Abstract
Eiseniachloride B is a marine chlorinated oxylipin isolated from the brown alga Eisenia bicyclis. This natural product contains cyclopentane, chlorohydrin, and 14-membered lactone systems that incorporate five stereogenic centers. In this paper, we report on the total synthesis of structurally unique oxylipin eiseniachloride B from optically active lactol via ecklonialactone B in a linear sequence comprising 11 steps with a 12.1% overall yield.

Abstract
The first approach to hyperireflexolide A, based on the synthesis of γ-lactone-fused cyclopentane 5, a functionalized key intermediate, is presented. Compound 5 is involved in hydrolysis, α-allylation at C-8 and α-methylation at C-10 stereoselectively from the convex face. Then it is subjected to cross metathesis to give α,β-unsaturated ketone 11 as precursor in the total synthesis of hyperireflexolide A.

Abstract
In order to develop new drugs for Alzheimer's disease, we prepared 17 fatty acid derivatives with different chain lengths and different numbers and positions of double bonds by using Wittig reaction and stereospecific hydrogenation of triple bonds as key reactions. Among them, (4Z,15Z)-octadecadienoic acid (10) and (23Z,34Z)-heptatriacontadienoic acid (16) showed the most potent neurite outgrowth activities on Aβ(25-35)-treated rat cortical neurons, which activities were comparable to that of a positive control, NGF. Both fatty acids 10 and 16 possess two (Z)-double bonds at the n-3 and n-14 positions, which might be important for the neurite outgrowth activity.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] Asymmetric synthesis of densely functionalized bicyclic frameworks for entry into bacillariolides I/III and ent-bacillariolide II is reported. The key features are ring-closing metathesis of a pair of diastereomerically related dienes obtained through a stereodivergent route from a R-(+)-glyceraldehyde derivative, transformation of a nonstereoselective cyclopentene ester enolate alkylation process to a completely stereoselective one through alkylation of a bulky ester enolate with a bulky electrophile, and a remote silyloxymethyl group directed epoxidation.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] The asymmetric total synthesis of bacillariolide III has been achieved via 15 linear steps in 14.6% overall yield. The key feature of this synthetic route involves the highly stereoselective construction of the vinyl-substituted bicyclic lactone by an intramolecular Pd(0)-catalyzed allylic alkylation and its facile conversion to the hydroxy bicyclic lactone skeleton of bacillariolide III, induced by stereoselective vinylcerium addition to the aldehyde. In addition, the (Z)-pentenoic acid was efficiently introduced by the internal hydroxy group tethered ring-closing metathesis (RCM).

Abstract
This paper describes the discovery and total synthesis of bioactive marine natural products conducted in our laboratory. Clavulone, chlorovulone, bromovulone, and iodovulone are antitumor marine prostanoids isolated from the Okinawan soft coral Clavularia viridis. The synthesis of clavulone and chlorovulone was achieved from chiral 4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenone. Marine prostanoid punaglandins 3 and 4 were synthesized via similar methodology. The chemical structures of punaglandins 3 and 4 were revised by these syntheses. Dollaberane-type diterpenoid stolonidiol and claenone were isolated from Okinawan soft coral Clavularia sp. Stolonidiol showed potent choline acetyltransferase-inducible activity in cultured basal forebrain cells. The synthesis of stolondiol and claenone was conducted via sequential Michael reaction and retro-aldol reaction. Aragusterols, isolated from the Okinawan marine sponge Xestospongia sp., are structurally unique steroids possessing a rare 26,27-cyclo structure in the side chain. Aragusterols express potent in vivo antitumor activity against L1210 leukemia in mice. The synthesis of aragusterols was carried out via steroselective construction of the side chain and stereocontrolled coupling reaction with the steroid skeleton. Kalihinane-type diterpenoid kalihinol A, isolated by Scheuer, has remarkable in vitro antimalarial activity. The absolute configuration of kalihinol A was determined by applying the CD exciton chiral method. Synthesis of kalihinene X, a kalihinane-type diterpenoid, was achieved. This synthesis involves the regioselective coupling reaction of carbanion of alkyl sulfone with epoxyalcohol and construction of cis-decalin by an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction.
