Synthesis and cyclic voltammetry of 1,2,3-trisubstituted bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichlorides

1-Methyl-3-(naphthalen-2-yl)cyclo-penta-diene

The title compound, C16H14, an asymmetric naphthyl-/methyl-substituted cyclo-penta-diene was synthesized and one isomer of five accessible through sigmatropic rearrangement was isolated and characterized by 1H NMR and X-ray diffraction. The crystal packing features an inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-action.

Decorated Cyclopentadienes from Acetylene and Ketones in Just Two Steps

The products of the one-pot assembly of acetylene and ketones in the KOH/DMSO system, 7-methylene-6,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octanes, undergo an acid-catalyzed (CF₃COOH, room temperature) rearrangement to rarely substituted cyclopentadienes in good-to-excellent yields. The mechanism of the rearrangement has been supported by the isolation and corresponding transformations of two intermediates.

Two New Secondary Metabolites from the Endophytic Fungus Endomelanconiopsis endophytica

Two new secondary metabolites, endomeketals A–B (1–2), a new natural product (3), and a known compound (4) were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus Endomelanconiopsis endophytica A326 derived from Ficus hirta. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. All compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against SF-268, MCF-7, NCI-H460, and HepG-2 tumor cell lines. However, no compound showed cytotoxic activity against these human tumor cell lines.

Four-component Reaction between Aryl Aldehydes, Ethyl Cyanoacetate and Dimethyl Acetylenedicarboxylate in the Presence of Cyclohexyl Isocyanide

A four-component reaction between aryl aldehydes, ethyl cyanoacetate and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate in the presence of cyclohexyl isocyanide has been developed. The reaction furnishes highly functionalised cyclopentadienes in moderate to good yields in a one-pot process.
