Abstract
The reaction of SrBr2 with 2 equiv of sodium N,N-dimethylaminodiboranate (DMADB; Na(H3BNMe2BH3)) in Et2O at 0 °C followed by crystallization and drying under vacuum gives the unsolvated strontium compound Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)2 (1). Before the vacuum-drying step, the colorless crystals obtained by crystallization consist of the diethyl ether adduct Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)2(Et2O)2 (2). If the reaction of SrBr2 with 2 equiv of Na(H3BNMe2BH3) is carried out in the more strongly coordinating solvent thf, the solvate Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)2(thf)3 (3) is obtained. Treating the thf adduct 3 with 1,2-dimethoxyethane (dme), bis(2-methoxyethyl) ether (diglyme), or N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (tmeda) in thf affords the new compounds Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)2(dme)2 (4), Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)2(diglyme) (5), and Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)2(tmeda) (6), respectively, in greater than 60% yields. Treatment of 3 with 2 equiv of the crown ether 12-crown-4 affords the charge-separated salt [Sr(H3BNMe2BH3)(12-crown-4)2][H3BNMe2BH3] (7). Crystal structures of all the Lewis base adducts are described. Compounds 2-6 all possess chelating κ2-BH3NMe2BH3-κ2 groups, in which two hydrogen atoms on each boron center are bound to strontium. Compound 6 is dinuclear because each metal atom is also coordinated to one hydrogen atom on a BH3NMe2BH3- ligand that chelates to the neighboring metal center. Compound 7 possesses an unusual κ1-BH3NMe2BH3- group owing to the near-complete encapsulation of the Sr atom by two 12-crown-4 molecules; the other BH3NMe2BH3- anion is a charge-separated counterion. When they are heated, the diglyme and tmeda compounds 5 and 6 melt without decomposition and can be sublimed readily under reduced pressure (1 Torr) at 120 °C. The diglyme and tmeda adducts are some of the most volatile strontium compounds known and are promising candidates as CVD precursors for the growth of strontium-containing thin films.

Abstract
Sustainability is an increasingly important topic in the design and manufacture of materials, with the need to reduce the environmental impact of producing materials being of paramount significance. A competing interest to this is the ability to produce functional materials in large volumes from a fast, on-line process, which can be integrated easily into existing industrial setups. Herein, we present aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition (AACVD) routes to advanced functional materials. We will show that by careful design of precursors and manipulation of deposition conditions, it is possible to achieve high sustainability whilst maintaining fast growth rates and large scale production of thin film functional materials.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a family of beta-ketoimines derived from 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedione (hfa) and the corresponding volatile barium beta-ketoiminate-polyether complexes having the general formula Ba[CF(3)COCHC(NR)CF(3)](2) where R = (CH(2)CH(2)O)(2)CH(3), (CH(2)CH(2)O)(2)CH(2)CH(3), and (CH(2)CH(2)O)(3)CH(2)CH(3) is reported. These complexes can be transported in the vapor phase at 160 degrees C/0.05 Torr without decomposition. The beta-ketoiminate ligands are synthesized by condensation of the appropriate amine-terminated poly(ethylene oxide)s with the trimethylsilyl enol ether derivative of hfa and converted to barium beta-ketoiminate-polyether complexes by reaction with BaH(2). The poly(ethylene oxide) amines are in turn synthesized by triphenylphosphine-mediated reduction of the corresponding poly(ethylene oxide) azides (synthesized via the tosylates) to afford the amines in good yields and analytical purity. The amines, beta-ketoimines, and barium complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, (1)H, (19)F, and (13)C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The eight- and ten-coordinate Ba(2+) complexes having the formula Ba[CF(3)COCHC(NR)CF(3)](2) where R = (CH(2)CH(2)O)(2)CH(2)CH(3) [C(22)H(28)N(2)F(12)O(6)Ba; space group = monoclinic, P2(1); a = 12.1175(2) Å, b = 14.9238(2) Å, c = 16.9767(3) Å, alpha = gamma = 90 degrees, beta = 90.0840(10) degrees, Z = 4] and R = (CH(2)CH(2)O)(3)CH(2)CH(3) [C(26)H(36)N(2)F(12)O(8)Ba; space group = triclinic, P&onemacr; (#2); a = 10.971(2) Å, b = 12.134(2) Å, c = 15.280(4) Å, alpha = 89.94(2) degrees, beta = 110.00(2) degrees, gamma = 116.75(2) degrees, Z = 2] were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both analyses reveal monomeric structures with the beta-ketoiminate ligands coordinated to the Ba(2+) center through all available oxygen and nitrogen atoms. These complexes are substantially more volatile than Ba(2,2,6,6,-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate)(2) but less so than the most volatile Ba(1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionate)(2).polyether complexes.

Abstract
The synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of new polyether adducts of strontium and barium carboxylates of general composition M(O(2)CCF(3))(n)()(L) (M = Ba, L = 15-crown-5, (1); M = Ba (2), Sr (3), respectively, with L = tetraglyme are reported. The compounds were synthesized by reaction of BaCO(3) or MH(2) (M = Sr or Ba) with organic acids in the presence of the polyether ligands. These compounds have been characterized by IR and (13)C and (1)H NMR spectroscopies, elemental analyses, and thermogravimetric analysis. The species Ba(2)(O(2)CCF(3))(4)(15-crown-5)(2) (1) and [Ba(2)(O(2)CCF(3))(4)(tetraglyme)](infinity) (2), were also characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Ba(2)(O(2)CCF(3))(4)(15-crown-5)(2) (1) crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Cccm with cell dimensions of a = 13.949(1) Å, b = 19.376(2) Å, c = 16.029(1) Å, and Z = 8. [Ba(2)(O(2)CCF(3))(4)(tetraglyme)](infinity) (2) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with cell dimensions of a = 12.8673(12) Å, b = 16.6981(13) Å, c = 15.1191(12) Å, beta = 99.049(8) degrees, and Z = 4. Compounds 1-3 thermally decompose at high temperatures in the solid state to give MF(2). However, solutions of compounds 1-3 dissolved in ethanol with Ti(O-i-Pr)(4) give crystalline perovskite phase MTiO(3) films, or in the case of mixtures of 2 and 3, Ba(1)(-)(x)()Sr(x)()TiO(3) films below 600 degrees C when spin coated onto silicon substrates and thermally treated. The crystallinity, purity, and elemental composition of the films was determined by glancing angle X-ray diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy.
