Abstract
Two new tetra-Cd(II)-substituted vanadogermanate frameworks {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)[V(III)(H2O)2]4(GeO2)4}·8H2O (X = ethylenediamine (en, 1) and 1,2-diaminopropane (dap, 2)) were hydrothermally prepared and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Both are isomorphic, and their 3-D frameworks are made up of tetra-Cd(II)-substituted {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)}(12-) fundamental building units interconnected through planar tetra-V(III) [V(III)4O2(H2O)8](8-) clusters and tetrahedral GeO4 bridges. In the unique {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)}(12-) cage, four [Ge2O7] dimers and four CdO4N2 trigonal prisms are alternately concatenated by μ3-O bridges to create a round {Ge8Cd4O28(X)4}(16-) fragment, five VO5 groups are linked by sharing edges to generate a pentanuclear [V5O17] subunit, and then the {Ge8Cd4O28(X)4}(16-) fragment is sandwiched by two V5O17 subunits via sharing O-atoms producing a D4h-symmetric {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)}(12-) cage with a free water molecule located at the center. As we know, both display unprecedented 3-D organic-inorganic hybrid frameworks built up from the largest number of transition-metal-substituted vanadogermanate {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46}(12-) cluster shells linked by both GeO4 tetrahedra and rare [V(III)4O2(H2O)8](8-) clusters. Magnetic measurements reveal the antiferromagnetic couplings within the magnetic vanadium centers.

Abstract
Three different zirconium thio and oxothio clusters, characterized by different coordination modes of dithioacetate and/or monothioacetate ligands, were obtained by the reaction of monothioacetic acid with zirconium n-butoxide, Zr(O(n)Bu)4, in different experimental conditions. In particular, we isolated the three polynuclear Zr3(μ3-SSSCCH3)2(SSCCH3)6·2(n)BuOH (Zr3), Zr4(μ3-O)2(μ-η(1)-SOCCH3)2(SOCCH3)8(O(n)Bu)2 (Zr4), and Zr6(μ3-O)5(μ-SOCCH3)2(μ-OOCCH3)(SOCCH3)11((n)BuOH) (Zr6) derivatives, presenting some peculiar characteristics. Zr6 has an unusual star-shaped structure. Only sulfur-based ligands, viz., chelating dithioacetate monoanions and an unusual ethane-1,1,1-trithiolate group μ3 coordinating the Zr ions, were observed in the case of Zr3. 1D and 2D NMR analyses confirmed the presence of differently coordinated ligands. Raman spectroscopy was further used to characterize the new polynuclear complexes. Time-resolved extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements, devoted to unraveling the cluster formation mechanisms, evidenced a fast coordination of sulfur ligands and subsequent relatively rapid rearrangements.

Abstract
Reaction of VO(acac)(2) with 2-mercaptophenol (mpH(2)) in the presence of triethylamine gives the mononuclear tris complex (Et(3)NH)(2)[V(mp)(3)] (1), in which the vanadyl oxygen has been displaced. An analogous reaction using 2-mercapto-4-methylphenol (mmpH(2)) afforded (Et(3)NH)(PNP)[V(mmp)(3)] (2), which was structurally characterized. 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pna2(1 )with unit cell parameters (at -163 degrees C) a = 23.974(7) Å, b = 9.569(4) Å, c = 25.101(6) Å, and Z = 4. The coordination geometry around the vanadium is between octahedral and trigonal prismatic. Reaction of VO(acac)(2 )with the sodium salt of 2-mercaptophenol produces the vanadyl(IV) complex Na(Ph(4)P)[VO(mp)(2)].Et(2)O (3), which crystallizes in the triclinic space group P&onemacr; with unit cell parameters (at -135 degrees C) a = 12.185(4) Å, b = 12.658(4) Å, c = 14.244(4) Å, alpha = 103.19(2) degrees, beta = 100.84(2) degrees, and gamma = 114.17(2) degrees. The unit cell of 3 contains a pair of symmetry-related [VO(mp)(2)](2)(-) units bridged through vanadyl and ligand oxygen atoms by a pair of sodium ions, in addition to two PPh(4)(+) ions. The coordination geometry around the vanadium is square pyramidal, with a V=O bond length of 1.611(5) Å. 1, 2, and 3 are characterized by IR and UV-vis spectroscopies, magnetic susceptibility, EPR spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. 1 and 2 can be oxidized by I(2, )Cp(2)Fe(+), or O(2) to [V(mp)(3)](-) and [V(mmp)(3)](-), respectively, which in turn can be reduced back to the dianions by oxalate ion. These reversible redox processes can be followed by UV-vis spectroscopy.
