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration variance, respectively), having more female RNs as staff (model two: ß = 0.61, p =< .1; model three: ß = 0.69, p =< .05) was significantly associated with higher Jefferson Scale of Attitudes towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration scores; differently, higher physician-nurse ratios (model two: ß = -4.09, p =< .05; model three: ß = -4.54, p =< .01), and more female physicians (model two: ß = -1.06, p =< .05; model three: ß = -1.29, p =< .01) were associated with lower Jefferson Scale of Attitudes towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration scores. CONCLUSION There is a decreased collaboration as reported by nurses when predominantly male nursing teams interact with teams with more female physicians. However, in units lead by female physicians, having more female members among the nursing team, ensures increased attitudes of collaboration as reported by nurses. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT With the increasing proportion of female physicians and male nurses, unit mangers should be prepared to manage their influence on interprofessional cooperation.

Abstract
Background:Medication prescription is generally the responsibility of doctors. In nursing homes, the nursing staff is often the first to suspect an infection. Today, physicians are more confident with nursing assessment, relying primarily on nursing staff information. Very few studies have investigated the nurses' influence on decision of medical prescription. This study investigates the role of nurses in antibiotic prescribing for the treatment of suspected infections in nursing home residents. Design and methods:An ethnographic study based on semi-structured interviews and participant observations was conducted. Sixteen nurses and five doctors working in five nursing homes in Paris, France participated between October 2015 and January 2016. Results:Given their proximity to elderly residents, registered nurses at the nursing homes occasionally assisted doctors in their medical diagnostic. However, nurses who are theoretically incompetent have met difficulties in their ability to participate in their decisions to prescribe antibiotics when managing residents' infections. Conclusion: if proximity and nursing skills reinforce the relevance of the clinical judgment of nurses, the effective and collaborative communication between the nurse and the doctor may help the nurse to enhance their role in the antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes, which would enhance antimicrobial stewardship efficiency.

Abstract
Background Empathy is an important element of the physician-patient relationship and is a critical personality trait for medical students. However, research has shown that it declines during undergraduate medical education. It is still unclear how empathy interrelates with the psychological elements of medical students, in particular, self-esteem. This study examined the relationship between empathy and self-esteem to explore other possible methods to improve medical students’ empathy. Methods A stratified sampling strategy was used to select 1690 medical students from 3 medical institutions in Shanghai as study participants. The questionnaires used to collect data included the Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy-Student Version (JSPE-S), the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES), and a self-made inventory on personal information. Descriptive analysis, independent t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and linear regression were used to analyze the data. Results The mean empathy score among medical students was 102.73 with SD = 12.64. Multiple regression analysis revealed that, “age,” “perception of the importance of empathy,” “academic pressure,” “desire to be a doctor after graduation,” and “self-esteem” were significant predictors of empathy (P < 0.05) and the adjusted R2 was 0.462. The correlation matrix between empathy and self-esteem was significant (r = 0.510, P < 0.01). Self-esteem explained 15.5% of the variation of empathy in the final regression model. Conclusion There was a positive association between self-esteem and empathy. Self-esteem is one of many factors which contribute to medical students’ empathy. Age, academic pressure, attitude toward empathy and future career also play a critical role in medical student empathy. Enhancing medical students’ self-esteem may be an efficacious way to improve medical students’ empathy.

Abstract
AIM To discuss the development of the family and community health nurse (FCHN) in Italy by focusing on three levels: organisational, political and theoretical. BACKGROUND The role of the FCHN in Italy is not yet embedded evenly across the Italian National Health System (INHS) and does not have formal recognition, either contractually or organisationally. Although complementary post-basic training has been available for over a decade, the FCHN's role in Italy currently exists only in pilot form. In some regions, the FCHN has operated for longer, thanks to which a clearer understanding of the functions and responsibilities required by the FCHN has emerged. Proposals for professional and social policies have emerged, as the FCHN's role may be an answer to health problems and a contributor to the construction of social capital, capable of influencing both individual and collective well-being. METHODS A mixed method investigation via a parallel concurrent design to identify the organisational models for the FCHN was conducted across Italy. In this paper, two profiles are discussed - family and community health nursing and FCHN - but each with its different connotations. The former refers to the practice of nursing and the latter to the nursing practitioners working with family and the community. CONCLUSION We describe the expected future outcomes for FCHNs as elements of social innovation for the development of a new welfare system.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims at identifying profiles of mental health professionals based on individual, interactional, structural and professional role characteristics related to interprofessional collaboration. METHODS Mental health professionals (N = 315) working in primary health care and specialized mental health teams in four Quebec local service networks completed a self-administered questionnaire eliciting information on individual, interactional, structural and professional role characteristics. RESULTS Cluster analysis identified four profiles of mental health professionals. Those with the highest interprofessional collaboration scores comprised two profiles labeled "highly collaborative female professionals with fewer conflicts and more knowledge sharing and integration" and "highly collaborative male professionals with fewer conflicts, more participation in decision-making and mutual trust." By contrast, the profile labeled "slightly collaborative professionals with high seniority, many conflicts and less knowledge integration and mutual trust" had the lowest interprofessional collaboration score. Another profile positioned between these groups was identified as "moderately collaborative female psychosocial professionals with less participation in decision-making." DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION Organizational support, participation in decision-making, knowledge sharing, knowledge integration, mutual trust, affective commitment toward the team, professional diversity and belief in the benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration were features associated with profiles where perceived interprofessional collaboration was higher. These team qualities should be strongly encouraged by mental health managers for improving interprofessional collaboration. Training is also needed to promote improvement in interprofessional collaboration competencies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physicians need a set of specific competences to perform well in interprofessional teams in their first year of residency. These competences should be achieved with graduation from medical school. Assessments during undergraduate medical studies are mostly rated by supervisors only. The aim of our study was to compare the rating of core facets of competence of medical students late in their undergraduate training as well as the rating confidence between three different groups of assessors (supervisors, residents, and nurses) in an assessment simulating the first day of residency. METHODS Sixty-seven advanced medical students from three different medical schools (Hamburg, Oldenburg and Munich) participated in a 360-degree assessment simulating the first working day of a resident. Each participant was rated by three assessors - a supervisor, a resident and a nurse - in seven facets of competence relevant for the first year of residency: (1) responsibility, (2) teamwork and collegiality, (3) knowing and maintaining own personal bounds and possibilities, (4) structure, work planning and priorities, (5) coping with mistakes, (6) scientifically and empirically grounded method of working, and (7) verbal communication with colleagues and supervisors. Means of all assessed competences and confidences of judgement of the three rating groups were compared. Additionally, correlations between assessed competences and confidence of judgement within each group of raters were computed. RESULTS All rating groups showed consistent assessment decisions (Cronbach's α: supervisors = .90, residents = .80, nurses = .78). Nurses assessed the participants significantly higher in all competences compared to supervisors and residents (all p ≤ .05) with moderate and high effect sizes (d = .667-1.068). While supervisors' and residents' ratings were highest for "teamwork and collegiality", participants received the highest rating by nurses for "responsibility". Competences assessed by nurses were strongly positively correlated with their confidence of judgment while supervisors' assessments correlated only moderately with their confidence of judgment in two competences. CONCLUSIONS Different professional perspectives provide differentiated competence ratings for medical students in the role of a beginning resident. Rating confidence should be enhanced by empirically derived behavior checklists with anchors, which need to be included in rater training to decrease raters' subjectivity.

Abstract
Background: Inter-professional and interpersonal relationships in collaborative work environments can prove to be critical elements in healthcare practice. When implementers fail to understand the importance of a collaborative perspective, this can lead to communication problems which ultimately harm the users. Objectives: To improve the inter-professional collaborative work skills of Mexican students in their first year of medical and nursing degrees through the use of a training program geared toward development of interpersonal skills and interdisciplinary work. Methods: The sample was composed of 162 students (62 males and 99 females) from the School of Healthcare Sciences of the Autonomous University of Coahuila, Mexico. The main measures used were the Jefferson Scale of Empathy (JSE); the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Inter-Professional Collaborative Work between Medical and Nursing Professionals (JSAPNC); and the Jefferson Scale of Lifelong Learning (JeffSPLL). The entire sample was divided into two groups (experimental and control groups). Both groups attended an extra-curricular program using a coaching methodology. In the first case the topic focused on attitudes toward inter-professional collaborative work. In the second case, the program focused on addiction. Both programs ran for 4 months. Psychometric instruments were applied at the beginning and at the end of both programs. After analyzing the reliability of the instruments, an ANOVA test was performed. Results: The control group of medical students showed a deterioration in the development of collaborative work skills (p < 0.01), whereas in the experimental group this deterioration was not present. In the experimental group of nursing students, a significant increase in the development of collaborative work skills (p < 0.05) was observed. The differences were clearly due to the professional area of study (p < 0.001). Conclusion: There are differences in collaborative work skill development among different professional areas. These differences can be reduced through the implementation of a program aimed at developing collaborative work and interpersonal skills in the early stages of training.

Abstract
Background: Effective collaboration among health professionals is an essential component to ensure quality of care. Many adverse events experienced by patients are attributed to misunderstanding or poor communication among members of the interprofessional team. Interprofessional simulation is a learning strategy used to improve collaboration and facilitate communication between medical and nursing students. Aim of the work: To determine the efficacy of educational program based on high-fidelity interprofessional simulation aimed at improving collaborative attitude. Method: For this purpose, a protocol for a planned single-center, non-blinded and Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) was chosen. The present has been approved by the Ethics Committee of Area Vasta Emilia Nord (Italy) (n° 479/2018). All students attending the second and third year of nursing and all resident physicians in anesthesia, reanimation, intensive care and pain management of University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, will be recruited and randomly assigned to two groups. The Experimental Group (EG) will receive an educational intervention based on high-fidelity simulation and the Control Group (CG) will attend a traditional classroom lesson. Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC) and Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) will be administered before and after the educational program in both the EG and CG. Conclusion: Expected outcomes is that, at the end of the study, nursing students and resident physicians who participated in the interprofessional simulation show significantly higher levels of interprofessional collaboration compared to the CG, evaluated through the JSAPNC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To measure undergraduate pharmacy and medical students' collaborative attitudes regarding Pharmacist-Physician collaboration. METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from September 2016 to February 2017 in Northeast Brazil. Pharmacy and medical students from the first and the last year of courses were invited to complete Portuguese version of Scale of Attitudes Toward Pharmacist-Physician Collaboration (SATP2C). Descriptive and comparative analyses were performed using IBM SPSS (22 version). Differences were considered significant when p<0.05. RESULTS Three hundred seventy students completed the SATP2C. Overall, the students had positive attitudes towards physician-pharmacist collaboration. There was no significant correlation between age and score (p=0.79). Women showed a more positive collaborative attitude than men (53.1, SD=6.8 vs. 55.1, SD=6.3). Pharmacy students had a higher score than medical students (57.5, SD=4.7, vs. 51.1, SD=6.4). The first-year medical students had a higher score than last-year medical students (52.3, SD=6.0 vs. 49.5, SD=6.6; p<0.007). There was no significant difference in the attitudes between the first and last year pharmacy students (p<0.007). CONCLUSIONS Pharmacy and medical students showed positive attitudes towards physician-pharmacist collaboration. However, pharmacy students presented more collaborative attitudes than medical ones. Additionally, the first-year medical students had more collaborative attitudes than last-year medical students. Studies should be conducted to provide recommendations to improve interprofessional education efforts to further enhance the positive attitudes toward physician-pharmacist collaboration.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Clinical education is an important part of nurse training. It provides students with the opportunity to gain useful experience and has a key role in their professional preparation. The importance of clinical education in nursing students' professional performance means that identifying the challenges in this field is crucial. AIM The goal of this study is to identify challenges in the field of clinical nurse education. DESIGN A qualitative content analysis study. SETTING A faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, in Iran 2017. PARTICIPANTS Nine student nurses, three qualified nurses and two nursing educators. METHODS This study has been applied to various depths of interpretation. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data. Nine student nurses, three qualified nurses and two nursing educators were interviewed. RESULTS The analysis of the interviews generated five categories. Two main themes were extracted as challenges in the clinical training of nursing professionals: 1. Inefficient educational structure and 2. Inefficient professional performance environment. CONCLUSION Considering the inadequate professional performance environment and defective educational structure, designing and delivering lessons with clear goals is essential. Using objective and measurable scales for evaluating educational standards, the use of empowered instructors with high communicational skills is useful for increasing students' motivation and interest toward clinical education and solving existing challenges.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurse-physician collaboration is a critical prerequisite for high-quality care. Previous researchers have addressed multiple factors that influence collaboration. However, little of this research has explored the influence of interactional factors on nurses' perception of nurse-physician collaboration in China. AIMS To examine the influence of interactional factors (effective communication, perceived respect and willingness to collaborate) on nurses' perception of nurse-physician collaboration. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of 971 registered nurses in nine hospitals was conducted. An author-designed interactional factor questionnaire and the Nurse-Physician Collaboration Scale were used to collect data. Multiple regression analysis was used. RESULTS Nurse-physician collaboration was identified as at a moderate level (mean = 3.93 ± 0.68). Interactional factors (effective communication, perceived respect and willingness to collaborate) were identified as relatively moderate to high (mean = 4.03 ± 0.68, mean = 3.87 ± 0.75, mean = 4.50 ± 0.59, respectively). The results showed that effective communication, perceived respect and willingness to collaborate explained 57.3% of the variance in nurses' perception of nurse-physician collaboration (Adjusted R2 = 0.573, F = 435.563, P < 0.001). Perceived respect (β = 0.378) was the strongest factor relevant to nurses' perception of nurse-physician collaboration, second was effective communication (β = 0.315), and the weakest factor among these three factors was willingness to collaborate (β = 0.160). CONCLUSION Nurses' perceptions of collaboration were relatively positive, mainly in Sharing of patient information; however, improvements need to be made regarding Joint participation in the cure/care decision-making process. Effective communication, perceived respect and willingness to collaborate significantly affect nurses' perception of nurse-physician collaboration, with perceived respect having greater explanatory power among the three interactional factors. It is necessary for hospital managers to develop strategies to build professional respect for nurses, facilitate effective nurse-physician communication and improve nurses' willingness to collaborate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Interprofessional learning activities are included in many curricula but are difficult to assess. For languages that are not widely spoken such as Swedish, few validated questionnaires exist that relate to interprofessional outcomes. Therefore, the aim was to examine two such questionnaires in relation to interprofessional competence domains. METHODS Psychometric characteristics, such as homogeneity of items and internal consistency, were assessed for the Swedish versions of the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC) and the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS). The questionnaires were distributed directly following IPL activities. Mokken scale analysis based on Loevinger's coefficient for homogeneity and Cronbach's alpha were used to evaluate the scales. Two expert panels performed a qualitative analysis of items in relation to four internationally defined interprofessional competences. RESULTS In total, 88 and 84 responded to the JSAPNC and RIPLS questionnaires, respectively. Estimates of homogeneity were low for both the JSAPNC (H = 0.16) and the RIPLS (H = 0.21). Reliabilities were weak (0.62 and 0.66, respectively) for the total scales. The expert panels categorised 68% of items into similar competence domains. However, their discussion revealed ambiguous wordings and imbalances in the two questionnaires in relation to domains. CONCLUSION Interprofessional competence domains are defined but few validated tools exist to assess them. Examined tools relating to interprofessional learning in Swedish do not qualify for assessing overarching IPL outcomes, and summed scores from these tools should be used with caution.

Abstract
AIMS Describe physician-nurse collaboration in feeding critically ill patients and explore the influence factors related to this collaboration, which can provide information for clinical practice and future studies. BACKGROUND Appropriate nutrition support is essential and significant for critically ill patients, and the importance of physician-nurse collaboration in other fields has been confirmed, yet there are limited studies put insights into the status of physician-nurse collaboration in feeding critically ill patients. METHODS A cross-sectional survey with a covering of 15 hospitals was conducted. A 21-item questionnaire was administered to physicians and nurses in critical care units. Descriptive statistics, univariate and multiple stepwise regression analysis were performed to evaluate the physician-nurse collaboration in feeding critically ill patients. RESULTS A total of 331 respondents completed the questionnaire. Nurses and physicians were found to have differing perceptions of the physician-nurse collaboration in feeding critically ill patients, with nurses reporting lower levels of collaboration. Nurses consistently gave more negative responses on every survey question compared with physicians. Age, education and clinical experience significantly influenced the nurses' perceptions of cooperation, and age, education, ICU type, and seniority affected the physicians' perceptions of collaboration. CONCLUSIONS Physicians, nurses and hospital administrators should highlight the physician-nurse collaboration in feeding critically ill patients and reinforce the cooperation based on potential influencing factors. Further research is required to establish feasible cooperative protocol and evaluate the effectiveness of the approach.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION For over a decade, enquiries into adverse perinatal outcomes have led to reports that poor collaboration has been detrimental to the safety and experience of maternity care. Despite efforts to improve collaboration, investigations into maternity care at Morecambe Bay (UK) and Djerriwarrh Health Services (Australia) have revealed that poor collaboration and decision-making remain a threat to perinatal safety. The Labouring Together study will investigate how elements hypothesised to influence the effectiveness of collaboration are reflected in perceptions and experiences of clinicians and childbearing women in Victoria, Australia. The study will explore conditions that assist clinicians and women to work collaboratively to support positive maternity outcomes. Results of the study will provide a platform for consumers, clinician groups, organisations and policymakers to work together to improve the quality, safety and experience of maternity care. METHODS AND ANALYSIS 4 case study sites have been selected to represent a range of models of maternity care in metropolitan and regional Victoria, Australia. A mixed-methods approach including cross-sectional surveys and interviews will be used in each case study site, involving both clinicians and consumers. Quantitative data analysis will include descriptive statistics, 2-way multivariate analysis of variance for the dependent and independent variables, and χ2 analysis to identify the degree of congruence between consumer preferences and experiences. Interview data will be analysed for emerging themes and concepts. Data will then be analysed for convergent lines of enquiry supported by triangulation of data to draw conclusions. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Organisational ethics approval has been received from the case study sites and Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee (2014-238). Dissemination of the results of the Labouring Together study will be via peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and in written reports for each case study site to support organisational change.

Abstract
Across the world, multidisciplinary teamwork has become an essential component in the care of patients with chronic conditions--the Chronic Care Units (CCUs) in the Italian region of Tuscany are no exception to this new era of collaboration. We sought to explore the attitudes towards collaboration of general practitioners (GPs) and nurses within the CCUs using the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes towards Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC). The survey was sent electronically to 218 GPs and 46 nurses of 23 CCUs in two Local Health Authorities of Tuscany. A higher JSAPNC score is indicative of a more positive attitude towards physician-nurse collaboration. JSAPNC scores were calculated for both totals and by three factors: "shared education and collaboration," "caring versus curing," and "physician authority." A total of 133 healthcare professionals (94 GPs and 39 nurses) responded (response rate = 51.5%). Nurses reported significantly more positive attitudes towards collaboration than GPs (52.5 vs. 44.0, p < 0.01). This trend was also found in each of the three factors. This information adds to the scarce literature on nurse-physician collaboration in the primary care setting and highlights the need for considerable improvement given the rise of team-based outpatient care models.

Abstract
Interprofessional collaboration and teamwork between nurses and physicians is essential for improving patient outcomes and quality of health services. This study examined the attitudes of nurses and physicians toward nurse-physician collaboration. A cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses and physicians (n = 414) in two main referral public hospitals in the Gaza Strip using the Arabic Jefferson Scale of Attitude toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. Descriptive statistics and difference of means, proportions, and correlations were examined using Student's t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation and p < 0.05 was considered as statistical significant. Response rate was 42.8% (75.6% for nurses and 24.4% for physicians). Nurses expressed more positives attitudes toward collaboration than physicians (M ± SD on four-point scale: 3.40 ± 0.30 and 3.01 ± 0.35, resp.) and experience duration was not proved to have an interesting influence. Teamwork approach in the professional practice should be recognized taking into consideration that the relationship between physicians and nurses is complementary and nurses are partners in patient care.

Abstract
Context: Empathy, teamwork, and lifelong learning are described as key elements of professionalism. The first recipients of their benefits are professionals themselves. Paradoxically, scarce studies have reported association between professionalism and occupational well-being. The main purpose of this study was to characterize the influence that empathy, teamwork, and lifelong learning, play in the occupational well-being of physicians and nurses working in Latin American healthcare institutions. Materials and Methods: The Jefferson Scale of Empathy, the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration, the Jefferson Scale of Physicians Lifelong Learning, and the Scale of Collateral Effects (somatization, exhaustion, and work alienation), were administered to 522 physicians and nurses working in institutions of Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, and Argentina. Internal reliability was calculated. Gender and discipline were used as explanatory variables in comparison analysis. Two-way analysis of variance was performed to examine differences due to the main effects of the gender, and discipline, and to determine possible combined effects. Correlation analysis was performed to measure associations between collateral effects and age, and between collateral effects and professionalism. Results: A total of 353 (68%) surveys were returned fully completed. Adequate reliability was confirmed in all instruments. No differences were found among countries for collateral effects. Correlation analysis confirmed in physicians an inverse association between empathy and collateral effects (P = -0.16; p < 0.05), and between collateral effects and lifelong learning (P = -0.18; p < 0.01). In nurses, this association was confirmed only for empathy (P = -0.19; p < 0.05). Important differences in the development of professionalism and in its effects on occupational well-being appeared associated to inter-professional collaboration and work roles. An inverse correlation between age and collateral effects was confirmed in physicians (P = -0.22; p < 0.001) and in nurses (P = -28; p < 0.001). Comparison by gender confirmed higher somatization in women physicians and nurses than in men groups (p < 0.001). On the other hand, comparison by discipline confirmed higher exhaustion and alienation in physicians than in nurses (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The findings support the importance that empathy, teamwork, and lifelong learning have in practitioners' health and welfare, and the role that cultural behaviors, associated to work professional models and social stereotypes, play in the interaction between professionalism and occupational well-being.

Abstract
Introduction: Nurse–physician inter-professional relationship is an important issue in health care system that can affect job satisfaction and patient care quality. The present study explores the major issues of nurse–physician inter-professional relationships in Iran. Materials and Methods: In this in-depth qualitative content analysis study conducted in 2014, 12 participants (5 physicians and 7 nurses) were recruited from two educational hospitals. The data were collected from deep, open, and unstructured interviews, and analyzed based on content analysis. Results: The participants in this study included 12 individuals, 6 females and 6 males, with the age ranging 27–48 years and tenure ranging 4–17 years. Four themes were identified, namely, divergent attitudes, uneven distribution of power, mutual trust destructors, and prudence imposed on nurses. Conclusions: The results revealed some major inter-professional issues and challenges in nurse–physician relationships, some of which are context-specific whereas others should be regarded as universal. It is through a deep knowledge of these issues that nurses and physicians can establish better collaborative inter-professional relationships.

Abstract
This quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study measured self-efficacy, attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration, and interprofessional competencies as outcomes of a palliative care simulation. Based on experience level, teams of participants, 1 consisting of nursing/medical students and the other of nursing/medical health care professionals, completed a palliative care simulation as part of their education. Self-efficacy and attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration were measured before and after simulation. Interprofessional competency was measured during the simulation. The results revealed a significant improvement in the previously mentioned measures, and interprofessional competency scores varied by profession and evaluator.

Abstract
Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) has been shown to improve patient outcomes, cost efficiency, and health professional satisfaction, and enhance healthy workplaces. We determined the attitudes of primary care physicians and nurses towards IPC and factors facilitating IPC using a cross-sectional study design in Singapore. A self-administered anonymous questionnaire, based on the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration (JSAPNC), was distributed to primary healthcare physicians and nurses working in National Healthcare Group Polyclinics (N = 455). We found that the mean JSAPNC score for physicians was poorer than that for nurses (50.39 [SD = 4.67] vs. 51.61 [SD = 4.19], respectively, mean difference, MD = 1.22, CI = 0.35-2.09, p = .006). Nurses with advanced education had better mean JSAPNC score than nurses with basic education (52.28 [SD = 4.22] vs. 51.12 [SD = 4.11], respectively, MD = 1.16, CI = 0.12-2.20, p = .029). Male participants had poorer mean JSAPNC score compared to females (50.27 [SD = 5.02] vs. 51.38 [SD = 4.22], respectively MD = 1.11, CI = 0.07-2.14, p = .036). With regression analysis, only educational qualification among nurses was independently and positively associated with JSAPNC scores (p = .018). In conclusion, primary care nurses in Singapore had more positive attitudes towards IPC than physicians. Among nurses, those with advanced education had more positive attitudes than those with basic education. Greater emphasis on IPC education in training of physicians and nurses could help improve attitudes further.

Abstract
Objetivo Identificar similitudes y diferencias en la empatía, en las habilidades de trabajo colaborativo interprofesional, y en las habilidades de aprendizaje médico permanente entre médicos residentes españoles y latinoamericanos que inician su formación especializada en hospitales docentes españoles. Diseño Estudio observacional mediante encuesta. Emplazamiento Cinco hospitales docentes de la provincia de Barcelona, España. Participantes Médicos residentes, españoles y latinoamericanos, que inician el primer año de los programas de formación médica especializada. Mediciones principales La empatía mediante la escala Jefferson de empatía médica. La colaboración interprofesional mediante la escala Jefferson de actitud hacia el trabajo colaborativo en equipos medicina-enfermería. El aprendizaje mediante la escala Jefferson de aprendizaje médico permanente. Resultados En una muestra de 156 residentes, 110 españoles y 40 latinoamericanos, los españoles mostraron una mayor orientación empática que los latinoamericanos (p < 0,05). Por su parte, los extranjeros mostraron puntuaciones más altas en habilidades de aprendizaje médico permanente respecto a sus pares españoles (p < 0,001). En todo el grupo se observó una relación positiva entre la empatía y el trabajo colaborativo (r = +0,47; p < 0,001). Una asociación similar se observó en el grupo de latinoamericanos, entre las habilidades de aprendizaje y las de trabajo colaborativo (r = +0,34; p < 0,05). Conclusiones Los resultados confirman observaciones preliminares y ponen en evidencia la asociación positiva que existe entre la empatía y las habilidades de trabajo colaborativo interprofesional. En médicos latinoamericanos que inician su formación en hospitales españoles, el mayor desarrollo de las habilidades de aprendizaje médico permanente parece influir positivamente en el desarrollo de otras competencias de interés profesional.

Abstract
PURPOSE This descriptive study aimed to assess the appropriateness of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP) catalogue Palliative Care for Dignified Dying for palliative care nursing interventions in South Korea. METHODS The study surveyed 213 South Korean nurses who might regularly care for dying patients. Nurses were recruited to complete a survey that included interventions from the ICNP catalogue listed with Likert response sets. FINDINGS All of the interventions were scored as being at least 'slightly important' on average. The following three nursing interventions were ranked as most important when caring for dying patients: establish trust, establish rapport, and administer pain medication. CONCLUSIONS The study provides new insights into the palliative care provided in South Korea by documenting nurses' views of what are the most important palliative care nursing interventions. It also suggests that the palliative care interventions listed in the ICNP catalogue Palliative Care for Dignified Dying are in congruence with the interventions that nurses in South Korea use.

Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the attitudes toward collaboration of nurses, general practitioners (GPs), and specialists practicing in newly established Medical Homes (MHs) in Parma Local Health Authority (LHA), Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The 15-item Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration was administered electronically to 172 physicians (66 GPs, 106 specialists) and 113 nurses practicing in 12 MHs. In all, 191 surveys (45 GPs, 59 specialists, 87 nurses) were completed (67% response rate). The mean total score among nurses (51.5, standard deviation [SD] = 3.7) reflected a significantly (P < .01) more positive attitude toward collaboration compared with GPs (47.8, SD = 4.6) and specialists (45.3, SD = 7.7). Discrepancies in attitudes are concerning because conflicting perceptions of professional roles may impede a successful transition to integrated care within MHs in Parma LHA. Internationally, further research into understanding interprofessional relationships within MHs is needed to inform policy and build a necessary culture of team-based care.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the attitudes of pediatric workers and undergraduate medical/nursing students toward collaboration. Attitude toward collaboration was measured using an adaptation of the Jefferson Scale of Attitude toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration. The 656 questionnaires were gathered from pediatrician, pediatric interns, and medical students (PIS) and pediatric nurses, nursing interns, and nursing students (NIS). Results showed a statistically significant difference in the total mean scores in attitudes towards collaboration with NIS scoring higher. Among the participants of PIS, the pediatricians obtained the highest mean scores, while, among the participants of NIS, the pediatric nurses got higher mean scores than nursing interns. It is desirable that medical and nurse schools should include interprofessional education in their curriculum to increase the understanding of the complementary roles of physicians and nurses and to encourage establishment of an interdependent relationship between them.
