Preparation and ring-opening reactions of N-diphenylphosphinyl vinyl aziridines

Predominantly (E)-N-diphenylphosphinyl vinyl aziridines are prepared by a reaction of N-diphenylphosphinyl imines with α-bromoallyllithium in the presence of freshly fused ZnCl2. These aziridines undergo a ring-opening reaction with a variety of carbon and heteronucleophiles, in good yield, and generally with good regioselectivity.

Highly Stereoselective Prins Cyclization of (Z)- and (E)-γ-Brominated Homoallylic Alcohols to 2,4,5,6-Tetrasubstituted Tetrahydropyrans

Palladium Pincer Complex Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of Vinyl Epoxides and Aziridines with Organoboronic Acids

Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of vinyl epoxides and aziridines with organoboronic acids was performed by using 0.5-2.5 mol % pincer-complex catalyst. The reactions proceed under mild conditions affording allyl alcohols and amines with high regioselectivity and in good to excellent yields. Under the applied reaction conditions aromatic chloro-, bromo- and iodo substituents are tolerated. Our results indicate that the mechanism of the pincer complex catalyzed and the corresponding palladium(0) catalyzed process is substantially different. It was concluded that the transformations proceed via transmetalation of the organoboronic acids to the pincer-complex catalyst followed by an S(N)2'-type opening of the vinyl epoxide or aziridine substrate. In this process the palladium atom is kept in oxidation state +2 under the entire catalytic process, and therefore oxidative side reactions can be avoided.

beta-acylvinyl anion and dianion equivalents: lithiation of 1-[(2EZ)-3-chloroprop-2-enyl]-1H-1,2,3-benzotriazole: preparation and elaboration of 1-(2-oxiranylvinyl)-1H-benzotriazoles

The allyllithium generated from 1-[(2EZ)-3-chloroprop-2-enyl]-1H-1,2,3-benzotriazole (5) and LDA, in the presence of HMPA, reacts with enolizable and nonenolizable carbonyls solely at the CCl terminus to give 1-(2-oxiranylvinyl)benzotriazoles 6a-g in 61-82% yields. Allyllithiums generated from 6a,c reacted exclusively at the CBt terminus to give 10a-d in 68-88% yields. Acidic hydrolysis of (oxiranylvinyl)benzotriazoles 6a-g and 10a-d provided 4-hydroxyalk-2-en-1-one derivatives 12a,b,c,e,g, 13a-d, and furan 14 in 54-86% yields.

Lithiation of 1-chloromethylbenzotriazole: generation and elaboration of benzotriazolyloxiranes

1-Benzotriazolylchloromethyllithium generated from 1-chloromethylbenzotriazole (1) and LDA reacts with enolizable and nonenolizable ketones to give benzotriazolyloxiranes 2a-g in good yields. The oxiranyllithiums 4a-d generated from 2a-d and n-BuLi at -78 degrees C were trapped by a variety of electrophiles to give oxiranyl derivatives 5a-j in good to excellent yields. Lewis-acid-promoted nucleophilic ring opening of benzotriazolyloxiranes 2a,f,g with allyltrimethylsilane gave the corresponding 1,7-octadien-4-ols 6a-c in 68-75% yield. Hydrolysis of alpha-acylbenzotriazolyloxiranes 5g,h provided 3-hydroxy-1,2-diones 7a and 7b in 73 and 86% yield, respectively.

Diastereo- and Enantioselective Synthesis of syn-alpha-Vinylchlorohydrins and cis-Vinylepoxides

A new method to generate chiral syn-vinylchlorohydrins and cis-vinyloxiranes is reported. Reaction of (alpha-haloallyl)lithiums with methoxy-9-BBN or Ipc(2)BOMe followed by treatment with BF(3).OEt(2) leads to (Z)-(gamma-haloallyl)boranes which react with aldehydes to yield cis-vinylepoxides (de >/= 90%) upon oxidative workup. Alternatively, addition of ethanolamine to the allylboration product yields syn-alpha-halohydrins (de >/= 90%) that are also easily cyclized to cis-vinylepoxides. Extension of this protocol using [(Z)-gamma-chloroallyl]BIpc(2) leads to chiral syn-alpha-chlorohydrins and cis-vinylepoxides in high de (>/=90%) and ee (90-99%). Enantioselectivity of reactions of chiral (Z)-(gamma-chloroallyl)boranes with aldehydes are more sensitive to reaction conditions than enantioselectivity of reactions of other alpha-or gamma-substituted allylboranes. The effects of proportion of BF(3).OEt(2) and the relative efficacies of LiNR(2) bases on diastereo- and enantioselectivity of the chloroallylation are reported.
