Abstract
Heterocycles functionalized with pentavalent phosphorus are of great importance since they include a great variety of biologically active compounds and pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, and valuable reactive intermediates for organic synthesis. Significant progress in synthesis of P(O)R2-substituted six-membered heterocycles has been made in the past decade. This review covers the synthetic strategies towards aromatic monocyclic six-membered N-heterocycles, such as pyridines, pyridazines, pyrimidines, and pyrazines bearing phosphonates and phosphine oxides, which were reported from 2012 to 2022.

Abstract
Protein histidine phosphorylation plays a crucial role in cell signaling and central metabolism. However, its detailed functions remain elusive due to technical challenges in detecting and isolating proteins bearing phosphohistidine (pHis), a labile posttranslational modification (PTM). To address this issue, we previously developed the first pHis-specific antibodies using stable, synthetic triazole-based pHis analogs. A second-generation, pyrazole-based pHis analog that enabled the development of a pan-pHis antibody with much improved pHis specificity is now reported.

Abstract
In the title compound, C(11)H(21)N(2)O(5)P, one of the two carbazate N atoms is involved in the C=N double bond and the H atom of the second N atom is engaged in an intramolecular hydrogen bond with an O atom from the dimethylphosphorin-2-yl group, which is in an uncommon cis position with respect to the carbamate group. The cohesion of the crystal structure is also reinforced by weak intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-311++g(2d,2p) level revealed the lowest energy structure to have a Z configuration at the C=N bond, which is consistent with the configuration found in the X-ray crystal structure, as well as a less stable E counterpart which lies 2.0 kcal mol(-1) higher in potential energy. Correlations between the experimental and computational studies are discussed.

Abstract
The changes in the physiochemical properties accompanying the substitution of a phosphonic acid group for a carboxylic acid group on various heterocyclic platforms was determined. A series of low molecular weight heterocyclic carboxylic and phosphonic acids was prepared, and the acid dissociation content (pKa) and log P values were measured potentiometrically. These values were compared to those of substituted benzene phosphonic acids, carboxylic acids, sulfonamides, and tetrazoles. The carboxylic acids included 3 pyrazoles, an imidazole, a triazole, 2 pyrimidines, and 6 aryl compounds. The phosphonic acids included a triazole, 2 pyrazoles, 4 pyrimidines, a thiophene, and 6 aryl compounds. Most of the compounds synthesized had adequate water solubility, although a simple methyl substituent in 2 series had a great effect, completely changing the properties. Log P values for the synthesized carboxylic and phosphonic acid compounds were below 2, and pK1 values for the heterocyclic phosphonic acids were generally 2 to 3 log units lower than for the heterocyclic carboxylic acids.

Abstract
The beta-hetero-substituted vinylphosphonates 1a-c on treatment with LDA or LTMP were readily lithiated at the alpha-position of the phosphono group, and the resulting alpha-lithiovinylphosphonates were trapped with various electrophiles to afford the corresponding alpha-functionalized vinylphosphonates 2-14 in 55-96% yields. The Friedel-Crafts reaction of alpha-(silyl)- or alpha-(germyl)phosphonoketene dithioacetals 2, 9, or 4 with acid chlorides gave alpha-acylated phosphonoketene dithioacetals 15-19 in 53-91% yields. The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of beta-ethoxy-alpha-(tributylstannyl)vinylphosphonate 13 with a variety of organic halides (R = acyl, allyl, aryl, etc.) provided beta-ethoxy-alpha-substituted vinylphosphonates 21-26 in good to moderate yields. The palladium-mediated cross-coupling reaction of alpha-(iodo)vinylphosphonates 7 and 14 with terminal acetylenes afforded alpha-alkynylated vinylphosphonates 41-44 in 69-83% yields. Several alpha-functionalized beta-hetero-substituted vinylphosphonates were applied to the synthesis of pyrazoles and an isoxazole possessing a phosphono function.
