Abstract
Densely substituted dihydropyrroles could be synthesized with excellent diastereoselectivity via 5-exo-trig cascade radical cyclization to alkynyl vinylogous carbamates. N-Alkyl/acyl protected alkynyl vinylogous carbamates upon radical cyclization using thiophenol gave substituted pyrroles as against dihydropyrroles, which were formed with N-sulfonyl protecting groups. This enabled a rare example wherein both dihydropyrrole and pyrrole rings are assembled in the same reaction. This strategy could be used for the synthesis of an unprecedented adjacent polyheterocyclic system having a furan-thiophene-pyrrole motif. When vinylogous carbamate is embedded in the isoindole moiety, a pyridoisoindole derivative was formed with excellent diastereoselectivity, instead of the expected pyrroloisoindole product.

Abstract
We are developing the synthesis of biologically interesting carbazole compounds, including natural products by tandem cyclic reactions. In this report, we describe the new synthesis of carbazole-1,4-quinones as follows; 1) the synthesis of carbazole-1,4-quinones using a tandem ring closing metathesis (RCM) -dehydrogenation reaction, 2) a novel one-pot synthesis of carbazole-1,4-quinone by consecutive Pd-catalyzed cyclocarbonylation, desilylation, and oxidation reactions. Two new synthetic strategies were applied to the synthesis of carbazole-1,4-quinone alkaloids and ellipticine quinones, and then the antiproliferative activity against HCT-116 and HL-60 cells of the synthesized compounds were evaluated.

Abstract
The field of heterocyclic chemistry has been revolutionized using transition
metal catalysts in recent years. Various research groups have focused on the development
of general protocols to achieve better functional group compatibilities and greater levels of
molecular complexity under mild reaction conditions, using easily available starting substrates.
The methodologies used earlier for their synthesis were less approachable to organic
chemists because of their high cost, highly specified instrumentation and inconvenient
methods. For both stereoselective and regioselective synthesis of five-membered nitrogen-
containing heterocycles, cyclic reactions that are Ru-catalyzed have known to be
very efficient. These methods have many advantages as compared to alternative pathways
involved in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. In this review article, we concentrated
on the synthesis of nitrogen-containing five-membered heterocycles in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst.
This review mostly covers the literature published during the period from 1977-2019.

Abstract
Catalytic transformation of renewable feedstocks into fine chemicals is in high demands and olefin metathesis is a sophisticated tool for biomass conversion. Nevertheless, the large-scale viability of such processes depends on the conversion efficiency, energy efficiency, catalytic activity, selective conversion into desired products, and environmental footprint of the process. Therefore, conversions of renewables by using simple, swift, and efficient methods are desirable. A microwave-assisted ethenolysis and alkenolysis (using 1,5-hexadiene) of canola oil and methyl esters derived from canola oil (COME) and waste/recycled cooking oil (WOME) was carried out by using ruthenium-based catalytic systems. A systematic study using 1st and 2nd generation Grubbs and Hoveyda-Grubbs catalysts was carried out. Among all ruthenium catalysts, 2nd generation Hoveyda-Grubbs catalyst was found to be highly active in the range of 0.002-0.1 mol % loading. The conversions proved to be rapid providing unprecedented turnover frequencies (TOFs). High TOFs were achieved for ethenolysis of COME (21 450 min-1 ), direct ethenolysis of canola oil (19 110 min-1 ), for WOME (15 840 min-1 ) and for cross-metathesis of 1,5-hexadiene with COME (10 920 min-1 ). The ethenolysis of commercial methyl oleate was also performed with a TOF of 8000 min-1 under microwave conditions.

Abstract
A DFT computational mechanistic study of the ring closing metathesis (RCM) reaction of diallyl ether or N,N-diallyl-p-toluenesulfonamide catalyzed by a second generation Grubbs-type ruthenium carbene complex has been carried out. This study was performed at the PCM(CH2Cl2)-B3LYP/6-311+G(2d,p)//B3LYP/SDD theory level. The aim of this work was to shed light on the influence that microwave irradiation has on these reactions and to gain insight into the so-called 'molecular radiator' effect. The outcomes obtained indicate that thermal effects induced by microwave irradiation decrease the catalytic induction period. The presence of a polar reagent and/or polar species in the reaction that increases the polarity of the medium may enhance this thermal effect.

Abstract
The synthesis of N-aryl, N-tosyl, and N-alkyl pyrrolines from allyl alcohols and amines has been developed. The reaction sequence includes a palladium-catalyzed allylation step in which non-manipulated allyl alcohol is used to generate the diallylated amine in good to excellent yield. An excess of allyl alcohol was necessary for efficient diallylation of the amine, where the excess alcohol could be recycled three times. For aryl and tosyl amines, Pd[P(OPh)(3)](4) was used and for benzyl and alkyl amines a catalytic system comprising Pd(OAc)(2), P(n)Bu(3), and BEt(3) was used. Both the electronic properties and the steric influence of the amine affected the efficiency of the allylation. The isolated diallylated amines were transformed into their corresponding pyrrolines by ring-closing metathesis catalyzed by (H(2)IMes)(PCy(3))Cl(2)RuCHPh in good to excellent yield. A one-pot reaction was developed in which aniline was transformed into the corresponding pyrroline without isolating the diallylated intermediate. This one-pot reaction was successfully scaled-up to 1 mL of aniline in which the N-phenyl pyrroline was isolated in 95% yield. The versatility of the reaction in which 3-methyl-1-phenyl pyrroline was prepared in two-steps was demonstrated.

Abstract
The use of metathesis, especially in the context of ring-closing metathesis (RCM) to form five- and six-membered rings, is widespread in organic chemistry today. However, there are surprisingly few examples of the reaction being used to form aromatic compounds. The central place of aromatic compounds in both medicinal chemistry and natural products synthesis, coupled with the efficiency and functional group tolerance of RCM catalysts, means that there is now an interesting opportunity to use RCM for the synthesis of arenes. Although the formation of an aromatic compound was viewed in many early examples as an undesirable degradation product, several rationally designed methods towards the preparation of aromatic compounds by RCM have recently been developed.

Abstract
Two new 1-N-iminosugars have been prepared as hexofuranose analogues in an efficient manner by an RCM-based route. Both 3,4-disubstituted pyrrolidines display moderate inhibitory activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis galactan biosynthesis. [structure: see text]
