[2,3]-Wittig rearrangement on carbohydrate template. Novel approach to chiral synthesis of 3-alkylmalic acids

p-Menthane-3-carboxaldehyde: a useful chiral auxiliary for the synthesis of chiral quaternary carbons of high enantiomeric purity

(+)- or (-)-p-Menthane-3-carboxaldehyde is made in two easy steps from (+)- or (-)-menthone, respectively. This auxiliary allows for the synthesis of carbonyl compounds bearing a alpha-chiral quaternary carbon. The flexibility, efficiency, and ease of use of the method are demonstrated in a series of examples, which include the total synthesis of (+)-cuparenone as well as a partial synthesis of (-)-cassiol.

Synthesis of analogues of myo-inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate that contain sulfonamide, sulfate, methylphosphonate, and carboxymethyl groups

The syntheses are described of four isosteric racemic myo-inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (1) analogues with the phosphate groups replaced by sulfonamide (2), sulfate (3), methylphosphonate (4), and carboxymethyl (5). None of these compounds had any affinity for the IP3 receptor or induced platelet aggregation.
