Abstract
Phosphiranes are weak Lewis bases reacting with only a limited number of electrophiles to produce the corresponding phosphiranium ions. These salts are recognized for their propensity to undergo reactions with oxygen pronucleophiles at the phosphorus site, leading to the formation of phosphine oxide adducts. Building on a thorough mechanistic understanding, we have developed an unprecedented approach that enables the selective reaction of carboxylic acids, and other nucleophiles, at the carbon site of phosphiranes. This method involves the photochemical generation of highly reactive carbenes, which react with 1-mesitylphosphirane to yield ylides. The latter undergoes a stepwise reaction with carboxylic acids, resulting in the production of the desired phosphines. In addition to DFT calculations, we have successfully isolated and fully characterized the key intermediates involved in the reaction.

Abstract
The reaction of 1-alkyl-1,2-diphosphacyclopenta-2,4-dienes (1-alkyl-1,2-diphospholes) (1) with diphenyldiazomethane proceeds at room temperature via unstable [3+2] cycloadducts to form bicyclic phosphiranes (2). However, 1-alkyl-1,2-diphospholes (1) react with N,alpha-diphenylnitrone or N-tert-butyl-alpha-phenylnitrone depending on the temperature to give either dimers of 1-alkyl-1-oxo-1,2-diphospholes (5) or 1-alkyl-1,7-dioxo-6-azo-1,7-diphospha-bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-enes (7) - phosphorus analogues of β-lactams.

Abstract
16Beta-aminomethyl-17beta-hydroxyestrone 3-methyl ether 6 and its N-propyl (17), N-benzyl (18) and N-arylmethyl derivatives (19-22) were subjected to ring closure reactions with phenylphosphonic dichloride in order to synthetize P-epimeric oxazaphosphorinanes 23a, 24-29 in which the hetero ring is condensed to ring D of the sterane skeleton. The stereostructures of the products were evaluated by 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The geometry was optimized by utilizing the B3LYP DFT method. The NMR spectral data and the results of the ab initio calculations demonstrated that the stereostructure of the hetero ring was strongly affected by the rigid sterane framework condensed to it, and the phosphoramidate ring proved to adopt predominantly a distorted-boat conformation, regardless of the P-configuration.
