Abstract
An in-depth understanding of reaction processes is beneficial to the development and quality control of chemical products. In this work, the mechanism and kinetics of the Paal-Knorr reaction for pyrrole derivatives are thoroughly studied using in-situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The hemiacetal amine intermediate, reactants, and products were identified and quantified by the treatment of real-time infrared spectra via chemometrics method and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCOS) technique. Based on the IR quantitative models, influences of operating conditions on reaction processes were investigated, and the reaction kinetic model was built with kinetic parameters of two rate-limiting reaction steps calculated. This approach of analysis on the in-situ FTIR data demonstrated the ability to extract useful information on reaction components, especially the intermediate spectrum, from the confounding real-time IR data. The in-situ FTIR monitoring combined with the IR analysis methods is proved as a powerful tool for revealing the reaction mechanism and kinetics.

Abstract
Water pollution by heavy metals has many human origins, such as the burning of fossil fuels, exhaust gases of vehicles, mining, agriculture, and incineration of solid and liquid wastes. Heavy metals also occur naturally, due to volcanoes, thermal springs activity, erosion, infiltration, etc. This water contamination is a threat for living beings because most heavy metals are toxic to humans and to aquatic life. Hence, it is important to find effective techniques for removing these contaminants in order to reduce the level of pollution of the natural waters. In this work, we have reviewed the toxicity of several heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium, chromium, nickel), their impact on the environment and human health, and the synthesis and characterization methods of conducting organic polymers (COPs) utilized for the removal of heavy metals from the environment. Therefore, this review was essentially aimed to present recent works and methods (2000-2020) on the environmental impact and toxicity of heavy metals and on the removal of toxic heavy metals, using chemically and/or electrochemically synthesized COPs. We have also stressed the great interest of COPs for the removal of toxic heavy metals from waters.

Abstract
A modular facile route has been developed to synthesize functionalized 2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1-H-arylpyrroles from readily available starting materials. These units are compatible with various polymerization conditions and are versatile building blocks for conjugated polymers. The polymers show high thermal stability and solubility in a number of solvents. Characterization of the polymers reveals a correlation between molecular packing, controllable by polymer design, and charge carrier mobility.

Abstract
Recently, increased attention has been focused on the synthesis of soluble and processable conducting polymers due to interest in their potential application. For this purpose a new type electroactive 2,5-di(2-thienyl)pyrrole derivative was synthesized and its novel solution-processable and fluorescent polymer, namely poly(N-(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-3,4,5-tris(dodecyloxy benzamide) (P(TPDOB)), was electrochemically synthesized.

Abstract
Detailed studies of the structure-property relationships for conductive polymers are important for the proper understanding of the impact of morphological details on chemical and physical properties. This understanding is necessary for the development of realistic theoretical models. The particular cases of thienyl pyrroles are described. Ab initio methods based on Hartree-Fock (HF) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations with the basis set of 6-31G(d) are performed to determine the molecular structural properties and to calculate FT-IR and NMR spectrum of the title molecule. Moreover, assignments of the vibrational modes are made on the basis of potential energy distribution (PED). Furthermore, the correlations between the observed and calculated frequencies are found to be in good agreement with each other as well as the correlation of the NMR data. A comparison of the experimental and theoretical calculations can be very useful in making correct assignment and understanding the properties and molecular structure relations.

Abstract
The condensation reaction of 2-amino-3-[(3-pyridylmethyl)amino]-2(Z)-butene-1,4-dinitrile with a series of diketones led to novel dinitriles, of which 2-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-3-[methyl(3-pyridylmethylene)amino]-2(Z)-butene-1,4-dinitrile, the product of the Paal-Knorr reaction, was successfully utilized in the Linstead macrocyclization towards symmetrical and unsymmetrical porphyrazines. NMR and X-ray study revealed an almost perpendicular orientation of the pyrrolyl groups in relation to the porphyrazine platform. The newly synthesized macrocycles with different peripheral groups show interesting spectroscopic and electrochemical properties. Due to selective sensor/coordination properties they are expected to find applications as chemical sensors and electronic materials.

Abstract
A highly sensitive and selective sensor for daunomycin was developed using phosphatidylserine (PS) and aptamer as bioreceptors. The PS and aptamer were co-immobilized onto gold nanoparticles modified/functionalized [2,2':5',2″-terthiophene-3'-(p-benzoic acid)] (polyTTBA) conducting polymer. Direct electrochemistry of daunomycin was used to fabricate a label free sensor that monitors current at -0.61 V. The formation of each layer was confirmed with XPS, SEM, and QCM. Response of the sensor was compared with and without PS in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. Interaction between the sensor probe and daunomycin was determined with DPV. The experimental parameters affecting sensor performance were optimized in terms of concentration of immobilized aptamer, PS:aptamer ratio, temperature, pH, and reaction times. The dynamic range for daunomycin analysis ranged between 0.1 and 60.0 nM with a detection limit of 52.3 ± 2.1 pM. Sensor was also examined for interference effect of other drugs. The present sensor exhibited long term stability and successfully detected daunomycin in a real human urine spiked with daunomycin.

Abstract
[structure: see text] New dicyanovinyl-substituted 1-(alkyl)aryl-2-(2'-thienyl)pyrroles 2 were synthesized and characterized. The solvatochromic behavior of the synthesized compounds was investigated. All the derivatives showed reversible oxidation and reduction on the CV time scale. The hyperpolarizabilities (beta) of compounds 2 were measured using hyper-Rayleigh scattering. The results are among the highest beta values reported for donor-acceptor-substituted thienylpyrroles.
