Abstract
This report illustrates the applications of Asymmetric Sharpless Aminohydroxylation (ASAH) in the stereoselective synthesis of vicinal amino alcohols as important intermediates in the total synthesis of complex molecules and natural products with significant biological activities. The ASHA allows the regio- syn-selective synthesis of 1,2-amino alcohols via reaction of alkenes with salts of N-halosulfonamides, -amides and -carbamates employing osmium tetroxide (OsO4) as an efficient catalyst. In this reaction, chirality is induced via the addition of dihydroquinine- and dihydroquinidine as derived chiral ligands.

Abstract
We developed a conceptually new synthetic strategy which exploits the stereochemical information of labile acyclic N,O-acetals. The key to this strategy, chemo- and stereoselective synthesis of N,O-acetals, was achieved by the Pd-catalyzed addition of sulfonyl-protected homopropargylic amines to alkoxyallene. The N,O-acetals generated in this way were combined with Au-catalyzed cycloisomerization to give an access to 2,6-disubstituted piperidines with stereochemical flexibility.

Abstract
Heterocyclic cage compounds have been stereoselectively synthesized from enantiopure [(S)R]-[(p-tolylsulfinyl)methyl]-p-quinols or their amine analogues and 2-(trimethylsilyloxy)furan in the presence of Bu4NF. The method is particularly valuable not only because of the stereochemical control but also because the reactions occur in an experimentally simple one-pot procedure through a domino sequence of three consecutive conjugate additions. The intermediate 1,4-adducts could be isolated when the reaction was carried out in the presence of BF3 x OEt2.

Abstract
Analogues of bicuculline devoid of the benzo ring fused to the lactone moiety were prepared by reacting 2-(tert-butyl-dimethylsiloxy)furans with 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinium salts. Some of these compounds (e.g., ROD185, 8) acted as modulators of the GABAA receptor, displacing ligands of the benzodiazepine binding site. They also strongly stimulated GABA currents mediated by recombinant GABA(A) receptors expressed in Xenopus oocytes.
