Abstract
Hepatic cysts (often called biliary cysts of the liver) are common and usually asymptomatic. Spontaneous cyst rupture into the peritoneum is a rare but potentially grave complication. This complication can be prevented by elective laparoscopic unroofing of the dome of the cyst. This is a simple and reliable technique which offers both accurate diagnosis and protection from spontaneous rupture.
