Abstract
A strategy allowing the straightforward synthesis of 1-C-phosphonomethyl and 1-C-phosphonodifluoromethyl iminosugars is reported. Conversion of sugar lactams to the corresponding imines with Schwartz's reagent followed by their reaction with LiCH2P(O)(OEt)2 and LiCF2P(O)(OEt)2 stereoselectively afforded the 1,2-cis and 1,2-trans glycosyl phosphonates, respectively, in modest to good yields. Application of this methodology to C-2 orthogonally protected sugar lactams paved the way to 2-acetamido- and 2-deoxy-1-C-phosphonomethyl iminosugars.

Abstract
Ozonolysis of 2-acetoxymethyl-1,5-anhydro-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-D-arabino-hex-1-enitol gave 1-O-acetyl-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-4-O-formyl-D-arabino-hex-2-ulose (5). Subsequent hydrolysis and acetylation of 5 provided 1,2-di-O-acetyl-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-D-fructofuranose 6 in excellent yield. This methodology allows specific deuteration at C-1 of a protected D-fructofuranose derivative. This approach therefore could serve as [6+1-1] formulation for hexose series inter-conversion, that is, aldohexopyranose to ketohexofuranose.

Abstract
A panel of octyl oligosaccharides comprised of arabinofuranose rings have been synthesized via efficient and readily scaleable routes. The key glycosylation reactions involved the coupling of octyl glycoside acceptors with the appropriate thioglycosides using N-iodosuccinimide and silver triflate activation. These syntheses were undertaken to provide substrates suitable for use in assays of mycobacterial arabinosyltransferases.

Abstract
The synthesis of a panel of arabinofuranosyl oligosaccharide analogues (5-13) in which one ring is locked into either the E(3) or OE conformation is described. The E(3)-locked scaffolds 15 and 16 required for the synthesis of 5-10 were prepared in one step from known 1,5-anhydroalditols. A number of routes were explored for the preparation of the OE-locked monosaccharide derivative 17 needed for the preparation of 11-13. The successful synthesis of 17 was achieved in 17 steps from D-arabinose. Subsequent analysis of 5-13 by 1H NMR spectroscopy demonstrated that the locked residue does not exert any detectable influence upon the conformers populated by adjacent conformationally unrestricted furanose rings.

Abstract
The synthesis of 11 oligosaccharides (4-14) containing beta-arabinofuranosyl residues is reported. The glycans are all fragments of two polysaccharides, arabinogalactan and lipoarabinomannan, which are found in the cell wall complex of mycobacteria. In the preparation of the targets, the key step was a low-temperature glycosylation reaction that installed the beta-arabinofuranosyl residues with good to excellent stereocontrol.

Abstract
Polysaccharides containing galactofuranosyl and arabinofuranosyl residues are key components of many microorganisms. Recent investigations have provided a greater understanding of the biosynthetic pathways by which these glycans are assembled. Concomitant with these biochemical studies, an increasing number of chemical syntheses of oligofuranosides have been reported and new methods for their assembly have been developed.

Abstract
The search for carbohydrate mimetics-based glycosyltransferase inhibitors is a dynamic field that emerged 10 years ago. This review presents a description of the different types of glycosyltransferase inhibitors containing a carbohydrate mimetic (primarily an iminosugar, a carbasugar or a C-glycoside) and data on their biological activity whenever such data are available. The purpose of this account is to foster a synergy between the two expanding research areas of glycomimetics and glycosyltransferases.
