Mechanism of nitrones and allenoates cascade reactions for the synthesis of dihydro[1,2-a]indoles

Quantum mechanical calculations (DLPNO-CCSD(T) and M06-2X) are employed to gain insights into the mechanism and selectivity in the catalytic synthesis of dihydropyrido[1,2-a]indoles from the cascade reaction between nitrones and allenes.

One pot conversion of benzophenone imine into the relevant 2-aza-allenium

Interaction of common imines with WCl₆ in organic solvents revealed very unusual features in the context of imine chemistry. Ph₂C[double bond, length as m-dash]NH was converted in one pot into the 2-aza-allenium species [Ph₂C[double bond, length as m-dash]N[double bond, length as m-dash]CPh₂]⁺via N₂ release, with [Ph₂C[double bond, length as m-dash]NH₂]⁺ being a co-product. PhCH[double bond, length as m-dash]N^tBu underwent C-H bond activation resulting in the formation of [C[triple bond, length as m-dash]N] containing derivatives, together with [PhCH[double bond, length as m-dash]NH^tBu]⁺.

Synthesis of 1,4-enamino ketones by [3,3]-rearrangements of dialkenylhydroxylamines

The synthesis of 1,4-enamino ketones has been achieved through the [3,3]-rearrangement of dialkenylhydroxylamines generated from the addition of N-alkenylnitrones to electron-deficient allenes. The mild conditions required for this reaction, and the simultaneous installation of a fluorenyl imine N-protecting group as a consequence of the rearrangement, avoid spontaneous cyclization of the 1,4-enamino ketones to form the corresponding pyrroles and allow for the isolation and controlled divergent functionalization of these reactive intermediates. The optimization, scope, and tolerance of the new method are discussed with demonstrations of the utility of the products for the synthesis of pyrroles, 1,4-diones, and furans.
