Abstract
A highly enantioselective synthesis of α-branched acrylonitriles is reported featuring a one-pot sequential asymmetric Michael addition/retro-Dieckmann/retro-Michael fragmentation cascade. The method, which relies on a solid, bench-stable, and commercially available acrylonitrile surrogate, is practical, scalable, and highly versatile and provides a direct access to a wide range of enantioenriched nitrile-containing building blocks. Most importantly, the method offers a new tool to incorporate an acrylonitrile moiety in an asymmetric fashion.

Abstract
A synergistic gold/iron catalytic system was developed for sequential alkyne hydration and vinyl gold addition to aldehydes or ketones. Fe(acac)3 was identified as an essential co-catalyst in preventing vinyl gold protodeauration and facilitating nucleophilic additions. Effective C-C bond formation was achieved under mild conditions (r.t.) with excellent regioselectivity and high efficiency (1% [Au], up to 95% yields). Extending reaction scope to intramolecular fashion achieved successful macrocyclization (16-31 ring sizes) with excellent yields (up to 90%, gram-scale) without extended dilution (0.2 M), which highlighted the great potential of this new crossed-aldol strategy in challenging target molecule synthesis.

Abstract
γ-Butenolides, γ-butyrolactones, and derivatives, especially in enantiomerically pure form, constitute the structural core of numerous natural products which display an impressive range of biological activities which are important for the development of novel physiological and therapeutic agents. Furthermore, optically active γ-butenolides and γ-butyrolactones serve also as a prominent class of chiral building blocks for the synthesis of diverse biological active compounds and complex molecules. Taking into account the varying biological activity profiles and wide-ranging structural diversity of the optically active γ-butenolide or γ-butyrolactone structure, the development of asymmetric synthetic strategies for assembling such challenging scaffolds has attracted major attention from synthetic chemists in the past decade. This review offers an overview of the different enantioselective synthesis of γ-butenolides and γ-butyrolactones which employ catalytic amounts of metal complexes or organocatalysts, with emphasis focused on the mechanistic issues that account for the observed stereocontrol of the representative reactions, as well as practical applications and synthetic potentials.

Abstract
Allylic cyclopropenecarboxylates undergo ring expansion reactions to give 2-allyloxyfuran intermediates, which subsequently rearrange to Δ(β,γ) butenolides via a Claisen rearrangement or to the corresponding Δ(α,β) butenolides via further Cope rearrangement. Also described are methods for chirality transfer in the rearrangement of nonracemic allylic esters.

Abstract
AbstractThe first Mukaiyama-Michael vinylogous reaction of a dioxinone-derived silyl ether to nitroalkenes is reported. The conjugate addition is performed in absence of any catalyst under solvent-free conditions, proceeding with satisfactory efficiency with variously substituted nitroalkenes. Moreover, the first organocatalyzed Mukaiyama-Michael vinylogous reaction of trimethylsilyloxyfuran to nitroalkenes is described. The reaction is promoted by Brønsted acids under solvent-free conditions, taking place in moderate to good yield with variously substituted nitroalkenes..

Abstract
The molecule of the title compound, C35H27N3O2, lies on a twofold rotation axis passing through the pyridine ring. The five-membered ring is approximately flat (r.m.s. deviation = 0.065 Å) and is essentially coplanar [dihedral angle = 4.2 (2)°] with the pyridine ring.

Abstract
Under dinuclear catalysis, the direct conjugate addition of 2(5H)-furanone to nitroalkenes involves the gamma-position of the nucleophile. The synthetically versatile Michael adducts are prepared in good yields, with high levels of diastereo- and enantioselectivity. A model is presented to rationalize the observed stereoselectivity.
