Abstract
A document investigation on the fungus Trichoderma virens led to the isolation of thirteen undescribed carotane sesquiterpenes and homologous. All structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR and HRESIMS data, and their absolute configurations were assigned by ECD calculation. Especially, virenscarotins A and B were first ramifications forged by aldol condensation of 4-hydroxy-3-isopentenyl-benzaldehyde with two hydroxyl groups in ring A of traditional carotane sesquiterpenes. Ring rearrangement/expansion and oxidative cleavage of normal carotane sesquiterpenes lead to the six-membered ring A of compound virenscarotin C and the ring A cleavage of compound virenscarotin D. All compounds were evaluated for cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and seed germination inhibitory activities.

Abstract
The first asymmetric total synthesis of the highly strained compound cerorubenic acid-III is reported. A type II intramolecular [5 + 2] cycloaddition allowed efficient and diastereoselective construction of the synthetically challenging bicyclo[4.4.1] ring system with a strained bridgehead (anti-Bredt) double bond in the final product. A unique transannular cyclization installed the vinylcyclopropane moiety with retention of the desired stereochemistry.

Abstract
A highly diastereoselective cascade cyclization reaction has been developed for establishing a series of oxatricyclic compounds using Chan's diene and simple keto alkynal substrates with only 1 mol % of In(OTf)3 as the catalyst in 82-92% yields. The potential utility of this synthetic strategy has been demonstrated in model studies for the construction the core structures of 1α,8α:4α,5α-diepoxy-4,5-dihydroosmitopsin and cortistatin A.

Abstract
The first and asymmetric total synthesis of cyclocitrinol, an unusual C25 steroid, has been accomplished in a linear sequence of 18 steps from commercially available compound 11. The synthetically challenging bicyclo[4.4.1] A/B ring system with a strained bridgehead (anti-Bredt) double bond of cyclocitrinol was constructed efficiently and diastereoselectively via a type II intramolecular [5 + 2] cycloaddition.

Abstract
Highly substituted carbocyclic seven-membered rings are frequently found in natural products and their synthesis represents a significant challenge to the synthetic chemist. Direct intramolecular cyclization of these systems often proves difficult and this fact has catalyzed the development of a variety of strategies based on a convergent intermolecular cycloaddition strategy. This concept article discusses the major cycloaddition approaches utilized to access these types of structures and primarily focuses on examples employed in the synthesis of natural products.

Abstract
Oxyallyl cations generated in situ from dihaloketones have been found to undergo the Favorskii rearrangement in preference to an intramolecular Type-II 4 + 3 cycloaddition reaction in trifluoroethanol and hexafluoropropan-2-ol solvents, generating acrylate esters with high cis selectivity. A synthetic alternative to the intramolecular Type-II 4 + 3 cycloaddition has been developed on the basis of intramolecular enolate alkylation to close a 7-membered ring with an exocyclic double bond.
