Abstract
The paper details an electrochemical method that couples olefins with benzotriazoles to form C(sp2)-N bonds, enabling the synthesis of N-vinyl benzotriazoles in moderate to good yields. nBu4NI functions as both an electrolyte and an iodine mediator, and the method does not require oxidants or metals. It is a highly atom-economical and clean reaction, with hydrogen as the sole byproduct.

Abstract
The photo-induced denitrogenative annulations of a variety of 1-alkenylbenzotriazoles were investigated. By judiciously manipulating the structural variations of 1-alkenylbenzotriazoles, two characteristic polycyclic skeletons associated with monoterpene indole alkaloids were constructed through a diverted and controllable manner. The present work not only enriches the photochemistry of 1-alkenylbenzotriazoles, but also offers a unified approach to access skeletally diverse indole alkaloid scaffolds.

Abstract
1,2,3-Benzotriazoles could undergo ring cleavage to form ortho-amino arenediazonium or α-diazo-imine species via a Dimroth-type equilibrium. Historically, the synthetic potential of this unique reactivity had remained underdeveloped. Recently, some new strategies have been developed to effect the ring-opening chemistry of benzotriazoles in more practical manners. A wide range of conceptually novel and synthetically useful reactions have been developed, which enable the access to diverse valuable heterocycles and ortho-amino arene derivatives. As one of the players in this field, our group has also contributed a series of intriguing transition-metal-catalyzed denitrogenative functionalizations of benzotriazoles. In this account, we aim to provide an overview of the ring-opening chemistry of benzotriazoles, with a focus on relevant works published in the past decade. In order to show a whole picture of the research field, some pioneering works in its developing history will also be discussed briefly.

Abstract
Unprecedented palladium-catalyzed denitrogenative Suzuki and carbonylative Suzuki coupling reactions of benzotriazoles with boronic acids have been realized, which afforded structurally diverse ortho-amino-substituted biaryl and biaryl ketone derivatives. The key to this success is due to the development of a rationally designed strategy to achieve the ring opening of benzotriazoles with a synergistic activating-stabilizing effect, which enables the in situ generation of the corresponding ortho-amino-arenediazonium species. The present work opens up a new avenue to utilize benzotriazoles as synthetic equivalents of ortho-amino-arenediazoniums, which otherwise could not be directly accessed by existing synthetic methods.

Abstract
A N1-selective alkenylation of 1-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles with alkynes via gold catalysis is reported. N1-Vinyl substituted 1,2,3-triazoles were selectively prepared in up to 92% yield through the sulfonyl group of 1,2,3-triazole derivatives transformed to alkenyl groups in a "one-pot two steps" manner. This method provided a new method for the synthesis of potentially biological-active vinyl-triazole building blocks.

Abstract
Irradiation of benzotriazoles 1a–e at λ = 254 nm in acetonitrile solution generated the corresponding 1,3-diradicals which underwent intermolecular cycloaddition with maleimides to afford the corresponding dihydropyrrolo[3,4-b]indoles and with acetylene derivatives to afford indoles as the major products. This offers an interesting and simple access to such ring systems of potential synthetic and biological interest. The structures of the photoproducts were established spectroscopically and by single crystal X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
A modular approach to N1-vinyl benzotriazoles by azide-aryne cycloadditions and Julia-Kocienski reactions is described. Reactions of azidomethyl phenyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl (PT) sulfide with arynes gave methyl(PT-sulfanyl)-substituted benzotriazoles in 68-89% yields. Oxidation of the sulfides to the sulfones gave the benzotriazole-substituted Julia-Kocienski reagents. Olefination reactions of aldehydes and a ketone with reagents derived from benzyne, 2,3-naphthyne, and 4,5-dimethoxybenzyne precursors proceeded to give various N1-vinyl benzotriazole derivatives. Olefination stereoselectivities are tunable for electron-rich aldehydes, but not for electron-deficient aldehydes and alkanals, where they proceed with good to excellent Z-stereoselectivity.

Abstract
An efficient and straightforward copper-catalyzed method allowing vinylation of N- or O-nucleophiles with di- or trisubstituted vinyl bromides is reported. The procedure is applicable to a broad range of substrates since N-vinylation of mono-, di-, and triazoles as well as O-vinylation of phenol derivatives can be performed with catalytic amounts of copper iodide and inexpensive nitrogen ligands 3 or 8. In the case of more hindered vinyl bromides, the use of the original bidentate chelator 8 was shown to be more efficient to promote the coupling reactions than our key tetradentate ligand 3. The corresponding N-(1-alkenyl)azoles and alkenyl aryl ethers are obtained in high yields and selectivities under very mild temperature conditions (35-110 degrees C for N-vinylation reactions and 50-80 degrees C for O-vinylation reactions). Moreover, to our knowledge, this method is the first example of a copper-catalyzed vinylation of various azoles. Finally, this protocol, practical on a laboratory scale and easily adaptable to an industrial scale, is very competitive compared to the existing methods that allow the synthesis of such compounds.

Abstract
We have developed a convenient two-step procedure for the synthesis of 3-ethoxycarbonyl indoles from commercially available materials. The two-step procedure involves the synthesis of 2-aryl-3-hydroxypropenoic acid ester, followed by a catalytic reduction. This method is efficient, simple, and selective.
