Role of Robotics in Neuromodulator and Filler Injections of Face

In recent years, robots have been increasingly used in various fields of medicine, including surgery, dentistry, and ophthalmology. One of the newest and most promising applications of robotic technology in medicine is in the field of facial aesthetics, particularly in the injection of facial fillers and neuromodulators. While facial injections have traditionally been performed manually by trained physicians and nurses, the introduction of robots has the potential to revolutionize the field, offering a range of potential benefits, including increased precision, accuracy, and consistency of results. However, the significant disadvantages of robots are high cost, lack of flexibility and personal touch, limited experience, and risk of injury due to malfunction.

Novel surgical techniques, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering and innovative immunosuppression in kidney transplantation

On the 60th anniversary of the first successfully performed renal transplantation, we summarize the historical, current and potential future status of kidney transplantation. We discuss three different aspects with a potential significant influence on kidney transplantation progress: the development of surgical techniques, the influence of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, and changes in immunosuppression. We evaluate the standard open surgical procedures with modern techniques and compare them to less invasive videoscopic as well as robotic techniques. The role of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine as a potential method for future kidney regeneration or replacement and the interesting search for novel solutions in the field of immunosuppression will be discussed. After 60 years since the first successfully performed kidney transplantation, we can conclude that the greatest achievements are associated with the development of surgical techniques and with planned systemic immunosuppression.

A new telesurgical platform--preliminary clinical results

A new European telesurgical system, the Telelap Alf-x, is introduced. Its main features are individual arms, which enable free access to the patient throughout surgery, a large range of reusable surgical instruments, an open console with eye-tracking system, where the camera follows the eye and head movements of the surgeon, and the existing force feedback enables for the first time to feel the consistency of the tissues and avoid tearing of the stitches while suturing. The system combines the benefits of open surgery and endoscopy. The first clinical application, which involved 146 operations at the gynecological department of the Gemelli University Hospital in Rome, proved the safety and the surgical team's quick adaptation to the system.

The evolution of robotic thyroidectomy: from inception to neck dissection

Over the past decade, the application of surgical robotics is bringing about dramatic changes in various surgical fields. Robotic thyroidectomy has achieved safe and accurate management of thyroid disease with remarkable cosmetic and functional benefits. As experiences with robotic techniques accumulate, its indications will expand to include more advanced cases with higher levels of difficulty.
